I used this video to build some gates ,Except I used a sliding miter chop saw to cut all the groves , they came out very nice and strong , the pocket screws really tied it together . Thank you
Another great video. I am making my odd sized date tomorrow. My fence is a t post fence and I have ordered t post hinge hardware. If that doesn’t work I will put wood posts at the gate. I am learning on the job for this one. Haha
I just use this and made an awesome gate for my dog pen. Training my dog to use the side yard only. I had some simple modification for a dog but thank you so much for doing this video!
Great idea for a light-weight fence! Though afa the threshhold idea: rabbits & smaller critters can jump, climb, and still enter anywhere else along your fence ;)
Thank you. There was a lot of space there. I put another piece of flexible plastic fencing there to solve that problem. It was the choice of fencing hinges that caused that issue.
Nice work Sir. Gotta say. I doubted your plan having failed at similar attempts multiple times myself, but you did it right for sure. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Nice idea with the smaller mesh at the bottom. I have seen guys do that, but they double it up and tie the two pieces together because that 1/2" stuff is so pliable and gets wrecked over time from all the closing and opening. Did you set anything beneath your bottom channel/threshold in order to prevent it from sinking/shifting over time? No packed gravel?
Thanks. The fencing has not worn out yet but when it does, it is easy to replace. I like the doubling over method. I will try that when I replace it. No gravel under the threshold. We have a heavy clay soil. It has not moved at all.
Hi there. Great build and you working with your daughter is just lovely to see. I'm going to be attempting my own diy gate build as well. I'm a bit anxious but what part of the hinge hardware are you measuring and then subtracting from to get the correct width of the gate? That would be super helpful. thanks.
Don't be anxious. You can do it. You'll have to purchase the specific hardware for yourself. Every store is going to have different things. Just find a hinge and a hinge pin that screws into your post. Screw in the hinge screw as far as you can so that the hinge will still swing freely on it. Put the hinge on a piece of scrap wood and then set the hinge (with scrap) on the hinge pin. Measure the gap. Subtract that from your overall door width.
OK which part was simple and easy. First most people dont have a table saw so can't make this joint you've made that is super sturdy. I would like to see this fence door done with more basic tools (no I'm not talking only hand tools but table saw is a bridge too far). Like a circular saw, impact driver and a drill.
Great video, but in my opinion there’s no need for the rabbit wire mesh at the bottom of the threshold if you leave only half inch gap at the bottom of the gate. Critters won’t be able to fit!
I just used a regular gate bolt and hinge for a tube gate. I bent the hinge out and bolted it to the wood frame. This is what I bought: amzn.to/2UTmIfE
I’m going to build a person-sized gate for my small pullet coop pen till I can move them in with the big girls. Tired of having to bend down to get in and scrape my back on the cut mesh ends!
