How to build a keezer/kegerator

Here's a video I shot while building a new keezer, a kegerator from a chest freezer. It was pretty easy to build and took about 6 hours from start to finish (and that includes a run to the store for more spray paint).

I like the fact that you are a regular guy like most of us and the video could have been of any of us building this. No hiding or editing errors or slight mis-steps. When I build mine its gonna be just about like yours. As time has passed what would you change/modify if you would do it again? My thought is some type of drip catcher, im not the tidiest person and I can see some overfills in my future. Thanks for sharing the experience.

I appreciate that. I’d like to think that this is my hobby, so nothing is perfect. If I were to do this again I’d certainly over-buy supplies, which I mentioned. Other than that, for me, I’m satisfied with the results.

Great video. If you had a smaller Co2 tank and mounted on shhorter side could you fit 3 kegs(5 gallon) in there? Also any reason you used 2 x4s and not 2 x6 or 2x8? But thanks again

Yes I could fot 3 kegs in there. At some point I plan on taking the tank out and running a line from another room. I put it in there because of the limited space I was putting the keezer in. For that same reason, I used 2x4s rather than wide/taller pieces of lumber.

Lots of debate online - liquid nails vs gorilla glue vs 100% silicone - why did you choose liquid nails? I -THINK- the tube says not for polycarbonates and some other plastics? (Not sure which adhesive I was looking at, but one said it outgassed methyl alcohols which cause blindness.) I'm ready to stick my keezer collar onto my freezer, so I am researching! Thanks for sharing your build...CHEERS!

The adhesive mentioned it held on plastic and wood. That was good enough for me. I've used similar products on my past 3 builds and the glue has outlasted the compressor.

So this is a 5.1 cf chest? If so, how many kegs can you get in there without the co2 tank? Also with.

I have three 5 gallon kegs in there as well as a 2.5 gallon keg resting above the compressor.

what keeps your beer from freezing?

I have inkbird temperature controller installed. I hang it on the outside and the probe goes in that little hole drilled into the collar (by the hinges) Edit - typo

What do you have the freezer temp know set at when using your temp controller?

The term lager is German for cellar. Cellar temps range from low 40s to mid-50s. That’s where the beer tastes best. Unless you’re talking about ice beer, that crap they were making a decade or so ago. Haven’t seen that in a while, huh?
