After inserting the bicarbonate how can I then measure or make sure the anesthetic is now buffered? Can I use a tool to measure the pH?
@olgabyakina7076

litmus paper would probably be the easiest way to measure pH

There are 10 ml ampules available, cost 1.4 euro that s 1.6 usd. U need a filter needle to aspirate it for safety so as not to inject glass particles. Ask your pharmacist they use it.

Had no idea. Curious if I could find them here in Canada. Thanks! All the best!

I have a problem with IANB after I aspirate negative and administration patient feel dizzy any tips .?!

I would imagine it's not due to intravascular injections, but rather a vasovagal response which can happen for some from needle penetration of the tissues or it could be a postural thing if you're sitting people up quickly after the injection. Those are my best guesses - hopefully that helps! All the best!

Why would you want to buffer your ANE?
@OnlineExodontia
@OnlineExodontia 3 года назад
I listed a couple reasons in the video and the link below the video offers more insight to your question. Mainly to increase injection comfort, help to overcome inflammation / infection in the tissue for more successful anesthesia, as well as to get a deeper, more profound effect of the anesthetic. All the best and thanks for watching!

Do you have the article reference to check it out, just to have a good profound lecture on this info

Which needle is more safer and effective for an inferior alveolar nerve block? Short needle or long needle
@OnlineExodontia
@OnlineExodontia 3 года назад
You can administer a block safely (and effectively) with either, but a long needle is generally preferred. If you choose a short needle it's advisable that you don't insert to the hub in case it happens to break. I think this would be very unlikely, but there are reports of it happening. All the best!

Been using a short needle for 20 years for IAN blocks. You will get much more reliable blocks with a short needle

In the gray vial is that 1% lidocaine with epinephrine or just lidocaine? And for dental block instead of using 1ml of 8.4 bicarbonate sodium can you use bacteriostatic 0.9 sodium chloride instead?

Do you have any article that only 0.1 ml is sufficient for buffering as some are proposing 20 units and some are even proposing 30 units ?
@OnlineExodontia

I do not, other than the one that I referenced.

The only sodium bicarbonate injectables I could find is 50 ml single patient use. I am weary about using a single use vial on multiple patients.

I mention this in the video and that I’d a drawback to this method. Anutra and OnPharma have single use systems that you could check out. All the best!

Good afternoon. Thank you very much for this video. Please, does the Carbon-dioxide produced have any effect on the tissues? Thank you.

Great question - nothing of significance is observed clinically, however carbon dioxide does have an impact on nerve cells. I'm not 100% clear on the mechanism, but I'm sure if you look into it you'll find more! All the best!

Do you draw 0.1mL sodium bicarbonate for both Lidocaine and articaine? Or does amount differ? It does seem to be a shame to discard all that sodium bicarbonate bottle after from only 0.1mL use. I would only reserve this technique for "hot" teeth or swelling. Never tried it before. Seems promising.
@OnlineExodontia
@OnlineExodontia 2 года назад
Yes you can use the same amount. The carpules only differ by .1mL. The bottles are labeled single use only as mentioned. If you choose to re-use them it would be best to invest in a system like Anutra. All the best!

@@OnlineExodontia thanks. Have there been any post-op issues (i.e. swelling) when it comes buffering? Is it better to use lido vs articaine?
@OnlineExodontia
@OnlineExodontia 2 года назад
@@n.m.3760 I haven't ran into any personally that I was made aware of. Frankly, I'm not certain if there would be any advantage to using Lidocaine vs. Articaine. I have used it in both and can't say there's an appreciable difference clinically. All the best!
