I like the contrast between the legs and sides. I am jealous of the interesting grain that your pickets have, the ones in my area are all pretty plain. I build all cedar planters very similar to this. I like to build a base frame out of 2x4's to support the bottom and prevent any sagging. I also add blocks of 2x4 on the inside of the legs to carry the weight directly to the ground.
Just what I was looking for. Thanks for the tutorial. In the beginning you mentioned you painted the box and it lasted 3 years. Does that mean the planter will fall apart after 3 years? Or just needs to be repainted after 3 years? I'm kinda hoping for the planter boxes to last longer than 3 years. Also, do you line the inside with any special liner or just fill it with dirt? I was thinking I would line it so dirty water doesn't leak out the sides and stain the box and maybe that would help with the deterioration of the wood too. Thanks
I didn’t paint it for the first year and I wish that I had painted it. If you paint it periodically it should last a long time. My only concern would be the inside of the planter. I bet if you lined it with plastic it . would last a really long time. Thank you for your comment.
