Watch out, buying from Daley's Nursery, Diggers, Green Harvest etc can become addictive 😅 Nice Build. Did you not wash the scoria because of the drainage holes?

Cut the pipe lengthwise into 2 equal parts tie with rubber bands put in the centre a deformed bar and filled with concrete. Use that as a mould to make many pipes then they will be strong and the dragon fruit will hold better to them. Plant 4 cuttings on each side different varieties to avoid pollination problems

You gotta grow figs mate. I am growing about 50 varieties in sub irrigated planters, but going to try a RGG system next. Love the channel.

Hello, in Vietnam, given the price 2$/kg it is not very interesting for an individual to grow it. There are two kinds of dragon fruit, one with white flesh and the other with red flesh. Have you planted both kinds?

I am doing soil growing when mine arrives, but super keen to see how this goes. Most people in the soil get it to the top of the support and get most of the fruiting branches done within a year or so, wonder if the hydroponic ones will be the same or faster.

I honestly have no idea what to expect. None of the information I could find gave me a definitive answer on growth in a hydroponic environment.

Woohoo another video, been patiently waiting. Just brought a massive hydroponic system on gumtree over the weekend for $50 took 2 car trailer loads 2 ute tray loads to bring it home. Have to build my shade house and then its all going up. Keep up the good work, would be interested to know your opinion for organic nutrients? Thanks

Hi, great content. In the definitive set up will you feed them with 2500uS ec? Won't u risk salt built up or other salinity problems? Thanks a lot
@Hoocho
@Hoocho 3 года назад
I've got another system planned where I will be using low nutrient levels, so I'll probably keep the levels low in this system. 1.0 - 1.5 EC

Great video Hoocho! I guess Growing Dragon Fruit Hydroponically Part 2 will show you placing caps on the top of the 100mm PVC pipes to bend the cacti over & stop the rain filling up your rain gutters?
@Hoocho
@Hoocho 3 года назад
With the area of the top being 0.0078540m2 it would take 100mm of rain to fill the res 0.79L. I’m not too worried 😂

Hi mate. Have you tried earthing hydroponic plants? A neighbour of mine really believes in earthing his system and says the plants grow stronger. He recommended to just stick a copper wire from the ground to the reservoir. Haven't really heard of it before. Thought maybe you have hope the dragon fruit goes well 👍.
@MultiSoftE

Wouldn’t recommend you are adding a charge to your nutrients which could cause them to bind out

When you root df.. dont put them in the dirt so far.. only need 1/2 inch at the most. you can even root in water.

You should raise the pots to about head height and remove the supports altogether. dragon fruit plants only produce fruit when the stems grow downwards. Growing up the supports is just a waste of time.
@Hoocho
@Hoocho 3 года назад
I would have to raise the height of the gutter, and therefore the res that gravity feeds them, this would require a lot of extra infrastructure. This system is meant to be long term and passive. I am patient. Your idea would be more cost effective in an NFT or Dutch Bucket style structure though. Which is interesting.
@matthewfarrell317
@matthewfarrell317 3 года назад
There is a reason this way of growing, up a post, is popular, for most people balancing a pot or bucket up that high is silly and sometimes dangerous. It limits your access to the soil. Sometimes a year or two in training a plant is better than trying to rush fruit.

"We get fairly cold winters but rarely dips below zero“. I live in Sweden and we rarely get below zero in our summers, even if we had that just yesterday 😅 If rarely below zero is fairly cold we definitely don't have it fair here where we rarely get below -30C...

When I was editing, I thought: “Hmmm some people are gunna think ‘that’s not cold’” Hahah

@@Hoocho I envy you climate for growing but I would miss the winters here that actually is my favorite season even if I'm happy every year when spring comes after 4-6 months of winter with up to 2 meter snow (some few years we had a lot more) but I'm equally happy when the cold returns. It must be a impossible to understand how someone freely live where I do 😀 We actually have towns high in elevation that don't have summers every year, with the definition of 7 days in a row with average temperature above 10C.
@Hoocho
@Hoocho 3 года назад
@@henrik.norberg I kind of do understand as I experienced the opposite when I lived on the coast. We never really even experienced seasons. When I moved to where I am now we actually had some form of winter (even if mild) and I’ve enjoyed every second. Actually thinking of moving to Tasmania after a recent holiday for the experience of a cooler climb!
@henrik.norberg
@henrik.norberg 3 года назад
@@Hoocho Oh btw, it is the other way around too. What I think is hot you laugh at, as I'm suffering badly when it is 30C. Immigrants from Africa have multiple layers of winter clothes even indoor in winter first year when they arrive here. So yeah they are freezing like crazy when I literally have only short sleeved t-shirt on. For me -10C in t-shirt is fine for 10 minutes or so 😀 Humans are fantastic at adopting to different climates. Btw. Love your experiments, the successful as well as the failed ones! Learning by failing is the best way of learning!

My Mrs friend husband purchased a dragon fruit farm 5 acres in The Glasshouse mountains a couple years ago. Not using the whole 5 He making 50k a year as a side business. Selling on Facebook marketplace. I asked him once why I don't get any fruit of my plants. His arrogant reply was if I got a dollar for every time someone ask me that, I would be rich.
