Interesting little projects - charming, always love the way that you recycle and reuse, have an eye for details made from buckshee items. We all mess up, I've been modelling for 50 years and still I c@ck up in new and surprising ways. I've got unexpected problems with paint on a van at the moment, that I'm puzzling over how it occurred 🤔🤔🙄 Your remedy was exactly what I was going to suggest, either warm water or warm air and flat smooth nosed pliers. I've repaired ABS bodied open wagons like that and other IMP opens that the manufacturer has removed from the mould too quickly. That end up sold off cheaply or in the bargain basement bin - a steady nerve, gentle application of heat and smooth, flat pliers and it all comes good in time. 💜✌️👍😊
Love all your videos! Interesting your experience building Budget Model Railways 3D printed items. Lovely ppl to deal with for sure…but have to say I was rather disappointed/surprised with a 0n30 / 0-16.5 narrow gauge diesel 3D (priced as a “Sale” item) I bought from them (my first 3D printed item - and might be my last!). Some quite poor fitting parts (same as you found); and rock hard material used that made filing difficult when I tried to remove all print lines (such as the roof and bonnet ridge lines) and the 3D flash(?) on other parts. I guess being a ‘budget market’ targeted item, I was probably expecting too much - its certainly good value - as long as folk are happy to tidy things up during the build. I’m also fairly convinced it is way over scale (looks huge against everything else I have), although diesel switchers did vary a lot in size. I would be grateful if someone can advise me on the best filler to use to close up large and a few small gaps (how about white Milliput); and the best method to remove the many (rock hard) printing lines on the roof? TIA.
Thanks for watching David, I used a combination of Humbrol Plastic filler, Valejo plastic filler and Mr surfacer 500 to get rid of some of the printing lines on the roof. I did buy some really thin plasticard as my backup plan to cover the whole roofs if necessary. In all honesty I could have spent a lot longer on the carriage trying to hide more joins but I wanted this to be a fair representation of how these kits build up with just a little extra effort on things like the interior and glazing. The BMR guys are great as you say and I love the way that they encourage a low cost approach to a hobby that like most things, seems to be subject to spiralling costs!! Best regards, Jason
