The videos from buying the HDT throughout the build process are showing everyone how simple (relatively speaking) this process actually is... and how it doesn’t need/have to be overwhelming. Thank you!!

I haven't quite figured out why all these RV hauler trucks need a big heavy bed. A platform for the SMART car would suffice.

nice work and thanks for sharing. I do encourage you both to wear eye protection while grinding metal. I spent a very painful night in the ER after grinding with just my eye glasses when a piece of metal found it's way into my eye. No lasting damage thank goodness, but sure made me realize that little pieces of metal go everywhere when grinding. Take care!
@JonesN2Travel

Hi Alan. You are 100% correct. I did use eye protection just not in every shot so that's my bad. So glad to hear that you came out without serious injury. Thanks for the tip and concern :) Safe Travels

What were all your mounting locations for attaching the deck to the original frame...I believe I saw brackets on 4 corners of the original 5th wheel slider deck...where else did you attach? What did you use to isolate the deck from the frame...I've heard of folks using hockey pucks!
@JonesN2Travel
@JonesN2Travel 2 года назад
Hi Dan, We attached it in two places up front, bolted to the side of the frame, on the sides by the original fifth wheel attachment point and twice in the rear, attached to the sides of the frame. 6 attachemnt points in total. We did not isolate it from the frame. Safe Travels

Where did you buy your truck rails
@bennystafford7738
@bennystafford7738 3 года назад
Aron - Awesome work. I think I saw the main frame channels as 3 1.2" x 3/16" Sq.Tubing. What are you using for the deck frame? 3" x 3/16" Sq Tubing? It also looks like you have a box area behind each rear tires, what is that for? Thanks. I hope to be doing the same this time next year. I also plan on doing myself. Keep up the good work.
@JonesN2Travel
@JonesN2Travel 3 года назад
Hey Benny. We used 4" x 4" schedule 40 (that may be 3/16, not sure) tubing for the main rails down the length of the frame and then 2.5" x 2.5" schedule 40 tubing for all the cross pieces. Those box areas are tool boxes that we lined with 14 gauge steel sheet and then we seamed sealed them from the inside to make them weather tight. We ended up covering that in 3/16 diamond plate you'll see in one of the next episodes. Congrats on your upcoming build. Thanks for your encouragement too, I appreciate it. Stay tuned for more. Safe Travels

the end of the bed is not to long is when you attempt tight turns?
@JonesN2Travel
@JonesN2Travel 3 года назад
No, the RV has about 80 inches from the pin to the front of the trailer so no clearance issues. :) Thanks for checking out the video. Safe Travels

@@JonesN2Travel Sure will...we live your videos...we are currently debating between a large Class A diesel pusher or a bigger 5th with a HDT. We have 2 x 100 lbs labs so have to consider how they will travel on move days and once at a site.
@JonesN2Travel
@JonesN2Travel 3 года назад
@@dankarau2307 Thank you so much for that. We appreciate you following along. We talked long and hard about getting a motor coach but we really love fifth wheels because of the ceiling height and overall there's just more space. So instead we decided to get an HDT for the safety and now we can tow as large a fifth wheel as we want :) Its a tough decision but you'll get it lol Thanks again. Safe Travels
