Don’t use a sauna. I don’t use any heat on my gloves. Just the pitching machine and mallet. Might take a little tiny bit longer but also better for the life of the leather
I used a treatment called Hot Glove oil. You treat your glove with it then heat it up in the oven works great. Never had any problems. Moisture is bad for gloves. They start to smell and get extremely hard. The leather hates water
Ive been misting/steaming gloves with water for 30 years never a problem.. Soaking them in water not letting them get good air movement is when you get mildew and stink
As a kid I just slept on it under my mattress with a ball in the pocket. 3 nights later with a bit of catch between nights under the mattress and it was game ready
@@thegreatnesto7140 think it was just the weight of the mattress and us sleeping on it that softened up the leather and helped shape the glove over time. Recently did it with my new glove, my wife thought I was crazy but it was game ready after a few nights and some couch catch
Pretty good job sir. Not flexing but I used the Ball Glove King’s method with a dunk in a bucket of water first, mallet work with the glove wrapped loosely in a towel focusing on the hinges and for two in the pinky break in, dry for two days, mallet some more then condition… worked perfectly for my current Rawlings HoH gamer and my son’s A-2000. ✌🏼 🤙🏽 ⚾️
@CAS The sauna originated in Finland over 2000 years ago. In Finnish they pronounce it sauna with the au sounding like wow or foul or cow. It makes the "ow" sound like if you got hit you say "ow"
Old school here. We used soak the glove in water and tie it shut with a ball in the pocket. Once it dried we would oil the entire give up with neatsfoot oil. Neatsfoot oil is a leather conditioning oil that’s been used on horse harnesses and saddles for a few hundred years now. Most of your modern glove conditioners have a healthy percentage of neatsfoot oil in it. Always had good luck getting a good pocket in the glove and getting it soft and flexible.
My king back during your pro days. How long would it take you to start using a new catchers glove in games? I always just caught bullpens all day at camp and by scrimmages I found it to be ready.
Having so many gloves you get creative and better as the years go lol. I definitely use the mattress, left it under my moms car tire ( bad idea ) lol. You learn
Mink oil, a softball, and elastic bands. Than play catch. Its way more cost effective than buying a sauna or pitching machine..... cause everyones got those sitting around
Pitching machines is legit the best way to do it after beating the hell out of it. So easy to do 100 hundred catches with the machine in under 5 mins or so.
i used to cover my glove in vaseline bake it at 165 for a couple minutes then put a baseball inside of it and tie the glove together with some kitchen twine and put it under my matress for a day or 2.
I mist mine tie it up in a trash bag throw it up on the dash of a car in direct sunlight.. Hr or 2 later losse and toasty.. start beating it with a mallet and couple hrs of catching "gas" its money..
