If your looking for good cover ideas, every Pokemon anime opening from the second one up until the end of Gen 5 was amazing and could always use more attention.
Coming from someone who has only played Magic the Gathering, this is pretty interesting. It's nice to have a video like this. Been curious about getting into the TCG for a while now
I would advise against it, at least until they fix Standard and/or officially sanction the "Single-Prize Only" format. The game is at one of its lowest points right now.
@@singami465 Eh, I'm mostly into the idea od collecting for the time being. Nothing too competitive, I technically don't have anyone to play with anyways! I was mostly curious to see if the game played anything like Magic does, since I've known about the Pokemon TCG longer but learned how to play Magic first o:
@@limm_ee I've been playing MTG for 16 years and, while they have some similarities, the dynamics are completely different. Magic is much more like Poker, in which you bluff your enemy. Pokemon, at its best, is more like Chess - most of the information is available, and you have to calculate multiple turns ahead. Of course, at its worst (nowadays), Pokemon is just a game that plays itself, because the games are short and you have limited choice. You're just comparing who got the better draw.
This is great! I love that Samurott is clearly just the example here, and the *real* value is that this teaches some great heuristics for building a deck around any Pokémon you want to feature. Looking forward to more of these videos!
As someone getting back into the TCG soon, this is really a good refresher, and it's also something useful for new players that want to make a deck from scratch. Thank you for making this!
I just want to give you all kudos for this video. I’ve been trying to get into playing the game after collecting the cards all my life and NOTHING has helped. Meanwhile this 10 minute video explained everything and I’m good to go. Honestly amazed, thanks so much, Pokémon Team.
Very excited for this series! I started playing online last year after a friend gave me a theme deck, and it's been really fun in times like these. Hoping this can help bring more people into the game, the strategy is fun, and the cards you collect can be fun to play with!! ^-^
Love the idea of the series.. choosing stage 2s in this meta.. not such a good call 😂 I know this is meant to be an introduction im just salty stage 2s aren't good.
This was awesome! I can't wait for the next episode. As someone who plays PTCGO, I only use them decks when I play since I'm not as confident in deck building. Videos like these are very helpful, and I can wait to see more! I'm really hoping this gets more Trainers into playing PTCGO, maybe we'll see some updates one day.
I’m 3 years late but THANK YOU! For this video! I’m brand new to this TCG and your video is the only one that explained it in a way that I can understand😊
I’m very glad that TPCi has begun to do these very useful videos for new players and old players alike of the Pokémon TCG games and online during this time. This is a great idea and I can’t wait to see future videos and upcoming ideas. All the best for a strong start in 2021!
If you don't have multiple of the Hero of The Deck that you want, I suggest you add multiple powerful cards of the same type. It'll really help, and it helped me too! Since I only had 1 Charizard EX, I added a Reshiram GX and an Arcanine. Oh, and my deck name is Blazing Heroes. :D
Would love to see a deck with Vmax Butterfree as the hero! Thank you Ellis for the series, it's fun and informative. Hope I can get my hands on some booster packs in the future ^_^v
As a long time competitive player, this is nice to see! The video does a great job introducing key concepts, I think for beginners this is a great tool.
If going with a water pokemon base i would find a fighting pokemon to attack with colorless energy to use only water, or little other types to use 4 aurora energy. Also, using samurott i would play 4 twin energy, removing the need for frosmoth and benched to attack quick as its attack can be paid in one water and one twin. A two turn attach. Cause what if you have samurott but not frosmoth? What if samurott and frosmoth are your only two pokemon and samurotts in the active? You need alternate ways to charge up your attack so you arent hinging on a single card combination
Been meaning for years to get into this properly. Not played since being a kid during the Red/Blue base card releases (which are still in my parent's house), and now I'm fiiiiiiiiinally getting back into it!
Great work @BicycEllis and the Pokemon Company! We need more stuff like this to get new players into the game and ready to fill up those Pokemon Leagues and League Challenges when in person play resumes.
This is one way way to play the game, but it doesn't really touch on playstyle, really finding what works for you and exploring, and experimenting is so crucial. Yes you can play the decks in the meta (meta stands for most effective tactics available, but it really means what what people deem to be overpowered right then and there, and just becomes a normal in the game that usually changes week to week.) Really finding your playstyle is a way to improve in deck building most importantly, and also being very comfortable with your role on the battlefield meaning less panic etc. I can't state this enough, the way YOU play matters, and if you're big enough the meta might even grow to block your decks on some level due to the games work, especially now.
There's one more important thing to remember. Put your heart and soul into your deck and always trust in the Heart of the Cards. It will guide you through tough duels.
Ah, ini nih video yang kalian butuhkan buat membangun deck Pokémon TCG. Top Deck Academy emang selalu bikin konten informatif dan gampang dipahami. Gw jadi semakin tertarik buat nyoba main Pokémon TCG nih!
I only played the Gameboy Color game, but isn't 10 energy cards too few? idk what special energy cards were legal at that time, but wouldn't some kind of energy that provided 2 colorless be kinda useful Samurott and Dewott?
This is what I like to see. I wish Pokemon TCG would have even more emphasis on deck building. Too many players' "decks" of consist of just spam of powerful cards with almost no strategy or variety.
You are half right in this argument. The only cards i see that are spammy as hell come in ADPZ decks that just need to bosses orders twice to win game if they set up altered creation gx and have zacian. Thats literally the most spammiest deck in the meta but theres a shit ton of strategy in tcg, mainlg sequencing your cards to get the pieces you need that HELP YOU BUILD the deck right. You cant just put a bunch of cards into a deck and know itll work. You always have to calc the math to earn valuable damage against top meta threats. For example people started running zigzagoon galar on decks with scoop up net jirachis to set goon and scoop it to ping 1 damage onto centiskorch v at 200 hp before it can evolve into centiskorch vmax. This is especially helpful in mirror matches if youre going first because you can attach 1st turn, then welder attach next turn to cap at 200 damage if youre able to vmax. With goon ping you ko the other persons centiskorch before theyre able to setup
@@notoriouscasual5004 you're right about that but that's the meta players. I play on the extended format online so I'm talking about the rando players I see. Like a bench just full of copies of Legendary/GX cards.
This isn't bad but back in the day Pokemon put out a video cassette that taught how to play Pokemon TCG. Things have changed since then, but the personality that, that video had made me fall in love with TCGs
This series is a great idea, but they should have at least chosen a semi-viable pokemon line to build from, the trainer lineup is just fine and the energy count is as well, but that Samurott is a terrible "hero" to build your deck around. They should have just built around the Charizard from Vivid Voltage, sure its not an amazing deck, but its a LOT better than Samurott, there's already a theme deck for it, and you could have focused on upgrading that deck to make it competitive.
Charizard or maybe even Decidueye Obstagoon wouldve been better. Samurotts just too inconsistent and weak that if you wanted to ise a water deck you should might as well get inteleon. And people moght argue this is the same thing with charizard and centiskorch vmax, but that difference which make then both viable is charizard is able to stack 300 damage for a one prizer if all leons are in discard. But will not be able to snowball as well as centiskorch
I haven't played the TCG in ages and it's amazing to me seeing how much stronger pokemon have gotten (especially the basics) and how a deck these days can get away with just ten energy cards.
It be nice if there were actually cards to buy and build with. The scalpers in my area are buying everything, even the pokemon center machines that get restocked once a week, to resell at high prices.
this is totally useful...EXCEPT WHEN ITS HARD FOR NEW PLAYERS TO FIND PACKS....not a new player but i was gonna buy some today....i was shit outta luck
