Thank you for sharing your actual work on this car. @PatsGarageOnline has a garage and a fancy car lift and wasted our time just talking about the compressor. You actually did the work! I don’t know why his videos are still uploaded because they’re completely useless. We need more people like you, mechanically inclined guys that can show us the work being preformed and less of guys just blowing hot air like Pat

@@user-gm3dk6mv6h Hello. Let's not discredit Pat. He did a good job in making a video to inform others that the AC compressor is a common issue with this vehicles. It does not always have to be a DIY video, informative video are as useful as well. And let's not hate just because he has a lift. Some can afford them, so why not. If I have the space and money, I would definitely buy one as well. And if not for him, I would have not venture into buying an i8. any information on the i8 should be appreciated. We are all here to help each other in figuring out the i8 as there is barely information about them. So let's all just try to get along. Anyway, thank you for your kind words, and thank you for watching! - Rjeff H2H

@@How2Helen Thanks. I was waiting for the day when someone like you would come along and share the process. To the other person: my compressor never failed so I didn't fix what wasn't broken. 😊

@@PatsGarageOnline Lol. I am in the same boat. I daily have request on repair videos of cars I do not have, or replace parts that are working on my car. And there is nothing wrong with making informative videos. I made an informative video on where I bought the AC compressor to save others money if they want to take a risk, And to quote the G.I. Joe: "Knowing is half the battle" or something like that. Thanks again Pat! You are my i8 Hero, now Lambo Hero! - Rjeff H2H

Awesome job! This is a $3k job at BMW, if it fails in a couple of years at least it’ll match the OEM 😂. Seriously probably needs re oiling from time to time. Or yearly temp check of the compressor using laser gun.

Thanks! Where did you get a $3k quote? I was quoted way higher than that, which is why I decided to diy. If you saw the compressor I removed, it was barely 3 years old. I will make frequent updates to help others. Thank you for watching! - Rjeff H2H

@@How2HelenActually it was a bmw specialty shop. Do you know anything about the PAG oil this thing uses? I thought it wasn’t recommended for hybrids due to being electrically conductive?

So, when you bought this i8, the compressor was load, but still functional? And when you had the refrigerant evacuated, you are still able to drive and charge the battery?

I didn't realize that even the new AC compressor has so loud noise - and that's normal for it? I've being kind of worried for mine, it has that ... well ... "compressor" noise. Which one can hear when standing next to the passenger front fender.
@How2Helen
@How2Helen 26 дней назад
Hello. After filling up the AC system with the correct amount of refrigerant, the sound goes away. You don't even hear it running. The compressor needs the correct "load". With less load, the compressor will run faster, causing the metal noise. Please add refrigerant in your system before the compressor goes bonkers. Once it is almost full, you will hear the noise disappear. Let us know how it goes. Thank you for asking! - Rjeff H2H

Hey Can you let me know if all is still working fine for you and if it didnt give you any more errors or troubles because all you did was replacing the compressor right? The garage I called today they mentioned that the condensor also needs to be replaced when I replace the compressor any thoughts on this . as I watched your video and you didnt touch the condensor. Thanks for making this video.

Hello. Yes, the compressor seems to be holding up. Surprisingly, once the compressor was working, some of the random code is gone, particularly the code that will cause the vehicle not to pass inspection (See the first video I had for the i8 for reference). The i8 seemed to have the compressor replaced recently before it failed again, and I would assume they have replaced the condenser as well. If they did not replace it, then, hopefully they at least inspected it and deemed it was still ok. That is why I did not replace the condenser. I am planning on making a video and have more details regarding the replaced compressor and other details about the repair. I am just making sure the new compressor holds up more than 6 months. Hopefully, it will have most of the answers you are seeking. If you have more questions, please pm us on Facebook, and will be happy to answer your questions. Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you for watching! - Rjeff H2H
