This should be called how not to build a hang glider. But I did enjoy your good time lapse build. I haven't built a glider yet but I am inspired by your drive to accomplish. PVC is a good material. Possibly design and manufacturing improvements may increase the performance and handling. I to have considered PVC. Think in terms of an equalater triangle with a center support of equal length to sides of the triangle which sticks out in the back creating the tail. The wing shape on the trailing edge should look like the "McDonald's arches". The fabric is a square. This is the basic design and geometry of the original hang glider. The sixty degree angles can be created by joining each of the outside corners of the triangle with two 90 degree elbow joints. My design uses two center supports (upper and lower) attaching at the nose and creating the tail can all be joined using 90 elbow joints. There are more details of the design I have in my head, I can give more detail on. It might be difficult to visualize. So go to the hardware store and get six 90 degree elbow joints (3 female:female; 3 male: female) and three pieces of pipe. You will quickly see how to make a triangle using 90 degree elbow joints.
I have a feeling this energy is being drained out of you. Make sure you preserve a little of that upbeat, positive, wholesome vibe/mojo for the future man
You ever plan or revisiting this? It’s pretty awesome, and definitely had an affect on your fall, but I spotted some easy ways to improve it right off the bat. I kinda wanna make my own, which sounds impossible and insane, but that’s also what my friends thought when I told them I was gonna make a co2 powered grappling gun, which I successfully did. I use it to help me get onto hard to climb buildings at night time, and recently I haven’t been able to shake the thought of gliding off those buildings. I feel like if I really wanted to I could find a way. I can do thing’s remarkably when I really have a strong desire to. Maybe I’ll get to researching and making a glider one day, but I’d probably not use it off of buildings over 2 stories.
@CommonHouseSpider @⃟⃝⃟ thank you! The original was just pvc pipe and a plastic sheet duct taped onto it. The second one I made was wooden, and I made a triangular skeleton and added a control bar like a steering wheel and a harness to strap into it.
