I’ve been breaking in an Under Armour 12.75” pro stock and haven’t felt great about it to date, partly because it’s an absolute tank and has taken a ton of work to even make it serviceable, but also because it feels shallow for an OF glove. Watching this, I loosened the pinky loop and threw on a couple glove locks. Three in the pinky fits perfectly and the glove instantly felt more secure. I like the extra inch or so of length this gives too. I’ve been debating whether to keep this glove, which is a dang beauty in all other respects, but now I think it can become a perennial gamer for me. Thanks, Chris!
as someone who loves 3 in the pinky as a outfielder i love it i was curious to see if it was doable in a japanese glove since im thinking about getting a wilson staff but seeing the jax helped me want to buy a wilson staff even more great video
This was a revelation to me! I got a 12.75 gg elite in the fall, broke in two hinges, two in the pinky but never could get it to close thumb to pinky. After trying this its more comfortable, deeper and closes perfect!
I played all the way through college (2003) and I recently broke out my college glove as a center fielder. My glove technique is the same as you are suggesting. break in looks the same as Max's but I go two in the pinky with the thumb to middle finger. It is the best feel for catching line drive and fly balls. off the ground it was great. It never bothered me. I go 12" on the glove so I can still get the ball out really quickly.
I use a 12.75 rawling HOH for softball outfield, I love it. Pocket is deep and the ball is bigger so you can feel it more. Only thing that isn’t favorable are scooping balls off the ground
I used 3 in the pinky, when I was injured a few years ago. I am from Germany and I had a tournament in California at the Twin Creeks Sports Complex. I made like 4 diving catches with it, but I like 2 in the pinky more.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Wilson DP15 model. I have had the A1K version for seven years now, all through high school and loved it, specifically because of the lack of a heel pad. But I do have a little bit of an issue with doinkage. Do you think this is due to my break in, or due to the model? Love the videos so much, thanks
Would you be interested in a "Judge my Glove" series? Fans send in gloves to you and you judge the 'break-in' of the glove? Run fun tests on it and such. Could lead to a bunch of funny situations and get you hands on with an even wider variety of gloves. Have fans write an explanation of what they were going for, or list video they were trying to follow to get their break-in done.
I wear my outfield gloves with 3 in the pinky because it gives me more length for the glove because your wrist moves down while still being able to squeeze the glove well
I recently started going 2 in the pinky and 2 completely out. So pinky and ring finger in the pinky, middle and pointer finger outside of the glove and almost overlapping the 2 on the inside. My hand closes more like a crab claw. It’s changed my whole game. It’s the most comfortable grip I’ve ever had.
I do three in the pinky for a shortstop and second base! I know that sounds crazy, but I feel like I had to faster transition and more ball protection like that. I got everything up in the infield no balls ever pop out.
Do you know anything about the Japanese Rawlings Hypertech? I see a few of them on Amazon for just north of 100 dollars. What would they be comparable to stateside quality wise?
how do you get the heel to stay still like yours??when I close my heel collapses like into my hand but I want to to stay still??I do 3 in the pinky also btw
I saw a video a while ago where Byron Burton mentioned he used 3 in the pinky and went pinky to thumb on close. I am full time 3 in the pinky in my OF glove now.
I've always thought that 3 in the pinky aids to the outfielder idea of "trying to trap the ball as well as possible", but it does give me less feeling for the ball and every now and then it doesn't stay in the pocket
Is Zach your fungo guy? 😁 It would be nice to get his "feel & fit" for gloves with his bigger hands. I have massive hands and still don't feel comfortable with my Wilson 1799 going 2 in the pinky. Not your target audience I know, but it would be good info. Thanks
So which is generally better for outfielders? 1 hinge or 2 hinge? I may have missed the answer 😅 Seems like 3 in the pinky shifts more towards a 1 hinge
