Come build a Cape Cod Colonial with me! The Cape Cod originated in, believe it or not, the Cape Cod area of Massachusetts and was first built in the 1690s. This style has spread across New England and the entire US, and is one of the most iconic subtypes of the Colonial family. Hallmarks of this architectural style include one and a half stories with small dormers, white siding and black shuttered windows, and a more open floorplan than most of its Colonial cousins. I go into how to fit this base architectural style into any world toward the middle of the video, but any world that has Colonial influences will be a perfect fit without modifications. I know this is cape cod theme but it also makes a cute cottage as well.

Given that the original Cape Cod homes were quite small, I believe that they would classify as cottages. Unless you mean more of a thatched type cottage like for country living, in which case you would also be correct. It's amazing what changing out the roof texture and windows can do.

I love the roofing and dormers here, so cute! It looks pretty close to Swedish houses, we often have 1.5 story houses which is extremely annoying that you can’t build. The black accents is very unusual, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that here in Sweden, we typically have white accents all the time.

I know, you can make an attic or a second story, but no true half story, and I wish we could. The white with black accents is another pretty traditional American thing, which is found on a few Colonial styles, especially the Cape Cod, and Farmhouses as well. Do you have white with white accents, or other colors with white accents? Now I'm curious.
