How to build a hydrogen car.
In this video I show the modifications needed to convert a petrol car engine to run on hydrogen gas.
This project was built to a tight budget to see how cheap we can build a hydrogen combustion car, resulting is an exhaust carbon free car, sadly the efficiency and power is poor, but this is due to the parts used and being home built.
A professional engine builder or manufacturer could massively improve on this and create something much better.
Hope this video is helpful for all who are interested.

Watching with big interesst as Im in a which produces PEM electrolyszer Stacks for hydrogenproduction. 🙂 Keep on mate 💪🏻

That’s ace! Thankyou for the support. PEM stacks can be used to create pure hydrogen at one output and pure oxygen at the other right?

For power sake, the made a D4F engine with turbo, soo if you find one its pretty much a straight swap

That would be perfect! When running hydrogen with port injection forced induction is needed to get back some of the lost power. Thanks for the info

Ah, i thought you'd have to use a direct injection system. Good info mate.

Direct injection would be a lot better, but port injection still works. Glad you found it helpful

Not bad actually, but I noticed you said hydrogen was expensive, why not use solar and water electrolysis. Granted the solar panels aren't particularly cheap but no inverter needed it's a DC supply. Then make more of these engines and sell them.

You can also use urea and ammonia to produce Hydrogen 👍

It’s an ace idea, this car runs on pure hydrogen though, so the electrolysis machine would have to output pure hydrogen and pressurise it to 150bar or so, that’s where it gets tricky. No impossible by any means

Would an external oil/water separator setup benefit the build or reduce the oil contamination issue any?
@Hydrogenguys
@Hydrogenguys 2 дня назад
Maybe, I use an oil catch can which helps a lot

Instead of pressurizing the hydrogen, could you use a very efficient electrolysis hydrogen/oxygen generator? Is there a reason it needs to be pressurized?

Keeps it dense, storing hydrogen gas is extremely difficult. It defuses through and/or embrittles just about anything it touches, after awhile. Not to mention, as mentioned in the video, its a very sparse gas, not dense. If you just pumped to atmospheric, there wouldn't be very much there. Liquid would be much better but the system for that would be far more complex and expensive.

I'm curious why you say the engine won't last? Is hydrogen combustion especially hard on engines?
@Hydrogenguys
@Hydrogenguys 4 дня назад
Hydrogen can produce a lot more heat than petrol, and more friction as hydrogen is a non lubricant, as this engine was designed for petrol, it’s safe to say the piston rings and sleeves won’t last as long as they would on petrol. These are issues that are solvable if the engine was designed for hydrogen in the first place. Hope this answers your question.

You can estimate how much is the litre per 100 kilometres if possible?

This fuel tank doesn’t last long at all, too small really, I will upload a video about this next Monday hopefully, think I may have mentioned it in the previous hydrogen car video

@@Hydrogenguys Maybe if you change the AFR by putting more air and less hydrogen at low speed and high speed you leave the same volume of hydrogen you have but more air might be better because you will consume less and more power
@Milaang09
@Milaang09 13 часов назад
@@Hydrogenguys Or if you can change the AFR by putting more air and less hydrogen when you press the accelerator from 0% to 50% and from 50% to 100% you leave the same volume of hydrogen that you have but a little more air and the ideal would be to leave the same volume of air and less hydrogen from 0% to 25% of the accelerator and from 25% to 50% you put a little less hydrogen than you normally have and more air than you normally have and from 50% to 70% you put a little more hydrogen and more air and from 70% to 100% you put more hydrogen and more air I think you have a bigger power and you will consume less

A coulle of things. Why do you run a rich mixture
@Hydrogenguys
@Hydrogenguys 3 дня назад
Cooling and complexity, as hydrogen is a gas’s it occupies much more of the cylinder then a liquid fuel, meaning less oxygen than normal resulting in a rich mixture, the car needs to be direct fuel injected or forced inducted via supercharger or turbocharger to overcome this. The rich fuel mixture also reduces engine heat, hope this helps :)
