We use “Big Foot” plastic footing forms that attach to the bottom of the tubes, but they also sell all-plastic footings with the tubes as part of the whole product.

The concrete posts at my cabin are crumbling at ground level after 15 years… i get the feeling the contractor used dirty lake water for his mix, or just a bad ratio. It’s a shame… I’m digging them out one at a time and either replacing or reinforcing with a box around the existing post with fresh concrete poured around them.

No need to wait, just take a grinder and score a vertical line 180 deg away from each other and peal away.

Footer not necessary, go with larger diameter tubes and dig a foot or 2 deeper

Wouldn't recommend this.

That's too general a statement. It depends on the load. Sure, if you're putting up a car-port it MIGHT work. But if you're putting up a substantial structure, the load needs to be distributed over a large enough area. This is the realm of a structural Engineer, based on a soil report from a soil scientist, that has tested the exact soil you intend to support your structure. I'm doing something right now and I'm throwing caution to the wind and doing a 2'x2'x1' footer, then using a 12" sonotube as the pier. It will likely hold the weight. However, I had the soil tested a hundred feet away for another structure, plus I overkilled a little.

Don't do it this way. Obviously there is no frost in this guy's area, he sets his footer right on top of the ground. Guaranteed to have settling, even if you're in a warm climate!

This guy is tripping! Wait several months to a year before cutting and stripping the tubes?!? I cut mine off after 10 days. The ones that got wet nearly fell off! It's friggin cardboard! Soak them with a water hose and have your 4 year old kid peel them off. What a buffoon! But hey, I give him credit for getting views of his one minute video that he worked on so hard.
