If you were off the streets you would have no problem in relating to Tyson's style. He grew up in a brothel and had to fend for himself. His style is the raw street style which has been perfected by Cus Damato to an art. Its a very cunning and sly craft where you capitalize on your opponents weakness and always catch them by surprise. Thats how you win with least effort. Its not a Ramboesque bravado style where you get hit twice and hit back harder. This is how I survived in the streets of Calcutta as a small boy back in the early 90's. Calcutta was a British colonial pocket and everyone was still reeling from the colonial hangover. Small boys would be picked and bullied at school and on the streets. The streets were very different from our forgiving and tolerant culture at home. I shall be ever grateful for having the privillege of watching Tyson play at some point of my early childhood although we never had a TV growing up. It gave me the courage to fight back and I have never looked back ever since. Hare Krsna !!
@@laislabonia there’s nothing raw about Tyson’s style. He was trained by Cus since he was a boy and Cus developed and perfected the style during his whole life. Tyson was skilled AF.
Tyson would Taylor his stance to his opponent. When Cuss was alive and Kevin Rooney was still on board he was straight up peekaboo. After Cuss passed and Kevin was removed Tyson was still able to defeat his opponents based on his training but slowly you can see his skill level diminish and he became reliant 1 punch power and he started to lose.... it was hard to watch because I truly believe that Tyson was unbeatable in the boxing ring when he fought with Cuss had taught him. I mean the man never got hit, watch his old fights he was like a Greek frigging God. It was unbelievable. No one could beat him. I don't give a shit if you put Ali in his prime in there Tyson would chew him up. Cuss knew Tyson with his style would never lose. Tyson defeated himself.
I was attacked just over a month ago by a druggie. You could tell straight away he was fantasising that he was Tyson. He got a finger in his eye and palm heel to the chin..My dad did a bit of circus peekaboo. He'd still find a corner to protect back. Cover and pop those who got to close. Takes alot of training to fight correctly with it. 🥊
@@rifaeerasheedh5166lol na it’s all hard nothing to do with style peek a boo doesn’t work to everybody u have to start early age to much muscle memory super hard and takes forever
Best way to train it is get a baby and practice with them. They are really into it and won’t get tired from it. Most adults don’t have the energy for much peekaboo but with a baby you will get lots of time in and that’s the e best way to train- through repetitions.
The mention of how Cus implemented a scientific style not common in boxing at the time makes me recall how whenever you hear Mike talk about boxing he sounds like a student of a science. People talk about the ferocity of Mike Tyson, but he was super scary because Cus refined and fused that with science. The Hajime no Ippo trope of a perfect fusion of science and animal.
@@DavidJones-tp9vythe mindset definitely made him better at the sport, but every fighter he boxed also had that mindset (there are exceptions but you have to be a little narcissistic going into a fight with prime mike tyson and believe you will kill your opponent). The reason he was deadly is because he knew the peekaboo style like the back of his hand, watch him in the ring, it's not just that he's powerful, he was ruthlessly skilled, he dodged nearly every punch, and only tanked when he was absolutely sure he will get a bigger hit on the other dude. He had trained since the age of 14, he knew the inside of a ring like it was his own home, he was alert but relaxed, he studied his opponents and adapted in the ring itself, the guy is genuinely just the smartest fighter alive.
You only covered part of the technique. Mike torqued his body to accelerate the punch and kept his arms close to his body which increased punch power and speed. He also pushed up with his legs to accelerate the punch. The arms traveled side ways and over short distances getting power from the legs, body twist and shoulders combined. They also had a number system which designated blows to different parts of the body and they would work on those combinations. And IMO the ‘deadliest’ combination was a blow to the ribs from the side and a uppercut between the arms after the opponent moved his elbow as a defensive reflex to protect the ribs… impossible to counter! Also, they would train not to get punched by shifting the head several times after punching.
My coach told to me to use this stance, he didnt really tell me anything about it, or even mention it was pee-a-boo style, then i looked at the mirror, reminds of somebody, i search it up, it was Mike Tyson's stance, oh well. I just got interested in boxing 4 months ago, signed up to the gym 3 and half months lol
Hello, Very good explained about the shifts. What I can see in instruction clips from Teddy Atlas and other experts, is that you need to move your head after you are finished with your punches. There are also some rules saying that you move 3 times (side to side) to avoid straight punches, 2 times to avoid hooks (U-shaped movements). This is basics, but not always explained in every peek a boo clip. Thanks
Yes you have to move after your punch but if you are on his side you don't need to move your head just throw your punches with all the power you can generate because he can't punch you if you're on his side
Great job on the shift. First time I've seen it explained that way. By shifting your weight its almost like adding a slip after your switch that auto loads up your rear hand. Very cool.
Interesting. I'm a chess instructor, and I always say that "Chess is the martial art of the mind". I also compare chess to boxing, as they are VERY similar.
@TheGreekGod Physique You don’t know boxing🤡. Mike Tyson was still dangerous after Prison he fought Holyfield too early but second fight he was in shape but got mad because of head butting
I was surprised when Tyson himself said style doesn’t matter on Joe Rogan’s podcast. Rogan asked him about peekaboo and he just kept saying heart is what matters and not style. He refused to give it any credit for his success
Like and respect for this man, this is the most detail PEEKABOO tutorial. One thing to point out from my taking is , while shifting to the outside(orthodox to the right)(southpaw to the left), your lead hand will change, but when shifting to the inside(orthodox to the left) (southpaw to the right), your lead hand will still stay the same as you can observe his foot in the video on the shifting part.
@@VITERIBOXINGENGLISH hey pls make a video about footwork for beginners and how to move while throwing jabs and stuff my guy. I am new to boxing and don’t know the basics.
I'm learning this style even though I am a lanky counter puncher who fights on the outside. Too many boxers are one-dimensional I think. It's good to be able to use different styles to supplement your main style.
When you're losing the fight, get in really close to your opponent and quickly obscure his vision with a one hundred dollar bill so you can set him up with a combination. It's the new strategy 😂
Wow! I have followed you in your Spanish boxing channel for a while and It has been so helpful to me. I´m a Mexican boxing fan and it is so nice to follow you in English now! Keep on doing the great job! P. D Felicidades por tu nivel de inglés
This is very good. One thing of note - Cus modeled peekaboo movement from Maxie Rosenbloom and then added the superhuman insane power and speed of Iron Mike along with the brilliant number system
the 2 main things are the sagitale plan that is the combat plan between the 2 fighters and the kinetic chain that exploits the force impressed by the big toe of the foot up to the fist your explanation was excellent I can't wait to try it tomorrow in the gym a like stra deserved very good
I have been following you on your Spanish language channel for a few years, but this makes things much clearer (a good thing?) Many thanks! Cheers from the Canadian Outback
Hi, I just found your channel and i think it's a great channel. I've been an admirer of boxing and mixed in other stuff into it since I was a kid and I now want to look into your style you mentioned at the end of this video. Is this program for certification?
Hi, you earned a new sub. Would the peek a boo always favorite the smaller/shorter fighter? Tyson is a couple of years older than me, and was my hero in the 80's.
