Wahey! Mark's Aquatics back on the breeding rampage! I replay your vids in the background whilst I work. Relaxing and informative. I'll be attempting CPDanios, Cory Pygmaeus and Chili Rasbora (Brigittae) spawns soon. I've been breeding Wild Type Bettas (Smaragdina, Coccina, Hendra and Stiktos) recently so its probably time for a change. Keep it up Mark, I've missed your breeding vids 🙂

Hi Mark, Once again you amaze me with your knowledge. There does appear to be one thing you are not aware of :>) All the Nitrate and Nitrite issues you mention can be solved with one secret material. I know because it is the only material used here for 700 gallons of Marine Ponds and 400 gallons of Turtle and shrimp Fresh water ponds. The material works in all types of water. Are You Ready ? Common Knitted HDPE Shade Cloth 90%. It is available at any good Hardware Supply. Why>> The cloth is knitted for a 3 D loft. Self ventilating and large flow for water. The Fabric is knitted of Ribbons of HDPE. Were the Ribbons twist around each other they form Anaerobic Envelopes. It seems that the Aerobic love the outside surface and the Anaerobic love the inside folds. Hold some up to light and see the dark pockets. My Marine ponds have a huge variety of life but they never have Nitrite or Nitrate problems. The inside Tanks here, one Marine and one Fresh, use the same fabric. They use Fresh Water Foam Filter Units, just like yours, with the Foam Cores replaced with hand wound Spindles of Shade Cloth. No Nitrate or Nitrite. Wind them to the same size as the foam. Without any other change, the Unit will produce Coral Quality Marine in 7 Days. If you use any Aragonite it will still take 6 weeks to catch up to the Bio Bobbins. Another advantage to you is that a Bobbin can be preconditioned for the Target Water for an instant Marine Tank. There are several Marine Bobbin floating in the Ponds as backups for inside. The only addition to the Marine Systems here are Protein Skimmers. I use about one square foot per gallon in Tanks ( Two Fat Foam Core replacements ) and half that in Ponds ( Fabric Turbans around Pond Pumps ). They self clean so the Pump replacement every few years is the only maintenance. The Shrimp Fry do fine with the Fabric Barrier around the Pump in Fresh and Green Lip Mussels spawn continuously in the Marine Ponds. Please give the Fabric a chance. It is a game changer that is unknown. No Live Coral required, 7 day cycle. reef 2 reef different tank build Henn. It could help with your Water treatment. Without this miracle material my Pond Complex would be impossible. PS>> The new Tetra Pond here that copies your Tank Breeding in 300 gallons, uses about 150 square feet of Shade Cloth around a 300 GPH Pond pump. I added two Bubblers for Hydrogen Sulfide removal due to rotten Loquat Leaves on the bottom. The Tetras seem happy under all the water Lettuce and the water is spring clear.

Hi Mark - have been watching a lot of your videos - started off with the one in which you make a couple of bonsai trees!!! My blood ran cold when I saw you drilling into a rock (from Scotland!!) and a stick in your hand!!!! I have only just started keeping a fish!! Yes, only one - a Betta blue crown tail - have managed to keep him alive for 2 months so far!!! You have heard of silver surfers - well I am a silver fish keeper!!! with the lockdown etc and winter coming I felt I needed something to care for and nurture - so decided on a fish!!! I spent a lot of time on line first, gathering information & speaking to people in fish/aquarium tank shops......got my 25Lt tank cycled and then got my fish..........I have got an Anubius in the tank, a couple of moss balls and stones I collected on the beach which I washed thoroughly and the substrate is black sand. But I love Japanese gardens so wanted to do a bit of interior decorating and have a Bonsai - to buy them costs a lot - then I found your video on making my own........so went down to the River Clyde - live in Scotland - as we have had quite stormy weather and picked up twigs and small bits of wood which I have boiled....but after watching your video on "what not to put in your tank" just now, and the warnings you were giving about wood - I am now worried.....I do not know what kind of wood/sticks they are!!! Yet you went into the woods and got sticks for your Bonsai. You have the knowledge. We do have a lot of wooded areas around but I am not knowledgeable about what the trees all are......... sorry this is such a long story!!! But hopefully you can give a bit of advice. Thanks in advance - sincerely Kay.

Hi. Oak is a good wood to use as its heavy and sinks quicker. Beach wood can absorb things at sea and the they can leach out in your aquarium. Its best to collect from the woods.

@@MARKSAQUATICS Hi Mark - well all my twigs went into the bin!!! I know there are oak trees around here - but I do not know if I could safely identify what I see dead on the ground! So back to square one!! I gather from your videos that you do sell stuff - would you consider posting me some nice "Bonsai" bits of oak??!! I would pay for it!!! Kay.

Hi Mark - thanks for your reply about the oak - as for me collecting branches in the woods - do not think I could identify oak!!! All my sticks from the river bank went in the bin so back to square one!!! I did ask you below but maybe you did not see it - would you consider sending some nice bonsai type twigs through the post??? Do not know if it is a possibility??? then I would know it was safe and I would pay you for it!!! I am just so nervous of adding the wrong things to the tank!! Cheers Kay.

I wonder what you think about Daphnia (and Moina) as fish food. Here in Germany there is this opinion being handed down from the "experienced" guys that they are basically only good to chew on and keep the fish occupied, but not good for conditioning or raising fish at all. I think I have traced back that rumor/wisdom down to a particular author and book, but I wonder what you think of the nutritional value of Daphnia for breeding fish since you mentioned Daphnia in the video...
@MARKSAQUATICS
@MARKSAQUATICS 3 года назад
Daphnia don't have alot of nutritional value but it makes the fish think there's an abundance of natural food which kicks off breeding sooner.
@Andreas-gh6is
@Andreas-gh6is 3 года назад
@@MARKSAQUATICS The confusing part is that in many studies they have 98% water content and more. Otherwise they get as high in protein as any other food. In most feeding experiments comparing them against artemia and commercial diets when raising fry, they can usually hold their own, though. So there's mixed information out there...

Iv been trying to breed my pair for a while. the female is quite a bit bigger about 3 inches or so. the male about 1.5 they have gone around and done the embrace and looked like there spawning frequently on mops and gravel anthing really, almost everytime i put them together instantly they spawn or what looks like spawning but no eggs. and then if i leave them together for too long, they start sparring, flaring and what looks like fighting with each other. is this possibly because the female lives separated from the male and i only add him to the main tank when id like them to breed? typical territorial behaviour for a new tank mate maybe, they dont seem to be injuring eachother? she seems stressed easily by him.
@MARKSAQUATICS
@MARKSAQUATICS 3 года назад
Its best to keep them apart. If breeding just two. It could be the male is still a bit young.
@coleomo
@coleomo 3 года назад
@@MARKSAQUATICS Thanks mark, i suppose i was wrong about the no eggs portion of it as i found fry in the females tank today. but still dont understand why she was sparring with the lil dude. i think he pushes her too hard as he has nothing but spawning on his mind and she spends a good portion of time trying to move away. pretty sophisticated behavior honestly. thanks for the help.
