Really liked you video but reminded me about the time in 1980 when I was framing in a window skylight. I was Standing on top of Ladder with my hammer and a few 16 penny nails and NO! safety glasses. Your hammering Position and swinging action is exacting the same as my eye accident. Lost my left eye for 20yrs and was able to restore it with a lens implant in 2001. I was using a well built hammer but never the less a piece chipped off the head and drove a piece of metal directly though my eye pupil. Just a reminder wear safety glasses Thanks for your video and take care ! Dave

if u dont want a birdy, you can always run jchannel from eave to rake and back to back it with zip screws. Go from vented soffit to plain. Depends on whos building is all. Thanks for the video

Nice instructional video. The only thing i would add, I think it is easier if you run the return up the rake further, enough to cover the entire width of the siding corner. That way you can just square cut the top of your corner, instead of having to trim it around the return and bringing it up to the overhang. If doing vinyl siding, you can then just return the j-channel that comes down the rake into the corner. If doing wood siding, its even easier. Hope this makes sense

I think that longer board nailed to the house is going to get in the way of the F channel. I just did one and I had to notch about an inch out of the bottom of the board to make room for the F channel.
@doityourselfdenniscom

I don't use f channel, I put my soffit up first and then put j channel up against the soffit to accept the siding. Sometimes I will also put undersill inside the j channel.

Why not build the return/ aka dutchman or queen anne while the gable is on the ground or bench build it? All you really need is the pitch of roof and length of overhang,cut a 12 side of that pitch from nothing to howevr long the line runs along that board. .Make two matching pieces and a 9" lon end block and nail it home. For a queen anne ,two times the length of the overhang ,and set your freeze rack in 4 1/4 if its to be bricked .Pole barn spike it into the wall/ gable face and tadah!!!

@@fastestmanon3legs454 What kind of siding are you planning to use? Normally regardless of the type siding, you should put plywood on the sides first, then the roof, then the siding. You don't have to neccesarily put the finish on the roof, but at the least dry or felt it in. Also you might want to use some bracing until you have the roof framed up and the plywood on.

No they aren't. Size of rafters is determined by the length. For the length of these rafters, 2 x6 are plenty.
@6string327
@6string327 6 лет назад
You can birds mouth the 2 x 10 rafters so they sit on the wall heads that way they can't side away. Much stronger job. 2 x 6 wouldn't work because the timber would be too weak with the notch.

We built ramps and did crazy stuff. My kids don't wear helmets and I still don't either. It must be expensive being you, enjoy snowflake.

Both of these are rookie comnents. Scaffolds only take 5 minutes to set up but not needed. Ladders are safer than scafolds of set up right. Ive seen people fall of of both. We use siding, framing and trim guns ourselves. Personally i feel using vinyl is not real construction thst falls under the line of building a plastic toy car. I build houses n yet to truly fing a real fascia, sofit, Cornice video with someone with real experience
