How To Bleed A Dual Disc Brake Caliper - Automotive Mechanic Tech Tips - DIY
#diy #car #howto #usa
Here's a quick lesson on how to bleed dual disc brake calipers. Most people don't know how to do this the proper way and it's an easy automotive mechanic trick everyone should know when doing an overall brake job to their car or truck. 4 wheel disc brake conversions are easy if you know how to do it, follow this educational learning video on how to do it right and DO IT YOURSELF to be safe on the roads.

How does a dual piston brake caliper work?
2-piston calipers use two brake pads and two pistons, one of each on either side of the disc. This gives you slightly better initial bite and brake feel, since both pads come into contact with the disc at the same time. This also means that both pads wear more evenly.
Multi-piston calipers offer a much greater braking performance than single. One reason we touched on previously, as they can have a larger caliper and larger brake pad to accept more heat before failing.

Great explanation Pete! Datsun / Nissan had dual pistons calipers in the 60's on box frame convertible's and others. Large airplane's use more pistons than 4 outboard and inboard for a total of 8. But we are working on classic American iron with updated parts. Thanks again Minnie and Pete. My wife worked the pedal hundreds of times!

Dear Pete, The Calipers Are On Back Words The Bleeder Screw Is Supposed To Be Up top, To Release Air From The Hydraulic Brake System, Trust Me, From Toronto Ontario Canada,, I Watch You Guys All The Time,

I think it is possible for these calipers since they are aftermarket. This allows them to be mounted the leading or trailing position. With the hose mount positioned near the middle and a bleeder screw on both ends gives these more applications to bolt onto. The Air Force guys had me working on vehicles they brought back for Italy, Greece, Hungarian and other places around Europe. There is some crazy stuff out there and brakes was the number one repair followed by A/F adjustment due to altitude change, then valve adjustment.

I’ve never seen someone fill brake fluid through the caliper that’s cool

I worked in a brake shop 20 odd years many ways to do the same job. And no one died from brake failure I did. Im not saying this method is good or bad but seems a bit awkward. But what ever floats your boat.

Interesting, all of the 4 piston Brembo or Wilwood calipers I’ve ever had only have bleeder on either side at the top. There are provisions for bottom bleeders but there are just bolts in its place. It was always my understanding that you never wanted a bleeder on the bottom because you can get trapped air but I guess if you’re power bleeding then it’s not an issue.

I just pressure bleed from the top or vaccum bleed I have both and no helper is needed... All fluid runs in to a container no mess...and if your running a booster alway check brakes under vaccum with engine running. And in the case of hydro brakes make sure there is power assist to the braking system.... There is 50 ways to bleed a car lol 😆
