ReaperTV Absolutely, if it also allowed you to upload your own samples I think it would be perfect. Do you use the built in Reaper sampler to do that alongside EZ 2?

I generally don't use supplementary samples, but if I had the need to I would either use Superior Drummer 3 or Perfect Drums. SD3 if you want the most flexibility in sound and customization and PD if you just want a great sounding kit and add your own samples or simply replace all the kit with your own samples. 🙂

At 21:21 you talk about going back into Ez to get another part and then dropping that back in the daw. Wouldn’t that overwrite all your edits in the daw? How can you just insert the new material?

This is a great tutorial, thank you so much! One thing that you could add is that with the editing of parts in the song creator, you can also actually add new drum pieces like another hi-hat etc to the drum mix, and set amount etc to that, and the algorithm will include it to the pattern.

I recently downloaded a trail of EZ Drummer 2. When I right click on my drum / song parts I do not have 'mute'... So it is still playing 2 versions of the drum track :( I have everything else that you have on right click, but no 'mute' option. Has 'mute' be removed on the latest version of EZ Drummer 2 or do I have to enable the 'mute' option?

Would like to see you explain midi drum mapping. For example, I have an like EZ Drummer 2. But my collaborator uses Addictive Drums. So if I spend hours crafting a drum track and he imports my session. The drums don't match. Is remapping between these drum programs possibly easy to do?

According to Toontrack, you cannot reassign the midi triggers used in EZ Drummer 2; it's a SD2 feature. POST 3: www.toontrack.com/forum/ezdrummer-pre-sales/how-to-assign-the-drum-kits-pieces-to-the-midi-keyboard/ I've never used AD, but it may be possible to do a one way swap. Personally, I would probably just Freeze the drum track so anyone you collaborate with wouldn't need to worry about having a specific drum software installed. :0)

I know this is six years on, but does anyone know if you can separate the different drums onto their own tracks once you have the drum track on Reaper.? This might be an obvious question, but I haven't committed to downloading Reaper yet. I'm still tossing up which DAW to get after being frustrated with the limitations of Mixpad.

Love EZD2! Only issue I have is the "tap 2 find" function is so delayed from my clicks to the actual drum hits that I can't even use it properly. Suggestions @ReaperTV?

Take a look at the drivers your using for your audio input. Adjust the samples to see if it helps with the latency issue :0)

Nice video, im really happy using reaper. i would like that you make a video using the latency compensation, because i use ez drumer and my guitars always keep a little bit of latency (4ms), and its not a problem recording because i use direct monitoring, but in the result i can feel the latency, and i think the latency compensation would resolve that problem but i have not figure out how to use it. YOU ARE THE BEST thx for reaper :)

Tweak your ASIO settings in your audio settings.

Unless your playing with headphones constantly or your face is pressed to your amp cab, the latency naturally is around 4-6 ms , assuming your standing/ sitting 4-6 ft from your sound source. 4ms should be indistinguishable from " real time" as far as the brain is concerned. Hope that helps,

If you doubt these words, feel free to research how fast sound waves travel. That time it takes for your ear to hear and process the vibration is latency.

EZ Drummer is definitely aimed at the song writer and SD2 more at the person who wants to get as close to real drums as possible with samples.

You can think of it like this: EZDrrummer2 for songwriting. Superior Drummer 2 is for producers.

Thanks for the vid.. always need help with EZDrummer2....No mute option in EZDrummer2 when right clicked on the track in song creator....? The only way was to undo "Follow Host" button.

That's because you're running the app twice, you don't need to load it up on the desktop if you're going to be running it in Reaper. You should be able to just open the FX window inside Reaper and have control of the entire plugin from there. The desktop version would just be for messing around whenever you're not going to be working inside Reaper. Guitar Rig works in the same way.

Instead of muting inside EZDrummer, can't we just close EZDrummer? I suppose then we will only here the drums from the drum track, and not the ones from inside EZDrummer.

I noticed left to the Song Creator Button there lies the "Follow Host" Button that at one time in your presentation was the metronome button which is now allowing you to interface directly with your DAW (Reaper). I am new to using EZdrummer and I would like to know how to setup this function? Thanks!

You must of been using Ezdrummer in stand alone mode, there will be no 'follow host' button in stand alone mode(that's when you open up exdrummer not inside your DAW as a plug in and use it as a stand alone programme)....when you open up ezdrummer as a plug in.. in your DAW the 'follow host' button should be there.

Hoping you can get back to me. I'm using EZdrummer2 in Logic. I can't find the mute option, and I'm worried now that it's running two simultaneous instances of the plugin and overloading my output, as you suggest here with Reaper. Have I got that right? What can I do? I select the entire arrangement in EZdrummer and bring up the right-click context menu. But no mute.

Same here ...no mute button! did you sort this out? The only thing I noticed is if you turn of 'follow host' that stops the drum tracks playing in Ezdrummer 2....it then only plays through the DAW!

I fixed the issue, you just need to update Ezdrummer to latest update.

Blaydrnnnr ... I think the other option to silence the drums in ezdrummer is to simply turn off 'follow Host' in ezdrummer.

Thanks. Yeah, I think thats what I did. Its been awhile since I was following this. I have to be honest, I'm having so much trouble just building a decent drum track for simple recording, that I've kinda given up on this for now. But thanks for the reply.

I don't tend to use the VSTi's in Reaper to be honest and I didn't know there was any guitar modelling options. What's the name of the VSTi? I'll have to check it out :0)

For guitar modeling in Reaper I use MusicLab's Real guitars (RealGuitar, RealStrat, RealLPC, RealRick, RealEight) and IK Multimedia's AmpliTube as guitar amp simulator. I use this combination also outside Reaper, for live music on stage (using Brainspawn's Forte as VST host application). MusicLab's guitars are very configurable and thanks to its keyswitches I can play a lot of guitar techniques using only my masterkeyboard and three pedals - sustain, expression (used as wah-wah) and switch (used for example for switching normal and overdrived signal).

just wondering why ez drummer is running in bridged mode - is your reaper 32 bit? if so what advantages does that have?

No, it's 64 bit but I had an issue with some plugins that caused Reaper to be a bit flaky at times so set it up so Reaper opens independent instances of all plugins so if the plugin falls over Reaper stays working.

Right, I've got similar problems especially on big projects, I've got the preference set that's supposed to stop that but it still happens; I might give the separate process a go, does it affect anything else or is it a pain in the arse at all?

Btw I'm a big fan of ezmix although I feel guilty using it but no amount of eq's compressors etc can get my bass tone as good as ezmix does with 2 instances haha

Apart from the extra pop up opening when you open an FX nothing else has been a problem for me. 👍🏻 I agree about EZ Mix. I'm sure there are people who consider it cheating, but I'm more about the end result personally 😊

Well you don't need to deal w/a live drummer & his GF lol & EZ Drummer don't cry "I can't play that " or needs to be fed….haha I still can't find MIDI grooves that to my like'n I tend to have some off time odd type grooves a mixture of styles in my songs. But then again I'm not a drummer I need to get better at playing the parts in.

Very thorough explanations and demos. I just picked up EZ Drummer 2 and this really helps. One suggestion is to keep in mind viewing your videos on an iPad... Very small detail without you zooming in a little bit as needed here and there! Thanks for this.
