@@striketochill I build everything by myself. My husband is not very handy. As stated, because he is visual, I will be able to show my husband this video to provide the visual to what I have been verbally describing. I don't want to show it to him so he can build it for me just so he can see what I've been talking about.

Love the flexibility of this design. Not only will it support a plastic sheet and keep chickens enclosed, it could support a burlap cover for heat sensitive plants you want to keep in partial shade. I have a problem with cats using my beds as a litter box. Keeps cats and critters out. Genius.

This design is way better than one of the other ones I was getting ready to build. It's time for me to plant my fall crops and I want to build something to keep the bugs from eating up my greens. I plan on using the hardware cloth in addition to tulle cloth. This will be a game changer! Thank you so much for sharing.

This is awesome! Only thing I would change is I’d put an opening on one side as I imagine reaching down from the top to pick the lowest strawberries might be more difficult

Can you do this for a 30” garden bed I have on my porch it’s a lifted off the ground planter 20x30 or so just build on top? And do same thing, add the plastic on top for not to much sun?
@az55544
@az55544 Год назад
If you want to save a bit of ( 8') lumber/cash, instead of building out seperate side panels, simply build out a single frame of the sides and non-moving top. Additionally, you will need fewer cuts in the hardware cloth (a beast) if you bend it on a counter before attaching to the pared down frame. Individual side panels are an overbuild as this frame carries no weight. I have built such a frame with 1x2" all around. Also, the bed measurement is external, not internal.
@Fletcher91
@Fletcher91 5 месяцев назад
FYI construction lumber also has different lengths than the name. When it's cheap, tolerance will be low.

I've been thinking about making something like this for my strawberry bed, to keep squirrels, birds and rabbits out. But, I also don't want to make it harder for pollinators to get to the blossoms. Anyone know what size opening in the wire mesh is large enough for bees, etc. to fly freely through?

When it comes to frames and tanks. The measurement is never of the inside it's always including the width of the framing.

That's quite a reach to get to the soil unless you take the whole thing off entirely..
@itsbreellis

I can touch the soil and harvest just fine! I do take it off when doing any kind of amending or a lot of weeding. It would be easy to make it shorter to your desired height!

I'm wondering about putting a solid panel on top, splitting the two sides lengthwise, and hinging the top half of each side so that your access would be from the side instead of the top.
