Whenever I've been warned that you've posted a new video, I first look at its length (hoping that the longer the better ;), then I schedule the best time to watch it. It's a piece of entertainment and a great piece of achievement as well. We're on sunday and I appreciate your effort, your seriousness and your pretty good imagination. Thank you Nikodem. I'm sure that this spindle-based CNC will be much better on all aspects than your very good dremel solution. Can't wait the very first tests. Have a great week!

Fantastic upgrade. I have been just finished printing all the parts for the first version of your Dremel CNC and am waiting for some of the other parts to ship from China. Now, instead of purchasing a Dremel, I have just placed an order for the 500w spindle, and will have to print the Z-carriage for the aluminum spindle mount. Thank you for your great designs. You are inspiring.

Dear Nikodem Bartnik, I have built your 3D Printed CNC and started milling some calibration objects like a 20x20mm square out of 3.5mm acrylic. The problem I came up was that the x and y dimensions work just fine and I was able to calibrate them just fine but the z axis slaggs down in the milling process so that when it tries to mill the tabs and cut the piece free from the material, on the side where it starts it cuts way to high (like 0.3mm) so that it leaves some material on that side then it continues with the next side a litle bit lower then with the next one a little bit lower and then at the final side it cuts how it should (cuts through the material and leaves the tabs). I have moved the x and y axis very close to the bottom plate to verify that my build is not the problem. So I am assuming that it is a software problem but I have no idea where to look. I am looking forward to hearing from you and I hope you can help me P.S. I can send you some images of the parts that i milled.

With the spindle power supply, could you not replace the old school pot for speed control with a I2C digital pot and possibly an op amp to allow the Ardino/PC to control the spindle speed? Not sure if GRBL supports this, but would be a simple enough code modification to make it work.

what kind of leadscrews did you use 8x2 or 8x8 ones ?
@fataxe1
@fataxe1 4 года назад
you can't really use steppers for thrust support. They'll work for whip, but they use a spring washer for lash control and that isn't the greatest for backlash. This would probably be fine for 3d printing loads, but not for CNC routing. i would redesign for a captured pillow block if i were you.

just in case someone has the same amount of braincells as me, the collet mentioned in the intro is not the outer part. Its basically a metal thing with cuts at one end that can be clamped together by the thing you put it inside (hence the videos where you see people using a wrench on that outer shit every time they switch endmills (bits). figured id save someone the time of googling here. ER11 collet is the shiny metal thing with "blades" / cuts, thing around it is the shit you twist and tighten. This has been your daily dose of Explain Like I'm You
