I'm very happy with my Winco Cutting Board, 12 by 18 by 1-Inch ($27) and hockey puck ($20) platform, DASKING Detachable Resistance Bands Bar 30"/35.4"/38.5" Lengths ($76), Malta Dynamics Fall Protection Carabiner Clip 2" Gate Tower Hooks for the big bands ($66 for two), and the entire range of Rubberbanditz bands ($200). Grand total $389.
There is another bar similar to the x3 that you didn't mention. It's called the Prebene resistance bar. It has similar hooks, it is quite substantial and well built, and it is collapsible. The longer version is about 39" and can be shortened to around 26" by taking out a middle part. It's rated at 300 lbs, which is more than adequate for most people. I use it and get a great workout. Check it out
I bought the "TESLANG Resistance Bar, Heavy Duty Strength Training Bars for Resistance Bands" (was on sale one day for $30, but now it's $60) and it's been working great with the 1x12x18 inch cutting board ($27 Winco) and hockey pucks (~$13) for my foot plate, 1 1/2" wood screws, I put in 3. I bought 41" bands during Prime Day for under $30, Thine Fitness. So far, been good, but I am going to be buying the 32" bands for the close in movements.
Bodylastics are the best bands made...they have a safety cord in the middle that keeps the bands from being overstretched and if one was to actually snap the safety band keeps you from taking a painful hit.
I've covered those a bit on the channel and personally do like them, but got rid of them because I just was preferring loop bands. With that said, I've had a few viewers comment to me that they don't like them because according to them, they wear out fairly easy. I'd rank them up there though as the best tube bands.
Instar bar with undersun bands, a door anchor, foot plate, and hook handles are doing great for me, yes it's mildly annoying to switch out bands but I don't find that I need to do that very often, the instar can handle heavy loads just fine without flexing or any indication of failure, I've been very impressed by it's sturdiness at that price point.
its a nice sturdy bar,i couldnt afford one so i make my own with a heavy duty piece of metal,i modified a metal chair seat as a foot plate, drilled a couple of holes, added band loops.thanks for mentioning the setup, plus the ideas of the diy versions for low income individuals who cant afford the x3 bar, thanks mike appreciate u brother😊
Awesome Elad, love hearing about your set up. It's funny you mentioned that because prior to recording this video I was looking around my house for potential foot plates and did a double take at my folding chairs. My wife said "no" to testing our cutting boards though...
With most/all the available systems, the part of the bands between the carabiners doesn't get under the same tension. It often relains completely loose, or the band has to slide on the carabiner. Using rollers allows getting a more uniform tension across the band, and provides a smoother feeling. The friction os almost completely ruled out. These rollers can be attached to the bar with anything such as strong string.
I bought a set of cheaper Odoland bands on Amazon & I have had no issues with them & they came with a carry bag, door hook and handles with carabiner connectors. 9 PC set in total. 40$ ish. I found that the bands that don't have attached carabiner work better than the ones with the connectors attached I'd recommend bands with separate handles with the carabiners only on the handles not the bands themselves.
First off I’m not super strong so keep this in mind when I say this. I can probably cut up a 2x4 and glue it up to make a board like that. It probably wouldn’t be the prettiest thing but it would work. I have some cheaper bands already so I might try it sometime this week.
Kinda random, but I stumbled upon a Nintendo Wii Balance Board at a thrift shop for $5 lmao it's very sturdy and works perfect as a platform for any sort of X3 type setup. Since no one uses the Wii anymore, I'm sure they're dirt cheap wherever you can find em - even Gamestop has used ones for $15
New bar that I just found on Amazon is the Prebene Resistance Band Bar. I don't love how it feels in the hand but it seems to function well enough so far. Only used it a few times.
Hey, first thumb/comment! 😁 not interested in foot plate style system...not everything for everybody. Didnt hav luk w/ Serious Steel bands, good, not great...my Undersun bands hav been awesome but my nxt set will b the 'banditz, thnx for recommendation! Always good stuff, thnx!
Do you have a rec for a workout guide ? X3 also comes with a 12 week plan. I’m a beginner to band training so looking for guidance on workouts. Thanks for the video!
I bought the jbryant bar and have the under sun bands and made a footplate like your Mac board just to try it out and I got hooked on doing band exercises again. In the future I might upgrade to the x3bar system. The jbryant bar gets the job done, it just has a few imperfections. Good content as always Mike.
THen you are dumb, sorry... go for the Harambe System. X3 is a waste of money, the items in themselves are okay, but you need extra for the small plate for it not to rib your bands, the bar is way too small for anything proper and will cramp your body for many exercises. Harambe is WAY better and it's not even close. It's your choice though. in any case, gl.
What are your current thoughts? I’ve heard a lot of mixed reviews about this bar but I also have under sun bands, so I was thinking of a set up similar to what you were using. Did you ever wind up getting the X.3? How do you like it compared to the J Bryant.
@@13Ambro I have not bought the x3bar yet they have their black Friday sale going on for $150 off, so I'm thinking of getting it. The things I don't like about the j bryant bar are the hooks move in, so when you're doing certain exercises it digs into to your wrist and the fabric that holds the hooks will slide longer on one side so it makes the tension different so it's uneven. If you have the money I would get the x3 especially with the sale price right now.
@@13Ambro Yes, I got the x3 in April before this video and do love it. I have a whole x3 playlist on my channel if you want to check out all my updates on that. Right now it's on sale for the price I got it for $399, which I think is fair considering what it would cost to make a high-quality setup (also made a video on that). If you do decide to pick one up, this link helps support the channel www.jdoqocy.com/click-100825257-13511487
Hey man. I’m interested in picking up one of the boards that your neighbor makes. I’m 5’6” and currently use a Circuit Size The Step for the extra 4” boost in height and early tension at the bottom. Would your neighbor be able to make something custom along those lines?
Thank you for the information! Do you still get the same results, in terms of muscle gain, with these cheaper set up as you would with the X3 system? Meaning, are there any differences in the way their bands stimulate muscles in comparison to rubberbanditz bands? I hope this makes sense. Great video!
There's a few variables to consider with your question (quality / longevity of the bar/bands,) but in general, if you got a decent pair of bands and a bar that will last, I think it just comes down to the effort you're putting in. Good practical question though!
The Amazon footplate hack didn’t work for me because the band sips out from under it. I did order the footplate from your neighbor to support small businesses.
I bought x3 footplate protector plastic molds on ebay (i dont know what theyre called, but you know how the x3 has edges that might potentialy damage the bands) Anyway they work well but i find that the band doesnt feel quite as good as if it was touching the metal edge directly. The tension is slightly different.
I still haven't really had any issues with my plate (at least the version I have). Also happy to report the paraforce bands are still looking good as new.
With lighter resistance bands for things like curls and such you can, however with heavier resistance bands the band force pulls your foot outward like a Vagus Foot position which will destabilize your footing and make it a lot easier to pull something in your back or neck when trying to stabilize yourself. This is especially prominent when trying to stand on bands barefoot when trying to train barefoot like outside. I stand on my lighter bands for curls, or lateral raises, etc with no issue, but once I reach a certain level of resistance I pull out my footplate to keep my feet firmly planted and my back stable for other banded lifts. I always encourage people to try it for themselves and you'll find out real fast with stronger resistance bands for deadlifts, bent over rows, overhead press, squats, etc.
Yes, I address that in the "do you need a footplate" section towards the end of the video. It's not really necessary unless you're using heavy bands, but even with simple stuff like curls, I still think it just feels better with a board.
@@jimperry4420 disagree it's a much more gym like user friendly experience with bar and plate. I wouldn't use bands without bars, plates, and handles. Unenjoyable. Especially for the strong. Simple physics class you can generate much more force
clench fitness said they are working on their own bar, have you talked to them about it? do you know what it looks like? i hope it works like the x3 bar. im tired of these carabiners i use with the innstar bar
Could be I had it stored in my garage. I did notice the paint starting chipping pretty fast, so possibly they improved their bars. I got mine early 2022.
@@hybridresistance I’ve had mine since 2021, but it’s not been stored outside , so use with a step and work great, also good with functional trainer. They also do one that screws together
You definitely could by a cheap barbell on amazon but that would kind of defeat the purpose brother. Bands would be stretched super wide, better just using a
Probably comes from someone who hasn't used it. Been using it for the last 2 years and it changed my life. (How within reach it is and how efficiently it delivers a "growth" stimulus) I spent my 20-30s wasting time in the gyms and was never as fit as I am now at 40. Diet and sleep also play a role of course. But your comments are complete gibberish coming from 0 experience with the product. Just putting this out there for people who might miss the opportunity to get healthier because of buffoons like yourself.
And another quick note for people reading: one can't look at how much the raw materials of something cost and call it expensive either (if that's a concern). It's the value that one gets out of the thing that determines whether it's expensive for that person or not. After all we aren't buying iphone's at cost, right? (:
