Full step-by-step journey of the development of our first European build in Cities Skylines 2, attempting to create a high-detail realistic European/Scandinavian fishing town, nestled in between beautiful mountains, fjords, and forests. We build a fishing port, industrial sites, a historic center, and cozy row-house-lined streets - but also add a scenic restaurant at the end of the peninsula and a mountain cabin on top of the nearest mountain, both with stunning views!

I'd love to see a video inspired by other areas of North America. A rust belt city build with influences from Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, etc would be cool!

the fact that we can't just delete sidewalks as the game is right now is insane. I don't want sidewalks on every road but I DO want roads that aren't super narrow. This is specifically more of an American thing, and I get that, but some stretches of road sidewalks just aren't safe and I want to make paths that go around the hazards.

one of the major reasons why its so hard to build a european city is because european cities were already huge by the time cars came, well over a million in population with some of them, say paris, london or moscow, by that time cars came into existance all the streets meant for walking and horses needed to be transformed, the city design that already existed wasnt perfect but what could you do? demolish half the old city? no. just deal with it or build under it. meanwhile american cities were mostly mere villages or small cities once the car came into existance, this allowed them to more quickly and much easier adapt to the cars and this is why all american cities are grid based, their cities were still in their infancy at the time cars were developped compared to european cities which already had around a million people living in some of the largest european cities and were stuck with the tons of existant infrastructure when the car was made the only way to make a proper european city is by ignoring that cars exist, and only when its built, adapt the city to handle cars.

It’s the same with so many games. Why do so many take the US as a model infrastructure and architecture wise. There are some nice historic buildings but apart from that most houses look either all the same or are way to big mansions with very complex roofs sitting on too much land… it’s super boring. The sims original in game homes are all horrible, the appliances are all American, no variation for other countries. As a German I for example think that fridges that aren’t built in and have normal Kitchen fronts look really horrible. Here you usually only find separate fridges in student or low income houses or in basements. And cities skylines 1 has only ugly commercial buildings and densely population buildings are all skyscrapers. There is nothing really in between single family houses and skyscrapers, no diversity. Ilove mods and assets. With them cities can have much more variety. I build for looks and love using the 1st person camera mod to drive through my own towns 🙈

@@chgr4674 manol lords is early acces organic medieval city builder where you well buy a european medieal city instead of american ones. frostpunk is city builder where you build in apocalypse there are many more options

@@citieman He could also just surface paint the non-road side of the quay with a concrete surface - I do this a lot, it's a decent compromise that covers some of the shonkiness of the edge otherwise.

Looks great! Two things: 1. You really hit the nail on the head about the zoning and asset. I tried to build on this map before mods were out and it's so restrictive when all of the city facilities are so damn big. 2. I hope you keep this build going and expand further out in the region. 🙂

Having tinkered a lot with the industrial zoning, i can say that the 2x2 lots are the only ones that doesnt spawn any smoke stacks. For the rest of them it all depends on what company that moves into the building. They can also spawn smoke stacks later on if a company moves out and a new one moves in. I have been able to create custom non polluting industrial zones with the RICO mod and merging 2x2 lots with warehouses and such as well as making custom storage yards.

After looking at CS2, CS1 looks really bad and unplayable. I think most of us have to wait for first dlc to play CS2 unfortunately. Wonderful map and nice idea to build small village near shoreline which is far from center.

I never thought I would watch a Cities Skyline video and end up with this level of homesickness. This looks so Norwegian! The fjord, mountains and how the industry is all connected with the ocean. Even the detail at the mountain top and of course the northern light at the end... Spot on!

Hey man, love your content. I've been trying to build my own European City, using anarchy, RICO all that stuff, but whenever placing Ploppable buildings not within zones I get condemning errors, how did you get around this? (specifically with the rowhouses at: 36:34 and 38:54 and also the mixed building at 36:30) thanks in advance and also awesome build!

I believe the mod has now fixed that - so you can plop away and it auto zones, as the vanilla game should have done. Not tried it but seen Biffa do it. This game is going to be truly awesome when we get the asset packs and DLC's.

You should definetly consider using the water treatment plant as an asset for fishing industri. The asset itself reminds me alot of norwegian fish processing facilities, and i think it could be a great addition to the fishing docks.

Absolutely breathtaking cinematics, this is hands down my favourite CS:II build to date. Bravo, sir. I'd definitely say return to this build or something similar when more assets come our way; this already feels vastly different to other's cities and has that functional coziness I only hope to achieve.

I agree with the points you mentioned at the beginning. The zoning, the more I think about it, is such a letdown. They had the opportunity to do something truly groundbreaking for this 'next-gen' city builder, but they stuck to the same old rigid grid. Not sure if you ever played Cities XL(XXL), that game at least came with a tool for filler parks and plazas so that you don't have so many empty areas. As for the European building theme, I, too, do not find it particularly European-looking. Being from Europe, I know each country has many different styles of architecture, so that might be a bit difficult to implement, but what they've gone for is far too generic in my opinion.

Definitely frustrating that so much of this work has to be done with mods and Developer menu, but at least it's an option and gives you a little flexibility. Overall what a build. Absolutely gorgeous. A place I'd absolutely wanna visit, especially the bar on the point.

Ahhh man, this has been the map I've been working on. I wanted to use it to focus on style and shape of infrastructure and development level by forcing limited space and I've enjoyed it so much I was hoping I'd see someone else give it a crack. Love seeing what you did with the same spaces I've been working in. Great work as always.

Great start! :) Do you think it's possible to include some more "eyelevel" shots in the cinematic segment? Since the usual perspective during the built is the top down view anyways, I'm always more interested in how the residents see their town :)

Really well done build. Very inspiring. Ive been loving the new surface painting feature in combination with the invisible pedestrian path. It really lets you fill in those in between places and actually fill them with life!

I hope that in the future they categorize different asset themes into architectural styles instead of areas. Like with what we currently have - the "North American" only represents a small area of North America, and the "European" ones definitely don't cover the variety of styles found in Europe. I do hope they recategorize the current assets too, but I have a bad feeling that will end up being something modders do, not developers :( Either way, beautiful town you've created!! As always, Infra :) And I can't wait to see more of it!

very nice :) apart from the fact that all the inhabitants seem to just sit at home, all the streets are 99% empty, for me this was a gamekiller, because there is never a challenge in terms of traffic... so why make public transport or parking lots... they should have released the game with dev mod, service cubes and moding, would have been 100x easier and people would be happy, at least those who only build for beauty... but still you could make 100 memes, like "the world builds parking lots underground to save space, CS2 manages to make an underground parking lot take up more space than above ground"... really a shame, because they also killed CS 1 by showing what could be done. In the end neither game gets played... sorry for the feedback, let's not lose hope! In any case, your work is great 😘

27:43 this is the major deal breaker in both CSs : massive service building made for catering to the whole damn Manhattan, it's ridiculous... EVEN for an american-style small town, let alone EU. The humongous school makes zero sense whatsoever in any early development. Where's our small neighborhood police station, like, 3x2 max ? Small town cemetary attached to a church ? ... Parts of CS2 feel like a downright downgrade from... SC4! and that was an all-american grid builder if there ever was any. If trying to spawn a natural city without unlimited money, the slightest base utility absolutely destroys the city budget too... I'm really sour about it.

I still haven't bought CS2 because of all the bad reviews, but every time I watch your videos I actually really like what I see. The game looks great and there are enough tools to allow for creativity. I am really in two minds about whether I should buy it or not.

in this comment im put my wish to build my own PC that can run Cities skyline or cities skyline 2 before im graduate from middle school next year!, My goal is $650 PC build or less This are my Spec expectation😂 -i3 12100f -Asrock hdv+ D5 -16GB DDR5 -128GB NVME -500GB HDD -RTX 2060 8GB -simple big case -24 inch monitor 75hz minimum or 24 inch monitor 144hz if i have more budget😂 i live in indonesia btw so its kinda easy to find a used part because theres many people here love to sell used stuff WISH ME LUCKK!!!

Amazing city, one of my biggest issues with the game is that you need to have such a large foot print and the population isn’t really that big. Like yours the foot print is large for a “small city” I wish there was a way to re work that with out sky high buildings touching the moon

What is that supposed to mean with missing bikepats? How is that related to european style? 4:16 No, that's not realistic at all. Most roads, especially such rural and remote ones are unlit. A more appropriate thing to do would had been adding overground electric infrastructure, wooden poles. If you're doing Norway, oil is a very big industry there. 34:40 This looks very American. lol 41:45 ANd this as well. Rowhouses should not be used on the mountainsides. Usually there are normal singular houses, that are physical separate. Rowhouses are more of a center thing

While this looks great, calling a Village with barely over 300 Inhabitants a European City is a bit of a Stretch. This might be a City when you take Iceland as Scale, but in many European Countries, including Germany, this would be a very small Village. The smallest Muncipality of my particular State (the Saar Region, the smallest in Germany by Area and Population aside from the City States) still has more than 6.000 Inhabitants and is stll considered a "Small Town".

As a frenchy who's grew up in a small village i always wanted to recreate this kind of spirit. But i always failed. I see so many potential with this mods (didn't play since launch so sad...). Takes long time to build but the idea to place manually some buildings makes me very happy. And your small town is mindblowing btw

very good! remember a bit Lofoten with the Fjǫll in Nordland but t highway that connect with t village should be a road, some normal in Norðvegr (Norway) say it because (how i say after) seems with the Fjǫll from Lofoten archipelago.

Look at different Norwegian cities. I can recommend cities like Bergen, Risør, Ålesund and Lofoten. Different types of fishing cities. Love this build btw!

You can delete smokestacks from buildings. What you do is open devmode, go to simulation, check enable debugging. Then you can select the smokestack prop within the building. Then go to UI Bindings>action set>delete. Voila, no more smokestack. This is really only viable with plopped buildings because if it levels up, the smokestack will come back if the higher level building also has a smokestack.

The zoning system that basically forces you to build grids is the major let down of skylines 2 for me. That and the weird scaling between plopable buildings and the zoned buildings. For example a school having a floorplan of almost a entire neighborhood and that is like 3 normal houses high while being only 2 floors. With the minimum of a few hundred students.

Very nice. I am thinking about getting CS2 ( I love CS1) and then figuring out how to get mods into it. (For CS1 I used the Steam Workshop) 🙂

i've not watched the full video yet, just as you placed the first industrial zone, i'm writing this comment. basically there's already mods for ploppable rico and the buildings you place are fully functional, as in industrial building they provide work places?

Best build in the CS2 yet, very happy with the result and keep going please, maybe implement schools and public transport like basic European cities have❤️✌️

Scandinavian cities are nice and all, but dude, Finnish cities are way better. They look like ex-Soviet mazes, even through Finland was never a part of the group of silly countries.

Funny how like city in the fjords are "Scadinavian", like no its Norwegian. Like Norway is the only country which has fjord cities. Danish and Swedish cities are beautiful too but have their own characteristics.

"realistic scandinavian theme costal city" There is only one country with that type of topography/landscape and that's Norway. So the term Scandinavian doesn't make much sense.

Very nice. With all the limitations this game has, you succeeded in building a nice European village. And the servicebuildings are way large in this game. A policeoffice or doctorscabinet in a village like this is usually situated in a simple townhouse in Europe. So hope they will provide smaller buildings for this

Looks awesome but I can see that you squeezed literally everything possible from the base game. You definitely lack a nice church, older structures, nice lighthouse or, as you said, more european schools 😅 look forward to mod store release from the developers and I believe this will be the reborn of cs2 Love your content as always 😊

hey, i recently found out you can get almost 20 more fps by closing water animation in the dev tools. even more suprising is nothing changes visually when you make it zero. the sad thing is when time passes it returns to 1x speed and fps drops again. please try this and you will get the idea. i am trying to find a solution to this problem help me

It's amazing to see just how powerful developer mode is. It's just too bad a lot of these customization options *require* devmode to access. Did you have a particular Scandinavian town as inspiration, or was this just a random creation?

What really annoy me is all the trucks are american semis with European trailers. This combination would be illegal in most of the US (While not Canada) and most of Europe (Not Sweden or Finland)

I envision a network of small towns like this between the mountains and throughout the map, with a larger town/small city just in the midlle connecting the multiple villages

add 1.a fire tower lookout behind the restraut ..looking onto the town..and a pathway going up to the tower. 2. a light house on the mountain behind where the first vlog logs assets were placed. 3. communication mast (tower) covering the town.
