Rather than paying hundreds of dollars for a commercial lighting system to extend over my longarm, I decided to create my own system. This system is constructed from 2 inch vacuum PVC piping and LED shop lights, and cost me about $150 in total. It provides excellent lighting over my longarm quilt projects and is just as good as any special purpose commercial lighting system.
The parts lists include:
1. Three Koda Linkable Shop Lights from Costco $45.00.
2. Eight pieces of PVC Piping - 8 foot lengths.
3. Three PVC couplings to join lengths together.
4. Two PVC "Long Elbow" pipe elbows.
5. Four PVC "Short Elbow" pipe elbows.
6. Two Tee Connectors. ("Y" Connectors will also work, but they are more expensive.
7. Four Tubing Caps.
8. Small container of PVC glue.
9. Bundle of flexible straps to tile the electrical cords together as well as tie the lights to the overhead police.
Please note that you will most likely be required to secure the overhead pole that holds lights to the ceiling in order to prevent the lights from sagging. The only way to prevent this from happening is to construct your system out of metal pipes, or go to a special system sold by your long arm supplier.
