Rough timing on the 0.6 update :( I definitely think you made the right call sticking with 0.5 though, starting from square 1 after building the entire megabase would've been a tragedy
@@half_pixel yeah i was using his blueprint book built the entire starter base in 0.6 then realized it doesnt work so i switched back to 0.5 and still some of the starter base isnt working properly thinking it might be the verison im on
@@bengrimes92 could be! Although if it's your first time playing Space Exploration I'd really recommend trying to build stuff yourself before going for blueprints
Oh dear lord, i died a bit inside when you started talking about the patch. That timing would've been funny if it wasnt fucking tragic... Having a blast watching the megabase come together though, as always your editing makes it thoroughly entertaining!
Knowing Z there was a part of me going "he's gonna do it the madman, he's gonna tear the whole base down and rebuild it, isn't he?" I'm glad he decided to not go that route.
@@Deneb626 with factorio mega mods... may the Heavens be with him... tho... he did do recussion recussion recussion... hmm... i guess he's throwing that down the road...
@@Zisteau im pretty sure its mostly for the shield projectors so we should probably keep using it lol i dont know how the asteroids are coded but they may not block them on ships or something without?
I feel you with that 0.6 update. Thankfully I finished just before it so I don't need to worry, but it would be close to a nightmare if I had to go through redesigning so much.
Same, had just put about 120 h and got energy science 1 done and the update dropped. Then my whole base had a blackout and i didnt really like it anyway so i started over, but that was kinda difficult. Now im playing SE+K2 on 0.6 and K2 does add some fun things but it was kinda difficult as a choice.
The three steps are: 1. You build the base to build the base to build the megabase 2. You build the base to build the megabase 3. You build the megabase Simple!
ive been watching your factorio content for yeaaaaars, i have never bought the game but i think i might now. my favourite series was the meiosis one, and it was the one which introduced me to factorio, thanks for all the great content Z.
Ouccchhhhh, piece by piece the beautiful design got blotted out..... If you're sticking to 0.5, it'd be beautiful to get to see like a 15 minute video just following different raw resources in to the megabase, through processing and out as finished products - really get a feel for the scale and design of the factory lines!
I always laugh and learn while watching your videos Zisteau. I will definitely be using your “three” step process in my future Factorio games as well as IRL.
These factorio videos make my day better every time I watch them. Thanks so much for making them. I started playing space exploration (very casually) because of this series and have been having a blast. Looking forwards to the next one.
When you opened the change log I was like, "oh no..." And then it only got worse. I'm glad you're not updating and I'm glad I didn't get far in my playthrough!
I don't play Factorio, but I continue to enjoy your serieses of it and be suitably impressed. It's great to watch all this come together. Can't wait to see it in action!
Man, those are the simplest three steps I've ever seen! Awesome as always, and yeah, seeing how much a mess that patch would do, oof. My brother and I are playing through this at the moment, but the update dropped just when we reached the point where the changes mattered. Either or always looking forward to more!
Been watching your content for years grew up watching your minecrack and terraria game plays and now get to watch you play my new favourite game! Still got your black sweater hanging up in my closet! Thanks for all the entertainment over the years man
I started in 0.6 like a week and a half ago or so and looked about for some base inspirations. Actually see what I am getting into to be able to be prepared. Even though you are playing 0.5 it was a huge help. I modified your starter bp for 0.6. next to nothing was changed except replacing production and high tech science with the rocket science. I didn't bother changing out the requester chests though because I'm being lazy. When I actually start over and use the BP I'll either hand feed or figure something out.
Hope you're not feeling too bad about sticking to 0.5 Zisteau, especially on this scale of base the changes are just too large to adjust your setup to deal with.
@@AnotherDuck Ah, but you you forget Step 3.2: The voice in your head saying "I don't need it" gets quieter and quieter until finally you scream out loud "I NEEEED IIIT"
@@Shadowhawkdark Nah, that's for a potential next playthrough. Especially as with that many changes, there are likely to be bugs and imbalances that will need fixes later on anyway, so it's better to wait for them as well.
Wouldn't it be easier to just have the robots rip up the base you were going to build and start a new design from scratch? Wait, that's not how Zisteau thinks! Good call Zisteau, I like seeing you stick to the overcomplicated megabase you committed to building! Of course, that does mean you have to work all of the kinks out of it, too! Well, every solution creates new problems to overcome! 😊👍
Good choice, I make a point of never updating mods mid-playthrough, unless I encounter a bug that stops the game somehow. The main reason to do updates as quickly as possible is security, and that's not relevant for factorio mods.
You could have used the same blockspace for the trains that you use the for 2-4 trains. Just make the first three signals after a junction chain signals and you have the same effect as placing it 24 wagon lengths apart.
0.6 is a great update for anyone starting a new save, or even anyone who just hadn't gotten into space yet. It is NOT a good update for anyone who has put any significant time into a save. You made the correct decision. I am curious about the core mining dislike though; do you just dislike the concept of core mining? The new core mining is completely different from the old one, all they share is the name.
Just let this mega base stockpile the resources to get into the next phase of mod content and have enough left over to redesign it when you feel like updating it \ making a new base.
honestly your "starter base" is big enough this megabase is huge over kill not only that but later on you will unlock techs that make building this mega base way better and more efficient
The update happened to me and it took me a number of weeks to rebuild it and start making progress again. I was basically just starting my trips to get the last unique resource and 💥
Three easy steps: 1. Prepare half of year to spend on this easy task 2. Design everything and place 3. Find new update that change everthing you've done Repeat. :-)
Well you see, underneath all that water is land and "island" is defined as land which is fully surrounded by water and when you think about it space is a kind of water since we use ships to navigate it so by the definition of island the entire planet is in fact the island.
The scale of this is amazing :D Just a hint: you can make blueprints from map screen and/or navigation view. Is a bit faster than walking both ways all the time :)
I started watching this series recently thinking it would be updated for 0.6. Too bad you are not willing to update and redesign, I was enjoying the series immensely (your production is top-notch), though I understand, considering how much time you invested in designing everything. Since I'm currently on a 0.6 playthrough, I'm not interested in watching 'old' stuff. Too much has changed. Have fun everybody.
I had just got to the spaceship victory when 0.5 dropped. So I started a K2SE with the new versions. The space elevator really changed up the logistics strategy feeding Norbit. I wish you'd restarted with the new version. I think the playthrough would age better and get more long term views on the new version. Maybe you could dramatize a calamity on Nauvis and abandon the entire planet and rebate somewhere else?
As one who lived through the 0.5->0.6 retrofit in his own 1500-hour invested world I'll just say that it's better to stick to 0.5 at Zisteau's stage of his game unless he's a masochist who enjoys rebuilding about 80% of his megabase. Rebuilding in Factorio is nothing more than a walk of shame and a waste of time at this magnitude.
Im playing too with patch 0.6 and i decided build whole base by using only cargo rockets. Every production unit has own reactor, and other stuff. May be it can helps you
@18:30 I know your pain. I've spent the better part of two weeks "updating" all 6 of my bases to work with the SE update. Almost trashed a 1500-hour save game to start over and not hassle with the retrofitting.
whenever I play something modded I never upgrade unless it fixes issues I was experiencing. it always messes things up and it would mean redoing the entire step 3 part of your simple and easy 3 step plan
wow I absolutely would have stopped playing this game if it were on console and I was forced to use an update that just rendered my entire base obsolete. That is the folly of playing on these unfinished games/mods
I started a new playthrough just after the patch (without knowing), so I didn't experience that issue but I understood what was happening when the patch was brought up. Yikes...
Ok, bought Factorio. Step 0.002 check. Download the mods. Step 0.05 check. Alright, now how to crash land on an alien planet? Steps 0.051 to 0.099 must be some real doozies. 🤔
....who wants to bet he puts another megabase in space connected via elevator edit after watching: oops. space elevator is pretty neat tho, to my knowlege the space science is also easier to make in the update but not certian.
