That’s been us. We went to the butcher and they asked us how much our steer weighed. All I could do was guess. Sad thing is we bought this 2 years ago and just had time to tackle this project. Just not enough hours in the day

Steve, absolutely. Thanks for asking. Let me gather that info and I’ll get back to you. Also, since we have used it a handful of times I will suggest the size we wish we had made it

Here is what we built: ~10’ (9’ 10” exactly) long x 24” wide with bracing equally spaced throughout. We wish we had built it 36” wide and will probably have to alter it in future. Trying to get larger cows to stand on 24” width is TOUGH Please let me know what other questions you may have. Happy to help or discuss

Yup I use an old wood blade on backwards to cut metal roofing. Pro tip: never stand directly behind the saw if you like your t shirt. 😅

Haha! We learned these things to ruined shirt way. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve said “it’s just a quick weld” then have holes in whatever I was wearing. 🤦‍♂️

I just bought a set of scale bars and made a platform out of wood, just temporary, cause I had to weigh a heifer calf. I want to make something a little more sturdy and longer lasting. Did you use 2"x2" tubing? What gauge and/or thickness was the tubing?

I would use 2x2 tubing 3/16. Also, we wish we made it wider. 34-36” would be better than the 24” we did. Let me know what other questions you might have

Thanks for asking. We really love it. We just used it last week when we loaded out 9 calves and a few cows for the sell barn. We use it at least a few times a month when feeding out calves. Seems accurate enough for what we need

I'm a scale technician and these scales are throw away sorry to say like that buts it's a fact.

Also that scale is way too long it will deflect in the middle.

Thanks for watching and offering your advice. You seem to know a bunch more about scales than us ranchers. I’ll say this, it works perfectly for us so far and is accurate to 2-3 lbs. I agree it’s not wide enough and we probably should have made it a little shorter to reduce the deflect. Again, all that said we love it
