This is awesome to see another in NC making good water! This bucket is awesome btw. I need to know where you get your charcoal
@TheShineshack

Yeah it works great I just ordered a ball valve to put on it with a bulk head but I make my own American white oak charcoal drill a small hole in the lid of a metal popcorn tin like a 16-in hole. Put about 3-in pieces of American white oak in the 10. Put the lid on it. Build a good fire. Sit the tin in the fire until you no longer see smoke. Coming out the hole in the lid. Let it cool then open and you got lump charcoal

I’m still waiting on that Ohio blue corn sour lactose fermented batch with the main Grove jacks cider yeast. I’m excited to hear how fruity and accessory that comes out. I just started a fresh batch of rum with 100% molasses from tractor supply that’s used as a deer attractive. It’s the cheapest molasses you can find on the market. A dose of my rum muck waited 24 hours and then pitched Nottingham ale yeast. I’m ready for some fruity Jamaican rum.

Actually I buy my molasses from the local feed mill. I paid like 6 dollars for 5 gal
@StillFunBrewing
@StillFunBrewing 3 месяца назад
@@tomchristensen2914 wish I could find that. Our feed store doesn’t have molasses, just sweet feed or the solid looking molasses blocks.

Same in my area I buy the deer molasses to put on my mineral licks when hunting 😜 never thought about using it for rum you can't find bulk mallases in my area only online but it turned out really good I will have the video uploaded soon I put it straight in a Badmo barrel all the grains carried over nicely with a good 4th generation sour mash flavor with almost a sweet brandy note on the back definitely will keep making the Blue Oat Whiskey I'm sure you will love it as well the MGJ M02 yeast does take a little longer to ferment off but it's worth it it adds a fruity character a lot of people can't tell the difference, but if your pallet's trained right, you can taste the difference every time. It's really good on a brandy This was my first time using it on a grain Mash and it was pretty good but it definitely stands out on a brand new over EC 1118

@@TheShineshack I keep an eighty oz jar filled with light brown sugar, yeast nutrient with an aquarium bubbler and an air check valve to vent pressure. I just remove half the liquid each week and replace with sugary nutrient water. The removed liquid is placed in the fridge to settle and collect the yeast. So I can pitch cold yeast or take off the top of my yeast propagating jar any time I want to pitch yeast. I’m cultivating Nottingham ale yeast. It has one of the widest temp ranges in yeasts and can be used for many styles. But I may have to start a perpetual jar of the mangrove jacks. Thanks for the update. You’re the best.

I'm good, thanks for asking. Just had a career change and I'm super busy soon I'll be getting weekends off and that'll really change things. I'm actually filming a video today running sweet corn. I know I'm a little behind but I will not give up on the channel. I definitely plan on coming back with a vengeance and posting content every week. It's just been real slow cuz I've been working upward just 70 hours a week and then with the family I ain't had time to do much of nothing but that's all about to change 😁

Hey Red. Could you use still flavoured mineral water ? this would proof down your spirit and add flavour as well.
@TheShineshack
@TheShineshack 2 месяца назад
I'm sure you could I would try a small sample first to make sure it doesn't cloud up sometimes if there's a lot of minerals in the water it'll cloud up but just do it on a very small scale and if everything works out good you can up it to a large scale

Old timers never needed anything other than a glass bottles to give you the best liquor you will ever drink, This guy here is over thinking the whole process of making liquor, Really folks you don't need any special equipment in making shine .
@soyourwifewantsyouto
@soyourwifewantsyouto 3 месяца назад
The old timers got taught by someone... Likely their daddy or grand daddy. Folks nowadays don't have that lineage or wisdom being passed down. So I respectfully disagree. Red is imparting his wisdom to those who don't know. And doing it in an electronic format instead of in person. So he needs to be more articulate.

I don't over think anything 😂 I always use simple techniques but there is things you can do to improve your likker but you absolutely can just toss water in and let it go but most people like to master the craft and make the best product possible
