Do it right or don't start. Amazing! Maybe make something so the 3rd bed part sits at an angle so the bed turns into a bench? _/_

Cody, this adventure van conversion should be in a book you write. So many great ideas in a single video series.
@feellnfroggy

Until you get the 4x4 installed Cody, add a rear diff locker. (electric) and that van will still go most place 4x4 will. You will be so glad you did, as glad as you are for the 3 piece mattress.

The van's really coming along. At some point, are you going to do a cost breakdown? You've mentioned a number of times how what you're doing is either better (quality or reliability) or cheaper than a commercial product. It would be interesting to see a breakdown when you're done.
@ForRealzMedia2K12
@ForRealzMedia2K12 6 лет назад
rjtumble tbh you can get a second hand Winnebago (Walter White meth lab) for cheaper then the van he used, I'm not saying it's the same thing as if you had a van already and then turned it into a camper but his build is more expensive but newer
@gc7782
@gc7782 6 лет назад
Clayton Tucker I'm sure you're correct. However, I also think it would be interesting to see this project compared with something similar in terms of age and features.
@rjtumble

Yeah, agreed. You can generally buy something used and spend less money. I'm thinking of a comparison of this new DIY vs new ready-made.

I dont know if im just over-analyzing, but i feel like your energy, enthusiasm and overall video quality has gone up alot in the past couple of videos. You had a bit of a slump for a while, but the content you put up now are just as in the early days of this channel. Keep up the good work and i wish you good health for yourself and the family.

In Belgium, we can buy the 4x4 version at the dealer, comes out of the Ford factory, so thats wierd that it's not possible in America. Nice work you all ready have done on the Van
@AgriculturalLife
@AgriculturalLife 6 лет назад
We only can buy diesel, no other fuel possible at this moment. Never know that there would be such difference between America and Europe.
@droyce4596
@droyce4596 6 лет назад
which diesel is available for you? In America I think we only have 6.7l which has a lot of problems, and also vents the exhaust fumes during regen cycles into the passenger compartment, often resulting in the hospitalization of the occupants. but its a very powerful engine.
@AgriculturalLife
@AgriculturalLife 6 лет назад
EcoBlue 2,0-liter TDCi, with 105 HP/360 Nm, 130 HP/385 Nm and 170 HP/405 Nm. A 6.7l engine is not done here, this because of taxes and consumption :) diesel is around 1.3€ (1.5$) for 1 liter (0.26 gallon).
@droyce4596
@droyce4596 6 лет назад
Agricultural Life that makes sense lol. Turns out I was wrong, apparently they never offered the 6.7 in a transit, but we do get a 3.2 diesel here.

You should round off or put plastic corners on the aluminum frame so when move the panels around you don’t accidentally cut the other panel

Cody, it looks great! Someone may already mentioned the idea (I have not read all of the comments, so I am sorry, if I am repeating); and you may already have a better idea, too. When you need more room, use one bed panel, as the back of a couch, at the very back of the van, and store the other panel on the wall for a back rest, or store it above the one used for the back, if you already have another use for the wall. Hope this made sense.

When the series began I wasn't sold on upfitting a stock van into an sportsmobile vs. purchasing an RV for overnight trips. After seeing how the bed came together I'm full supporter. Those three removable panels will be so versatile for the outdoor activities you mentioned. You're basically packing a full locker room & equipment room in your vehicle. This will end up being a perfect van for weekend adventures... I guess that's where the name 'ADVENTURE VAN' comes from. As an avid RV'er there a many things I'd like to change in my travel trailer with the main one being the bed. It takes up a third of the space in my 18' trailer and I would love to convert it into a murphy bed to add room for seating.

I've been doing research for about 6 months in preparation of doing my own sprinter van conversion and would highly recommend taking a look at " The Restoration Couple" on you tube for what ( IMO) is the best DYI on how to properly insulate a van conversion. This is of particular importance in colder and wetter climates like we have in the Pacific Northwest US. Keep up the great content on all fronts, I'm a big fan of what you stand for!
@RomeoEdward
@RomeoEdward 6 лет назад
They used reflectix to insulate their van. There are many videos that say installing reflectix directly on the metal gives zero insulation value. If you build in an air pocket it gets a little better, but there are much better materials to use for van insulation.

Great video Cody. I went to the proving grounds 3 years ago when they were working the final bugs out. We sat in one of these and they dropped the temperature outside the van down to -60 degrees. Even at them extreme temps the van started.
@VnazT
@VnazT 6 лет назад
Cody, you should think about adding the I channels along the roof of the van so that you can add hangers for skis, rifles, shelves, and bags off of the floor. It would de clutter the van during adventures and be easy to remove. Plus, you would have tiedown points up high for awkward loads.

Cody you should round off the corners of the edge of the panel rails where plastic goes. As you were putting it in the van, I was crossing my fingers that it wouldn't damage the upholstery! I imagine they're not sharp but it still looks like a pretty pointy corner.

Looks great! Btw, you might be able to hook up a 12v pump to that water heater. That way, if you are near a lake, you could pump up lake water, heat it up and use it to shower. That way you wouldn't use any of the drinking water. Just a thought.

You should put some railing support like you did for the bed on the supports of the back doors so you can make it a couch for more comfort and space saving. So instead of stacking the front panel, you could just make it a back support for the rest of the mattress.
