Huh? The trailer pretty much laid it all out there. This is a movie about a Weinstein analog with a plucky heroine determined to bring him down. I am not sure what you think was not given away.
@@glenbe4026 Thank you. I have worked in most industry jobs, film included. There is nothing new under the sun... or maybe there is... this film is blowing smoke.
Yeah, if it weren't that the only way the film conveys pity towards the female protagonist is by being condescending towards all men in the film (and I mean all. I could not find ONE man in the whole film that was not depicted as evil and at fault for her misery). I hope all the women out there get to enjoy it.
Just saw this movie and I love it. It is one of those where nothing happens and everything happens. I loved the little office conversations and the the other officesounds- water cooler, opening packages, silent elevator. It really captures how it feels to be in an environment like that- especially when you're young. So happy not to be there now
@@DG-vn9sl I worked for years in a creative field but in the admin part- just like the character. 'Cause you're supposed to do what you love, right? Those environments were toxic and unprofessional- because they could be; they had no accountability. I then switched to working in fields with little/no emotional attachment to the companies. I am so much happier and work on my interests on the side- since I now have the time and energy to do it!
@@DG-vn9sl Do it! I don't know where you are but in the U.S., there are so many openings right now. It's okay to go to a job that you're not sure about. When I made the change, I took a kind of boring job but with good people and took time there to figure out what I wanted to do next.
Bernelee Swart No the reality is that nothing actually takes place. The trailer is all suspense and buildup whereas the actual film doesn’t go anywhere. Just saw it at Sundance and it was boring, repetitive, and useless. Don’t waste your money.
anyone reading the comments, don't listen to the haters; if your attention span is minimally developed and you appreciate flawless storytelling you will like it
@@kiaraogle3486 No, I absolutely get it but thanks for making a personal attack by telling me that I don't get it. Feel free to watch it over and over.
Loved this movie. Really appreciated the simple yet powerful messages. What I appreciated the most is that with all the education she has, at the end of the day, on the job experiences let you down. Even when you’re trying to do the right thing.
Discrimination is everywhere. Happens in the most subtle and high-end ways. Yes. It still exists. She is the perfect example of the invisible person who notices.
Was literally about to comment the same thing. This trailer was 100x better than the movie. I’ve never seen a movie as boring, disappointing and pointless as this film.
I like this movie, I get why some people hate this movie for it being "too realistic", but I think that what makes this movie interesting and great. If you're looking for an action movie then this is not for you, if you're looking for a realistic, tense and intriguing story then this is for you.
Srsly, this is so typical. It looks good, tho. When I gave them my two weeks notice, they waited three days and then fired me. I worked for the president of the company who was a total narcissist, and he couldn't stand my "betrayal" and disloyalty by not wanting to work for his toxic ass any longer. The joke was on him though, because I went straight to the unemployment office and filed a claim, and he had to pay for my unemployment for the next six months (I got an extension on purpose, lol). If he had let me quit as I had originally done, he wouldn't have been responsible for paying my unemployment. But he'd never had anyone quit before and he didn't know the rules. Most people were too afraid to quit.
Why make a good film, when you can get awards for portraying men as (alleged) evil "manspaliners", who (of course) are not good in their jobs. It's ludicrous...
I’ve so been there working as an executive assistant in an office, I sympathize. It’s a thankless job where people walk all over you and there’s no one you can talk to because the ones who are supposed to be there to support you end up being just a bunch of corporate suck up aholes. Thought the movie could have gone on, ended a bit abruptly for me but maybe there will be a part 2.
This is the kind of movie that will make you feel uneasy throughout. You will be on an edge anticipating something to happen but that is the whole point. There is a slight unease or discomfort throughout the film. It highlights a toxic work environment which takes a toll on her, but it is not enough to be reported. I liked the movie, perhaps because I empathized with the protagonist.
FINALLY! I really liked the movie but I’ve only been seeing people hate on it. I just wish people would be more open minded abt it. It breaks my heart to see that this good movie is being shat on by people who just don’t get it.
That scene with Matthew Macfadyen was masterclass acting. Aside from that, there's no much else I can say about this movie. It could've easily be condensed into a great 30/40 minute short film instead of dragging out for 80 minutes.
Hi here to be the buzzkill. Simple google search. "Jane, a recent college graduate and aspiring film producer, just landed her dream job as a junior assistant to a powerful entertainment mogul. Her day is much like any other assistant -- making coffee, ordering lunch, arranging travel accommodations and taking phone messages. But as Jane follows her daily routine, she grows increasingly aware of the abuse that insidiously colors every aspect of her workday, an accumulation of degradations against which she decides to take a stand."
Yes! Most trailers show the whole movie in 2 minutes. I remember being so mad when I went to see Something Borrowed, because I realized the kiss in the last two minutes of the movie was shown in the trailer. So the whole movie you know who she's going to end up with because it was in the trailer. So these sorts are soooo much better! :)
I get the feeling this isn't just about harassment, but how the corporate world works. Everything is calculated and everyone is playing chess, and you better not stay a pawn long.
Aaaaaaaaand I still have no idea what this movie is about. Edit: People, I'm not actually asking what the movie is about. My point is that after the trailer I still have no idea what the movie about.
Noticing the shady garbage that happens behind the scenes in an office but feeling like you can’t say anything because everyone already knows what’s going on. Everyone knows but they either don’t care or are too scared to say anything. As a woman in an entry level position at a big company full primarily of men, it’s extremely eerie.
I think it’s gonna be an awesome movie 🍿 and Julia Garner is a good actress, she was a character in the tv show the Americans and I loved her....thanks for sharing!👍👍💕😍🙋🏼♀️🇨🇦
*THIS IS REAL CORPORATE LIFE* This is a great movie💯. I loved every bit of it. It sure touched corporate life very swiftly. It felt like there was no protagonist, so you wouldn't be able to guess what happens later on. It's realistic.
It’s so great to finally see comments from people who get and appreciate the film. It’s really good, it’s just different. I bet more people would like it if they changed their expectations.
PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU WATCH THE MOVIE!!!!!!!!! It’s really good, but it’s very different. It’s slow, quiet, subtle, repetitive. But that’s THE POINT. I’ve seen so many people shit on this movie just because they didn’t get it and I bet more people would like it if they changed their expectations. It’s literally a day in the life of an assistant. Nothing exciting here. It depicts a toxic work environment and the cinematography, sound design and acting was very well executed. Please give this movie a chance and please change your expectations.
Plot synopsis: Girl works at office. Boss sleeps with many women. Girl goes to HR to report boss. HR says don’t report. Girl goes back to office, turns off the lights, and stares at her muffin. The end.
*SPOILER ALERT* -- It was more than sleeping with women. She (the assistant) thought a girl was very young. I don't know if the girl was under 18 but she was concerned that her boss was sleeping with a young, maybe underage girl, moving her from out of state, if I recall correctly, putting her up in a hotel and giving her a job at his company. Seems like it's something that happened often and was known amongst certain people in the company, including HR.
Oh it was, everything you will see in the movie was already shown in the the trailer. It's just padded out to make 1:20 minutes seem like an entire week.
Miluju tenhle film. Velké drama, které se odehrává v absolutním tichu, skutečný život a nesplněné představy a sny mladé ženy. Po celý film jsem skoro nedýchala ❤😮
It was a slow movie, slice of life, literally. But when stuff like this happens, you don't always get fireworks and drama, you have to make decisions and live life. Nice change of pace moviewise.
Oh my, I just might be down for this one! The trailer was very well put together! Small details but just the right amount to grab the attention of the audience.
this movie was actually flawless. don't say that about too much i see these days. julia garner anchors with a razor-sharp lead performance but the supporting cast, esp. matthew macfadyen, is equally strong. the writing is pitched precisely and authentically, the production as a whole claustrophobic. also, the cinematography i found astoundingly good. overall it's not quite my favorite movie ever but i walked away from it thinking it was exactly everything it hoped itself to be simply due to the top of the line work from cast, crew, and creative team. i would recommend it to anyone.
Christian Soldier maybe as a cover, maybe to launder more money. Wherever she’s at, I bet money is involved. I’m looking forward to watching this movie.
She was great in ozark. Glad to see she can carry a movie. Huge career for her if she plays her cards right. This looks like a good start. Hope she stays away from any of the dreaded Hollywood remakes.
THERE IS LITERALLY NO STORY LINE!! IT ENDS AS IT STARTS!! This trailer IS the movie!! Watching this movie is like having no milk, no sugar & no coffee in your coffee!!
Just finished watching this movie on HBO and I was disappointed. I hung in there for 1 hour and 28 minutes, hoping it was actually going to go somewhere. When Jane goes to HR to report her suspicions about the pretty new girl at the hotel, dealings with HR during my secretarial career flooded back. Within the hour, her co-workers and her boss knew she had been to visit HR. As my daughter used to tell me, who worked in HR, "HR is not your friend." That was a great takeaway for anyone who doesn't know that yet. As for Jane I was hoping she would take a stand and quit. But the reality is, she needs a job. She has goals. So she has to learn how to take it, absorb how things really are, blend in, assimilate, and as my friend Janie, a secretary to executives, used to tell me, "See it and don't see it."
