Sharing what I know to help others hypothetically make moonshine , build stills and make a mash all while under a budget "simple is best " you don't need fancy stuff just common sense and a little equipment..Shine On
This channel is for informational and entertainment purposes only no illegal activity is actually taking place the stills are for distilled water and essential oils Only Making moonshine is illegal in most states and is illegal federally I do not condone illegal activity Also distilling can be very dangerous resulting in injury or death if you choose to distill you assume all risk

FIJI is not a good water for cutting shine. It has additives. will have a blue layer in the bottom by the morning. That fact you even said that makes me wonder.....
Great Video!, I have never run this still setup but I do have the still spirits t500. Id love to move into a copper pot still but have no idea where to start. any suggestions or help would be appreciated. I would prefer to stay with electric also. thanks in advanced
On outer perimeter of the white grinding disc. There will be three little silver studs on the outside edge of the stone and on the outside grinder of the door. They'll be three little rubber fittings. You pop them out and you take the studs off.with a Allen They clamp in the grinding Stone then the other side just spins off You add the other ones and you put them little silver pins back in the same way and they clamp it in. Always tighten them evenly. Do one turn then go to the next one. Another turn until they are all tight
You said, “clean out the still once a month” my question is how many runs is that in a month? Is that irrelevant? Is time the only denominator? Thanks for posting your videos.
That's just a general rule I have if I don't run my still any for a month or more I will do a quick citric acid cleaning run nothing to invasive to take away the seasoning but copper stills can get pretty nasty if left sitting for awhile also have the chance of copper salts forming as well But as long as you're doing runs I just rinse it out with water after each run That's the same thing I do. You don't want to harm that seasoning unless you have to
Fill your pot about 85% full always leave atleast 15% for head space run it till you pull all the available alcohol off then Stop it you can do stripping runs also if you like doing that better that allows you to do a multiple distilled product produces a cleaner product
I haven't tried it on a brandy yet but I know fruit is different it clogs up my strainer bad I always do a very chunky coarse grind with grain and with fruit I want it like apple sauce when possible I would imagine it might clog up with fruit I need to test it out I'm doing a peach brandy soon as it starts to cool down outside some
@@RK_Kong69 No problem anytime that's the way to do it ask as many questions as you can and soak it all up Do you ever have any questions? Feel free to ask. I don't mind at all. You can also reach me directly if you go to redshineshack.com you can contact me from there also....Shine On
I prefer spring water or purified water I feel like it adds a better flavor to the final product with the minerals that are in the water that distilled water doesn't have but always do a small test with your water you plan to use to make sure it doesn't cloud up to much minerals will make you Spirit cloudy I use my spring water and Walmart brand bottled water works well also
Really like your videos, full of good information and instructions are great and it flows. You get to the point. Question: Why do you add the rye at that of a temp and have you tried adding it once the temp has dropped to like 165? I would think it would denature the rye.
I appreciate your support I try to leave out the nonsense 😂 But yes that's called step mashing I will do that also if I'm not using exogenis enzymes but in this mash I using enzymes already so it was easier to just toss all the grains in at one time there wasn't enough enzymes in the amount of malt I was using to convert everything but if your using enough malt than absolutely do a step mash and let it cool down before adding your malted grains in....Shine On
Great job Red, thank you.. being In NY I'm limited to the corn I get but appreciate your wisdom.. looking forward to the sweetcorn recipe!!! I got a shit ton of that!! God Bless man.. be safe...
I’ve got a question so..I got myself a set up identical to this the only thing different is the brand. I didn’t get vevor I ended up getting a “vivo home” 8 gal 3 pot set up pretty much identical to what you got there. That being said how could I check for leaks in the lines before I did a run? I’m weary of running it over a burner like you did without knowing if the lines leak vapors or not. How could I check this?
Just fill the pot full of water like you would a mash and run your steel like you would. If you're doing alcohol run and just look and see if you see steam coming out of anywhere when you do an actual run, you won't see stain alcohol vapors clear. You have to use a mirror to check for leaks if you're doing an alcohol run but run it good and hard with just water in it and if you have a leak you'll see the steam or you'll see water and condensation on your lines
I usually try to show it every few videos, but I have a hose that comes from my spring box that feeds in the bottom of my worm. Then the hot water comes out of the top of my worm through a hose and a hole I have in the floor straight on the ground. I don't recirculate water. My spring water stays about 55° year-round
Boy Howdy is it hot outside. This is my time of the year I take a 2 month break. Around Sept. I will have a freezer full of figs and can go back at it. Nice video, love that blue corn.
Yeah I been thinking about that doing stuff for the channel I can do inside in the A/C it is so nice in the winter time I love it I mainly do all my brandies in the winter cuz I like a good cool slower fermentation
@@TheShineshack Right on. I feel the same. Turning on the gas burner is really hard when it's 110 outside. The AC in my shine shack has a hard time. But this year I put 7 gallons up to play with.Kept it all.
Heck yeah it does The Shine Shack is a 10×12 all metal building and it gets super hot while heating up once I start running and can cut the fire way down low, it's not bad at all in the winter time. It's perfect but while I'm heating up it gets above 115°F I don't turn my AC on till after I've heated up and started running It's gotten so hot before I put an exhaust fan in. I melted my light off the ceiling 😂 That's why I built a shine Shack. It's used for nothing but all of my distilling gear because of the heat 😆
Thanks that's great I really enjoy helping people learn the craft but after every run I rinse it out with water that's all as long as I don't see any green or blue inside my still I don't run cleaning runs with vinegar or citric acid If you do see a greenish blue stuff that's copper salts and it can be dangerous, but you don't have to do a deep cleaning all the time. I usually run at least once every 15 days now. If my still sits for like a month I'll do a cleaning run, but as long as you run at least once or twice a month, you don't have to worry about doing a clean and run unless you see copper salts in it
Hey y'all so a portion of this video was accidentally filmed in fast format I slowed it down as much as possible I didn't know at the time of filming....Shine On
Awesome I love me some muscadine wine it makes a fine brandy also but as with any brandy you get a slight hint of the fruit flavor but it's wonderful super sweet tasting to me the more infusion you do the more flavor you will have in the end some people expect it to taste like fruit juice but that's impossible without post flavoring But definitely try it out. It makes a fine. Brandy
I'm good, thanks for asking. Just had a career change and I'm super busy soon I'll be getting weekends off and that'll really change things. I'm actually filming a video today running sweet corn. I know I'm a little behind but I will not give up on the channel. I definitely plan on coming back with a vengeance and posting content every week. It's just been real slow cuz I've been working upward just 70 hours a week and then with the family I ain't had time to do much of nothing but that's all about to change 😁
Awesome it's definitely a great still for the money and awesome to learn the trade on copper stills are a huge investment for someone who is just starting out we all at some point had a vevor still hell I still have 3 😂 they make some fine Likker..... Shine On
I have been slacking the past month I have been extremely busy at work and home life I'm filming today and I'm hoping to edit the part 2 tonight hopefully I'm sorry for the lack of content I've been super busy at work with my new career change. I'm expecting to get weekends off soon and that'll change everything. I appreciate all you guys support and I definitely ain't giving up on the channel soon. I'll be back to posting the video every week. Hope to see some of y'all at Maggie valley Hillbilly jam also.....Shine On
For the vevor still I just put the hose pipe from my spring box into a 5 gallon bucket then pumped it to the worm on my Big copper pot I just hooked the hose pipe for my spring straight to the worm. I don't recirculate. I found it better just to let the water hit the ground. I generally only waste about 50 gallons during a run I got tired of buying so much ice 😂 But when I did recirculate and use ice I had a 55 gallon drum. I cut in half so about 35 gallons and I'd fill it up every run and add ice
I'm hoping to get it up this weekend I apologize 😔 I have been super busy I had a complete career change now I'm in the auto mechanic industry and work long hours very soon I will get weekends off And I will be able to get back on track posting one video a week. I apologize for the inconvenience. I know I haven't posted anything in a while but there is more coming. I am not giving up on the channel or you guys nor will I ever...Shine On
I don't like the flavor change that happens when you cook your fruit It's just a personal preference. When you cook your fruit, you get a cooked fruit taste when you don't cook it. You get a more fresh fruit taste in my opinion. You can do it either way, whichever way you like. Best, there's no right or wrong way
Wow! That was a great review! You covered all that was needed and got right to the point. Not like a lot of reviews where people like to hear themselves talk. Bla bla bla.. Again, thx for a great review.. Shine on brother!
I'm sure you could I would try a small sample first to make sure it doesn't cloud up sometimes if there's a lot of minerals in the water it'll cloud up but just do it on a very small scale and if everything works out good you can up it to a large scale
@@TheShineshackjust finished my third run ever. Looking for post distilled flavor without sacrificing clarity. Clarity with color is ok but not hazy shine. Have any suggestions, or a vid of your own to recc.. ?
I either get it on Amazon or their website if you Google broken bones distillery their website pops up and you can buy it from there. I love that stuff. It works great every time and it's a decent price and also shua is an awesome person 😁
No not enough to pick em out 😂 that's a lot of extra work To get all the seeds out I've made a mash with just pure applesauce before and then whole crushed apples. And honestly I like the whole crust apples better
They didnt have blackberry in TTB. I asked if they could make it and they havent answered back yet,. I tried the PG blackberry they have and it didnt flavor right....
I just got a buy one get 1 free special on my first Vevor kit. 2x 8 gallon kits for a total of $61 bucks... should be here in 2 more days. REviews were great.
Hell yeah that's awesome and a killer deal you will love it A awesome starter still. I really appreciate your support. If you ever have any questions feel free to ask
@@TheShineshack Whats the best way to clean out a new still? I was thinking a 50/50 vinegar wash... followed by a sacrificial sugar run... with that said.. in an 8 gallon kit to clean it.. how many gallons should i put thru? IE 8 gallon tub... so like 4 gallons?
Just do a 50/50 blend of vinegar and water. You don't have to do a sacrificial run. If you do, you can keep the liquor that comes off of it if you like how it tastes. If you don't want to run vinegar you can do a sacrificial run but you don't have to do both
Yep, I would do 2 gallons of vinegar and 2 gallons of water run it hard with no water in the condenser. Let it pour steam for 20 to 30 minutes, cut it off. Rinse it out with water and you're ready to make liquor brother
