#gardening, #squarefootgardening,
I am excited to show you today how I designed a DIY Raised garden bed for you and me to enjoy this growing season. It is 37 1/2" tall and the inside is 4' wide x 4' wide. I say you, because I am here to help you get off your hands and knees and stand while gardening. Doesn't that sound amazing?
Another great thing about this garden bed is that you can grow tomatoes in it because it has a soil depth up to 16 inches. That gives plenty of room to grow all the types of vegetables.
I made a square foot grid that will help keep things organized and not waist any space so you can enjoy growing a lot in a small planter box. Square foot gardening is a great way to save time and resources and just make life easier while gardening.
It's made of redwood sides with cedar legs. Two materials that last long outside.
Here is a link to even more information about this planter box:

a common mistake i see in numerous of these garden beds ideas are that the load is often poorly carried throw the legs numerous times it is just held by screws into the leg and it is free hanging basically, you would get a much more proper way to carry the load if you take out a part of the 4x4 and have the frame rest on the outcut while it is screwed into leg this way the weight isnt resting on the screws
@Remodelaholic

Very true. It just makes the build more complicated for people. I was trying to simplify it. I used about 20 deck screws per corner. This table is really solid and has held up great during some really rainy storms. I do like the idea of better joints though. I think that would make another great way to build it for sure. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it.

Nice job.👍 I was surprised you didn’t use pocket screws on the interior cross brace to hide the screws. I want to build a few of these because I am not able to get down on my knees or bend over for long periods. These will make it easier and they look awesome. I will adapt it to pallet wood and salvaged lumber to save money.

And it was simple and straight to the point. Thank you! I am new to everything. I am planning a homestead and knowing these types of things will come in handy. Thank. @shaunmadness
@shaunmadness 3 года назад
Right on brother. I'm in the process of making two 2x2x2. But they will be sitting on casters because I'm doing dragon fruit and they need more of a tree-type container. And, the only space I have for them is on concrete. My idea is to use 4x4 posts because, as you know, it looks nice and it's more sturdy. You're the first person I could find using them. I was questioning how to do the bed and you confirmed and gave me confidence that my approach was headed in the right direction. I'm creating raised beds for my Dragon Fruit cuttings. It'll be my first time using a pocket drill so it'll be my at-home school project :) If I were to use your SFG I'd probably start with a variety of lettuce, kale, and spinach. Maybe use two spots for carrots. I've never grown those. Again, right on. great video. Thanks for the guidance and reassurance.

Very impressive garden box. I purchased your plans and am ready to start building, however, I want to double the size to 48" x 96". Should I drill the bottom boards in from the sides, rather than the bottom, for better support? Anything else I should modify before beginning?
