Omg. We have nearly the exact same car -same color and everything (mine is a 2015). I’m trying to build this over the weekend. This helps me IMMENSELY. 🙏🏼THANK YOU!!!! (All that I’m adding to it is legs so that I can have the storage underneath)
This just turned up in a search. I was looking at different suv's and it seems like the Escape is the most reasonably priced with decent mpg. Haven't bought one yet.
I really enjoyed this video I did a conversion in my friends escape we took it to Colorado from Utah worked nicely. I recently got a explorer looking to get it ready for this summer's travels. Can't wait to see more on your channel. 👍
That's awesome, man! I had an old Eddie Bauer Edition Explorer, which was an awesome adventure vehicle. (I ALSO took that to Utah and Colorado, and I have videos on my channel of that trip 👍) Going the Escape route for now to save some change. But that'll be a great ride for your trips! I can't wait to get back out there soon (hopefully) and start making more content again! If you liked this, you may like these, too. Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks! I still wanted the backseats to be functional, so it had to fold into the cargo area. Best of luck with the 2014! (Should be fairly similar, I believe!)
Sweet! Been trying to figure out how to do this with my escape! That bump between the trunk and the seats are very awkward. I did something similar today and ended up using boards to hold the head up cause I didn't wanna mess up my seat. Sometimes that end gets sat on while getting things in the car. I also found car carpet to carpet the entire thing and up on the sides so that my sleeping pad doesn't rub on the side of the car the whole night when my husband and I sleep in it
I was going to say the same thing, I have a 17 escape and that is our biggest problem currently with sleeping inside it, the offset from the backseats, was hoping he would address that
On the 2013 SE I have, there’s actually no significant bump or gradient. That’s why this works here. If there was, though, I would’ve added little wood risers on all four sides with maybe a support in the middle… or something like that lol
Thank you for sharing how you did this. I’m 6’ tall and have a Kia Sorento. I will only fit if I push the passenger seat forward. Having the option to fold back the head section will make it to where I can still have a passenger.
I actually just prop it up against the back of the front seats. I pull the front seats back once the head piece is in a good position, and the pressure keeps it in place. Supports would work, too, though 👍🏼
Nice video bro. Dude you don't need a platform. Your car folds flat not like my 2020 rav4. What you just need is a support on the second row head area..
No problem! Very cool - good luck! And it's great. I pop the hatch open sometimes, unfold it, and chill back there. Overnight sleeping is fine if you have blankets, sleeping bag, and/or a sleeping pad. Bug net is ideal if you pop the hatch open.
My seats don't fold down completely flat. But they're very close. I placed that hinge on the camping bed where the cargo area meets the back seats, which allows the bed to bend a little bit as necessary. If they don't fold completely flat, it *could* be fine. But it's so different for each vehicle, ya know.
How tall are You? you can perfectly laydown on that haha im debating on either getting an escape or an edge depending on the length behind the first row seats
I'm 6'2", and the bed is exactly 74 inches (or 6'2") hahahah. So it's perfect actually. But if you want more space in general, go Edge. I find the Escape is a bit too tight or not tall enough when I transport stuff. The 2013 Escape vs. the 2013 Edge, for example, is 8 inches shorter. But the Escape is great on gas mileage and gets the job done for car-camping. I'd say Escape is the absolute minimum for size, but it's functional. Plus, it has a three-prong outlet in the back, which is great for charging electronics while on the move. (At least on my 2013 SE.) The Edge may also be a little less rugged and more suburban. (My escape also has a roof rack and towing hitch.) Things to consider!
Totally fair. For me, I'm too tall, and the key was the headrest (utilizing the empty space between the back and front seats) and an even surface. I lay down a self-inflating camping pad and sleeping bags on top of the wood for comfort. My old Explorer was big enough to where I didn't need something like this. But I may also eventually elevate this to add storage beneath it. Maybe all that makes this seem less stupid? 😂
Cullan McNamara haha I get ya. I wasn’t hating or anything, just genuinely curious. I just got done making a platform for my escape and I highly recommend
@@davelittleton9802 how did you do yours? I’m new to this and could use help on exactly what to get, cut, build, do. Any information would be appreciated. I have a 2015 Escape.
So I have a 2010 ford escape. And this is probably the 4th video I've seen of people installing plywood. Whats wrong with just folding the seats down and blankets and pillows. ? Not trying to be rude
Honestly, you could just put a two-person inflatable bed in the back, and it would work just fine. My biggest issue is I'm 6'2" and needed the headrest attachment. Could just stuff a bunch of gear between the seats, but this was *slightly* more elegant and consistent solution. Nonetheless, yeah. Kinda silly 😂
