If there are any serious injuries or a lot of blood multiple times it’s likely time to stop trying to bond them, I kept trying to introduce 2 of my boys and even a few weeks into them being okay they’d suddenly draw blood again to the point that it got dangerous to put them back together. One of my guinea pigs has ended up with a rip half way down his ear (separating 2 pieces of it) and large cuts on his chin whilst the other had nothing more than a few small bites or scratches - he’s clearly the better fighter. I don’t know about female guinea pigs but I know that when males fight for dominance it can get to the point that they fight to the death if they kept being put together which is why I stopped out of fear. Just a warning.

thank you for this! my 7 year old guinea pig just lost her friend, at only 4 years old too. so we decided to immediately get two younger guinea pigs so she wouldn’t die of loneliness. the youngest seems to think she’s boss but this video really helped!

I found two bonded males at a park and wanted to add more. so, I added one and it was completely fine. I found another cute guy and added him tried to bond them and stuff but unfortunately as I'm watching them chatter the newest guinea pig bit my original male's nose off. It was probably the worst day of my life because he has to be housed by himself till his nose is completely heal. His strategy was to get really close to another pig's face and lunge at them with the intention of causing harm. I also rehomed the newest pig (with consent from the previous owner) with my brother to live his life as a single piggy because he would continuously chase the other males.

I never thought I would have to do this so soon one of my two piggies dies as one was a skinny pig and they have a lower life expectancy and we are going to need to introduce a new guinnea pig to the one still alive so he is not alone obviously after new guinnea pig quarantine tho

I've had the rolling cloud of fur reaction before (beyond terrifying). Recently I've felt encouraged to try to reintroduce after some time of their enclosures being next to each other. Thanks for the refresher and a bit of new ideas!

After lockdown, I am going to introduce three more guinea pigs to my lonely boar (well he does live in a split cage with two others) and hopefully, have a heard of four even though every guinea pig with be able to speak to 5 different guinea pigs - just with bars seperating them from my other two boars. I will have a herd of four in a split cage with two "single" pigs.💕😉

I can say it took over a month finally as I have been worried after getting a new friend for Idun (old one had to put to sleep, long story and makes me sad) only a couple days after. I should have waited least a week for Idun to comprehend her old friend was not coming back and the new piggie Pixie the 2 where arguing a lot as Idun was not happy it was not Moxie who had taken great care of Idun when she was only over a month old. Well they are getting along now, I hear no more sudden "fighting or rumblestrutting, now both chilaxing and cheaky when it comes to food

I recently added a new guinea pig to my other two guinea pigs' herd (they were each 1 year old) and there was initially lots of fighting and chasing which is ok (i learned that from this video) but after a few weeks, my new guinea pig had a gash on her nose and a week later one of my older guinea pigs had a huge gash on her side and neck. I was able to tell which guinea pig did this (it was my other 1 year old) and I took her to the vet. she has healed now but is there any reason why my older guinea pig attacked both the new guinea pig and her old roommate? Thanks! love your videos btw- they really helped me learn how to be a better guinea pig mom :)

How long do you introduce in the neutral space before you can put them in the cage together? Should the cage be close but have a barrier at first?

I know you already mentioned about blood in the video but I still have a question. I have 4 male guinea pig and the two oldest live together and the two youngest live together, they were put together and they got along at first but then, one of the younger ones that only has one eye, got bitten 6 times and blood came from all the holes. It has been a couple of months now and I haven’t put them together but I was wondering, should I put them together again to bond or should I not? Love you videos and they have really helped me out in the past and please reply to let me know!☺️

if the parents are the main carers and kids know that guinea pigs aren't pets that should be taken out of the cage all the time, then sure :)

I have a 6 week old Guinea pig I've been trying to find a young friend for. My two older girls wouldn't except her I just brought home a 3 month old little girl it took 6 hours to fully bond them then was able to put in cage for the night been 4 days they are doing well but have a few moments the 6 week old gets dominant since she was the first one here.

Just be careful when they get to their ‘teenage years’ (or around 6-8 months) I think the statistic is roughly only 10% of bonded baby guinea pigs last through the teenage years. I know that’s definitely the statistic for boys idk if it’s girls too though

I am not sure what to do, I had a litter of 3 from my female 3 weeks ago and the male baby has started strutting. I don't know if its too early for them to be fertile at 3 weeks. I introduced the baby male to the father today. They seemed curious to each other, but started strutting, then the father chased him around.. And started mounting him. That doesn't seem like its normal to me so I seperated them. Do they need to be mounted and hurt? this doesn't sound like "fighting".

Thank you for the tips! I have had my two boys for about a year now. My oldest pig, Coconut, is very chill and laid back. My youngest is Mango, and he is the one fighting. Is this normal? Is there anything else I can do to make sure they will be happy together? I had them in a cage together when they were very young. I had just gotten Mango and he was about 3 months old. Or is it weeks? How old are guinea pigs when you first get them usually? Anyways, Mango and Coconut were fine together, until one day I found them fighting in the cage. I came in and tried to intervene because they were so loud and Mango had a bite on his nose that was pretty nasty. It took me, my brother, and my mom to tear them off of each other. I have tried putting them in a large cage I made out of spare cage squares, but those bonding times didn’t last long because they were pulling out hair. What is the best thing to do? I am definitely going to use these tips! Ilysm, and thank you!

I’m assuming you have separated them for a full 24 hours before? If not, do that and then try to re-bond them. Otherwise you might need to separate them and find them new cage mates

Once my guinea pigs were fighting and rolling around but then after they immediately stopped and I checked then both and there was no scratches or blood, which made me really confused. We separated them and it’s been about a year but I don’t know what to do :c

I recently found out my two males have been fighting, it's a struggle as they live outdoors and it's cold and wet sometimes, they are provided enough space. But we decided we will remove one piggy and replace it with a younger male around 4 months, is it possible that this method will work: either have a run indoors or outdoors and bond them for a few hours and stuff and then leave them over night in the same hutch?) I'm not sure whether it's a good idea to leave them together overnight if they are new to eachother, but I'm not sure what else I can do as I'm not allowed them indoors

I stored they food in a large plastic bag near they cage and when i open it to feed them, the bag often create lound noises and my guinea pig begin to make noise too. Should i put the bag away cause i think they scared of the bag

Hi! Just have a question for a inrtaduction process. So this Sunday Im gonna get my first ginnys, they're both from seprate houses, and should i start inrtaduction right away puting them in their new cage (Bc im gonna take them home at the same time) or divide cage in two section by puting some wall and first give them time to get used their new home?

Unless your guinea pig has health issues where they are too weak to defend themselves they shouldn't be alone.

It could be that the pig is very hard to bond with other pigs of the same gender, if that’s the case then neutering and getting one of the other gender is more likely to work. Generally guinea pigs shouldn’t be alone unless there has been a bloody fight and they’re waiting to be re-bonded or for another cagemate. But I will stress that neutering is extremely important if you go down that route

I have 2 female sisters I got in July at 8 wks. I then got another female at 8 wks in early Oct in her own cage and another female at 8 wks in early Dec in her own cage. They have been all next to each other through cages all connecting. I want to put all 4 females into 1 large cage but is there a particular order I should introduce them in like oldest to youngest or vice versa? Thank you! And even though the 3 sisters have been in the same cage since July can still accept other piggies? Thank you!
