Please take this video down or put it behind a paywall… if my wife and her family see this I’m going to be very busy.. ha ha…. Seriously nice build. I like your take on this..!
My wife walked in and saw me watching this, sat down on the couch and actually got out a pen and paper and TOOK NOTES for a materials list. She then went to the bedroom, got on her YT account, looked up Matts channel and planned my next two weekends. I've only been watching Matt for a couple days. Really glad I found the channel but I'm afraid its gonna turn into a second job. Keep cranking out the videos Matt. Maybe I can use the builds as leverage....🤔
Last year I built a similar item with a twist. Instead of a shelf on the bottom, I built a plastic lined wood water tank. I then got a very inexpensive solar water pump (usually used for bird baths) and ran a tube through the flower bed on top. All day, the water pumps up into the flower bed and then drains back down into the tank. Largest and best blooms I have ever had.
These are really nice. My wife watched with me, and you have convinced her to say make these for me. Lol. I appreciate how you don’t edit out things like the broken drill bit. For us long time woodworkers (30+ years and I’m 64) we all have done this very same thing.
I watched this video then realized: I have enough spare wood that I saved from old projects to make this without spending a dime. I even had some old waste scraps of composite decking to use on the bottom of the box so it won’t rot out the bottom. Thank for this!
I saw another idea where they put PVC tube (cut lengthwise to serve as a water slide and out the side) across the middle shelf, then lined it so any water would drain to the tube and out, protecting the bottom shelf.
I enjoyed this build and built one for my wife. Now i have a few members of the family that want one. You should have a place where we can upload pics of the things we build with your help.
Thank you for your guidance and inspiration. Your words, not your videos have pushed me to JUST START BUILDING after a very long time of not knowing where to begin. Its been a year of learning and testing my equipment as I am new to wood working, but comfortabe with any type of new equipment. Safety First, Safety Second, Safety Third.. My first project is making planter boxes out of OLD SHUTTERS. Hope to share the build with others and give back. U.S. Marine retired.
Mr. Matt I found your videos and now I am hooked!! I am a woman who's a jack of all trades and Master of All. But after seeing your videos especially the one building the concrete coffee table I can't get much done in a day because your videos are so funny 😂 and you make woodworking look seamless. Thank you for the ideas, inspiration, and the Crack up laughs.
Matthew first of all I appreciate each and every one of your videos the most important I appreciate that you give everyone of your viewers the dimensions the sizes and also what's very important is that you're using glue and not just brad nails alone there's a lot of wannabe woodworkers on RU-vid who think just by building something with Brad nails it's going to last forever so I thank you for all your videos I do use some of your ideas and I improve them myself so thank you very much for all you do here on RU-vid videos you're one of a kind my man
I just took a picture of one of these i saw on a customers porch on Friday and was working out the build just before you dropped this video. Thanks for breaking it down Matt!
@@MatthewPeechWoodworking Thank you man, seeing your kids inspired mine & they always have new idea's... it's a beautiful bonding experience & we owe it to your video's so keep up the AWESOME WORK!!!!
Another awesome build and really appreciate you leaving in the things that can and most probably go wrong . Lol. Wife already saw the build and wanting a set now
Suggestion: At about 3:1`4 you go through marking the center on all four sides of the rail. I have found an easier way to do this. Use a test piece, mark one and if it is correct, put a stop block at the other end and then all four will come out at that same point (midpoint) just by rotating the rail. You can make all the "points" with just one setting of the stop block.
Dear Matthew, thank you so much for everything. Would you have a video on how you manage the hours in your day/week? As mind-expanding as I'm finding the woodworking world to be, I'm contemplating sort of ahead of time (as I'm not yet established) how to tackle the management of a) many and varied ongoing projects with b) time/money/motivation ebbs and flows, within the context of the demands of regular life, and was wondering if there's inspiration to be found in what a 'day in the life/week' looks like for someone like you! Thanks again! Sarah
Thanks for including the drill bit snappage. Feel your pain brother! Borrowing a line from my favorite rapper Akala, “Take shortcuts…get cut short. Long road, hard road but more sure.”
Those are some great looking planters. My wife has been after me to make some for her, and these will look great on the patio. I heard the sound of that bit breaking, and I feel your pain on that one
Been watching your videos a lot last little bit I hid surgery doing a lot better getting ready to try building a few things your videos help a lot keep up the good work
I built two of the large planters and it cost me $240.😢 I used pressure treated 2x8s for the frame, cedar fence pickets where the dirt is and free pine for the bottom shelf. I also added a shelf on the side at the top for a work surface. I built these for Mothers Day and my mom was over joyed with them. Thanks for the plans.
I love hearing you teach. It’s prompted me to choose your design and build one for my husband (Fathers Day) who likes to garden in the back yard but nothing looks pretty like these planters!
Made planters last year as one of my first projects. Now i want to remake them in this style lol. Or possibly the tiered one that goes against a wall. So many options!
Amazing! I build and sell a lot of your projects and I get tons of compliments on your designs! I can't wait to build this! Thank you so much for making these videos.
@@crippledcrippled Acrylic Latex based stain and sealer. Pick the brand and the color you like they are all about the same. For rough cedar a semi translucent works well. If you sand it down smooth a clear coat looks pretty cool.
Your insights and skills are impressive! I'm very glad I found your youtube place!! I've never had the type of mind skills you posess. I'm fully retired now and dispite health challenges am wanting to develop wood making skills to supplement my poor working mans retirement income. So thank for your abundant efforts to help others!! My miniscule budget forbids me being a patreon member though.
I really like your idea's as well as your work, im glad I came across your channel. I love wood working and you inspire me with new idea's. thank you..........
You never fail to deliver a fantastic video You so real and I can relate to your little build accidents Make the video so honest Tend to mess up when I rush I so need me a bigger shop so I can have a decent work bench Started the ground work for my new shop that I am going to build my self I have to watch your video on a new shop Haven’t gotten to that one yet So want to add me a pocket hole jig to my tools Saving for it but want to get a laser cutter first Anyway keep up the great videos
A workbench helps... but I've worked off of everything. Before spending your money on a laser cutter decide which one you could make your money back the fastest with.
@@MatthewPeechWoodworkingI haven’t even started making anything to sell yet so I have plenty of time to worry about the laser I keep putting it off I made a cheese tray and a set of stackable fruit boxes which I liked a lot I want to perfect the boxes cause they are different than any I have seen Having trouble getting them like I want them I want them to be as close to perfect as possible
Great project! Definitely will need to build one or two of these for myself. And I'll consider doing this when I retire to make some extra money (for more woodworking tools!)
this project looks great. i bought Matthews plans yesterday and made the first of the 3 planters. his plans are very detailed and easy to follow. the only thing i have done differently is cutting the 1/2"rabbits in the rails. i still get that puckering feeling every time i see the small cutoff left between the blade and the rip fence. thanks Matthew for all the work and effort. best wishes
I'm a big fan of the cedar and black trim look - very sharp. I have done the same thing with drill bits - in one case (I was so done that day) it became the screw. Good stuff Matthew!
Im dieing laughing here. I had to slow down the speed here so i could grasp what your saying and now you sound like you bombed outta your mind. 😂. Besides that. Thank you for all that you do. Your a true inspiration. Your videos are top notch and your paper plans are too.
As usual, these are nice and different. Have you ever considered thinking through a design for a chuck box/patrol box for kitchen items while camping? I have been trying to work through designs myself lately, but your designs are always very thoughtful and functional. BTW.... I built one of your obelisks in under an hour the first time I did it. Thanks for that; my wife loves it.
Keep them coming man!I. I really like this idea, The black makes the cedar pop. I would use cedar for everything,. Probably get some rough sawn 2 by material (which is 1¾ x 3¾) to rip the legs out of.
@MatthewPeechWoodworking, I am working on the 3 planters 2 benches and the 2 planters 1 bench. This will complete my set. Thank you for always putting out top quality and instructional videos. Happy Sunday.
Matt this is one of those builds that I just had to buy the plans for right away. Etsy for some reason won't let the plan for the teller planter download.
I’m not surprised that Kreg countersink bit broke on you. It’s junk, in my opinion. The one I have won’t stay together. Very disappointing. Every other Kreg application I have is dope. Really enjoy watching you. And you have motivated me to start working towards starting my own woodworking business.
Perfect “Mothers Day” project. It’s easy to just use a thick mil garbage bag/plastic liner stapled to the inside. Put a mulch layer down for the bottom 1/2 or so, top up with potting soil - not garden soil. Stick in a few herbs & geraniums, put a nice layer of mulch or sphagnum as the final layer.
These are awesome! I watched the video and built one for my wife who posted it on FB and now I have orders coming in but I don’t know what to charge for them. 😂
So you got jinxed by your camera man! Started when putting on you Mortal Combat mask. Then you dropped the boards. Bit came off, then broke! Dang camera man makes you nervous. This is all examples of what really happens sometimes in real life. Don’t forget the air compressor! Awesome build as always! Keep the mistakes as it makes you human and others see this and don’t get frustrated as bad because you did . Keep the builds and advice coming!
Just broke my drill bit off in the leg...if I hadn't seen you do it, I would have hung up my hammer forever...Thanks for showing your mistakes so we know what happens in the real world!! ❤
These are great (as always!). Any issue with the construction grade lumber rotting when exposed outdoors? Or does the paint help? 100% cedar would be lovely but expensive around here…
Great looking Garden Boxes. But . . . after you line the boxes where does the water go? Surely there has to be some way for the excess water to drain out?
Broke my Bosch #8 countersink/counterbore bit in my goat feeder, and #8 Bosch hinge bit installing shed door latch bolt pins above my head, both in pine by not being careful 🤦🏼♂️
