@@sandysimpson4785 Yup. Jonah Hill's full name is Jonah Hill Feldstein - same last name. A lot of actors register a different name than their own with SAG-AFTRA - either because someone's already registered their name (i.e. Emma Stone, who in fact goes by Emily) or because it may be too hard to remember or spell when first starting out. I'm guessing it's the latter for him.
@Vita Morris every once in a while when people commented on actor's performance, there will always be this kind of stupid reply. I am not an actor, therefore i might be worse than her speaking with that accent, but that doesnt mean i have to worship her for everything she does, dumbass.
@@procekim how can you tell someone that certain films is not for them? you dont even know me. This is the kind of films i always go to. Hence, why i'm here. I'm just stating my opinion about her accent in this. Idk what burkay-ish means
Robert John idk, Joanna was a lot like me and I’ve always been the "outcast". She was just trying to figure shit out, her journey was really inspiring to me
lilyhath they really should cast someone who was at least from the uk, it’s like she can’t make up her mind between Dublin and London, not to mention you can hear the American
I’ve never seen this actress before until last night when my daughter and I binge watched What We Do in the Shadows last night. I think she is absolutely adorable lol.
I would say American TV and "Hollywood" movies are grossly over-populated with non-Americans, but I am fine with that and love all actors and their craft. This sounds like a YOU problem and not about the actress herself. Which I personally adore her other most recent comedy too.
Oh, he will be noticed more and more for the rest of his life, I'm sure becase he's so good. But see Jojo Rabbit, it's a small but memorable part and a good movie. He's been in Harlots season 3, and British crime show White House Farm Murders. But I'm looking forward to this movie in particular. It sucks that this will be a VOD release and not a theater one because every review I've seen mentions that he's both very good and extremely charming in this. :)
When a put-on accent isn't very good, I always wonder if they bothered to use an accent coach? I mean, look at Andrew Lincoln from Walking Dead, he used an accent coach, and he nailed the Southern accent. Obviously, some people have a better ear for accents than others, but a lot of actors just don't use an accent coach when they should.
I can't believe the British crew on this listened to her in rehearsals, and thought that sounds okay. The writer's from Wolverhampton, and she thought it sounded right?
@@chloekacperski1081 That makes it worse, if she actually shadowed life in Wolverhampton, and this is what came out of it. I thought she was just working from bad direction.
@@emmacassady4518 And that's why you don't cast someone who's wrong for the role. I could understand it (although not agree) if it was because she was a big name, but when this was filmed Booksmart hadn't come out, and a supporting part in an Indie film (Lady Bird) doesn't qualify you as someone who can sell a film. Speaking of Lady Bird, should have got Saoirse Ronan, she can do any accent well.
Amazing quotes awaits in the movie, and the imagination and attitude of her character really pays up, as a classic writer's movie, in the end you even get okay with her accent
Can't wait. Not a bad attempt at a Wolves accent given that Beanie Feldstein is American and most Brits can't even pull that accent off. More importantly she's a brilliant actress and perfect for this role. Yes, they could have gone with Helen Monks who (brilliantly) plays the young Caitlin Moran in Raised by Wolves, and nails the accent because she's Brummie. But there are more important things than accents.
Helen is probably too old now because she was basically playing 15 in series 1 of Raised by Wolves. I've seen the clips they are using in America and I think Beanie just has more star power. It might get confusing having Helen play Germaine and Caitlin, but I would have liked to see her to be honest.
@@Char10tti3 I think the two actresses are about the same age actually, but I agree that Beanie's star power is why they cast her. And she is fantastic, it will be worth a slightly shaky accent for everything else she brings to the role.
@@jtuck35 Not a bad attempt. It sounds nothing like the region, let alone the place. What accent were her coaches teaching her? Also, does she have star power? She was co lead in Booksmart, and that was released when this filmed. I'm puzzled as to her casting. Normally you get an American star to sell internationally, not just any American.
@@davidjames579 Star power in comparison to anyone else who was likely to be accessible for a film like this, especially in terms of hitting the US market. Booksmart is an ideal CV (she was also the best friend in Lady Bird), since this is also a coming-of-age comedy about a bright but unorthodox teenage girl. She basically signposts what this film is for US audiences who wouldn't otherwise know what to make of this slightly bewildering kaleidoscope of Britpop references. As for the accent, you'll note that I said 'not a bad attempt'... and then some other conditional stuff which you ignored. I doubt you'll find a US actor out there who can actually pull off a Wolvo accent. This is better than I would have expected.
@@jtuck35 "Star power in comparison to anyone else who was likely to be accessible for a film like this". That's not accurate, there's loads of British actresses of the right age range who are more well known than she is. She didn't have star power at the time as Booksmart was just releasing (which wasn't sold on names) and a supporting role in an Indie film doesn't count as fame. Not a bad attempt? Except it is a bad attempt. You're ignoring what I said. The conditional stuff is irreverent as I'm not discussing her acting ability, I'm questioning her casting, esp in light of her inability to do a consistent accent, let alone one that resembles Midlands.
Everyone’s calling her accent Irish. It doesn’t sound Irish. It does however sound like the bad American actors version of an Irish accent seen in countless movies/ tv shows. So, you can’t blame people for thinking it sounds irish.
I saw this at tiff and it was incredible, the trailer doesn’t really do it justice. Give it a shot guys beanie is phenomenal in this and so is alfie allen!!
She is adorable! I don't know about her accent though I know dialect coaches should always be utilized in these films. I'm from the US and when I hear an actor who probably never set foot in the deep south try to do an all inclusive "southern accent" it curls my damn hair!
I only recognize 5 accents from the UK: - Michael Caine - Jason Statham in Guy Ritchie's films - Connor Mcgregor's irish accent - Sean Connery - Cumberbatch
@@danpenia219 So you recognise 3 UK accents, as Ireland is not part of the UK... Michael Caine - Cockey (London) Jason Statham - Cockney (London) Benedict Cumberbatch - RP (London) Sean Connery - Edinburgh Conor McGregor - Dublin
Hold up do you know how many Americans characters are played by British actors? It doesn’t matter where the actor is from as long as they do a good job and fit the part.
... if, you wrote those few lines, well, I damn respect you, they are short, and succinct, and hit the nail squarely. Imagine that continuously, now that, that's a wonderful thing~
@@Carol-sn2pz Thanks!!! I can actually wrigth in English but I was on my phone when I did the coment and is hell with the autocorrect in Spanish, you are great
@@davidjames579 of course she did!! She had training and lived and worked there. If you don't like it, that's fair, but you can't say she didn't try. accents are hard!
@@mysticwood8586 She may have done what she was told to by her coach, but she didn't try. The results show this, it's nowhere near Black Country. Either she had bad couching or she's rubbish. Or both. Her casting is still a mystery. She's not a star, so why sacrifice the role on her?
I've been looking forward to Beanie's performance as she spent time in the city learning the accent. But sad to say I am disappointed. I think she should have spent time going around the region like Bilston Market, Dudley Hight Street or even venturing deeper into the Black Country like Tipton or Netherton.
To someone who’s not from the UK but spends quite a lot of time watching British films, tv and RU-vid my best guess based on this trailer would be that she was imitating an Irish accent and doing a bad job at that so I don’t even want to know how bad of a job she’s really doing with her accent
