How to Make a Mini Ramp! I built this 22 foot ramp (3' x 8' x 22') mini ramp half-pipe during the great Covid-19 Pandemic of 2020. More details below...
I following along with this guide at DIYSkate (I modified the flat section to be shorter):

Total cost: about $750 on the materials at Home Depot. Helpful note, if you are building your own, a cheaper coping pipe to buy is 2" EMT Tubing which is only $25 each 10ft at Home Depot.
Took about a week of building, and a few helpful hands!

I was a really good skater back in the 80's, but, put such childish things away since '89. Now that I'm 49, doing this project (well within my skillset and tool range) is my midlife crisis. "Showing off" your skills at the end is a real inspiration for me to start.

This is so awesome. I built my first quarter pipe two weeks ago and dream or building a miniramp like this at some point. Lumber prices are crazy right now and I'm trying to figure out if I have the space to build something like this but this video definitely inspires me. Good job mate!

yes awesome ramp, when you inevitably have to replace the masonite try out 1/4 plywood with spar urethane, it’s just better all round just it costs probably 1.5x as much

Great video! Now that its all done, do you wish you went a little wider with the ramp?... or do you find that ur dimensions work well? Curious because I'm thinking of building one for my daughter (who is just learning). Thanks!

Good question! I reduced the flatground portion to be just 6-feet across (instead of 8), I imagine you'd have an easier time if that were wider, yes. More time for your daughter to adjust her feet and balance before going up the other side. If you'd like also, I imagine the ramp would be less intimidating at 2-feet tall (rather than 3 which is in the video), but then you won't have as much room for skill-growth. :)

With roof sheathing I know they say to separate it 1/8". Do you have to do the same for a skate ramp? Just thinking about expansion that's all

Would you please post the materials list My son wants to build this But he will be contributing $$ towards the build and I told him to do the research which is why I’m asking you 😂🤣 I have done most all his builds while he watches Not anymore LOL Also I want to use plastic sheeting for the top layer and seal the joints so it will last through weather Great video thanks

It’s just a galvanized metal coping/pipe. Make sure it’s galvanized to prevent rusting and have a buttery slide. You can find them at Home Depot if you live in the us they sell them for cheaper. I recommend nothing bigger than 2 inches in width. I also recommend using skate lite, which is what he layered on top of the ramp. It’s a go to for the top layer of skate ramps.

When it rains you should cover it with some thicc plastic, as you can see at 3:38. About the price it depends where you live, in Spain is about 1500-3000€ depending on the size

I used 1/4" Tempered Hardboard bought from Home Depot. (Sometimes called Masonite)

I had to add vertical 2x4 supports from the top-deck horizontal 2x4 to the bottom horizontal 2x4 (on the far sides of the ramp). Once these were on there, the ramp can't wiggle side to side nearly as easily :)

I made mine 6 feet to save a little on lumber. Now, I'm wishing I had done the full 8 feet because its a little smoother to ride with more flat. I would recommend the full length if you have the space, if not, you'll love it either way!

I followed the link in the description to build an arc that's 3.5" from the bottom. I'm not sure the exact radius of that, been a while since I took trigonometry haha

It’s going to be MUCH harder to build one 10’ because most wood comes in 8’. Particularly your plywood

What were you brushing on the plywood after you cut it?

That was a mixture of Alex Plus caulk and water - I used it to seal up the edges so that the plywood sides can't split on the ramp due to rain and sun exposure.

@@whatsondurban6913 I didn't paint the top layer because I wanted it to feel smooth. I keep a tarp over it to protect against rain. The layer underneath and the sides of the ramp are painted with 2 coats of Spar Urethane. This keeps this fairly weather proof and prevents water seeping through all the layers of ply underneath !

I can see this being expensive, if you dont have the money just take apart a wood palet or two get some scrap wood for the sides some pbc pipe for coping and spend like $25 on playwood make 2 quearter pipes and there you have it cheap!

Commentary instead of music would have been nice. Explaining measurements, materials, where you purchased the materials, etc... Didn't help me learn how to make one for myself....
