I really like how you did the extension wing!! Does suck when stick on tapes are not accurate, so far I've been lucky as my fast Cap has matched my fast Cap tape BUT also matched my woodpecker items!!
I have a Makita LS1219L, looks exactly as yours. What a friggin heavy tool it is. About to finish my miter saw station, decided to create a dust hood for it, hopefully it's going to be worth the extra work and material. As I expected, the hood ended up being quite big to account for all of the miter cuts and different angles.
Great looking table. I like your idea about making your top 1/2" taller in case you change saws. This happened to me when I went from a Craftsman to my Metabo...
That’s a very neat, compact unit, Matt - nice job! I especially like the extension: it saves having roller supports or the like cluttering up the shop.
Thank you for sharing those little frustrations and mistakes! It's too easy to get frustrated thinking you're the only one who drops and inch on the occasional cut. Love the content on your channel.
you should make a challenge coin rack or display case for challenge coins! maybe even hang in shop for viewers to send in and view in background of videos?
That looks sick, love the walnut banding! The drawers being inset would drive me crazy though, I would've tried to copy the top where the front of the drawer was angled with it.
Looks amazing I am wondering I plan to get the Dewalt 12in 15 imp where the slides come out the back will this stand have enough clearance on the back side or do I just space it out from the wall a little?
My miter saw is a combination of... I have an older Ryobi chop saw and an old Craftsman Radial Arm Saw for wider cuts. My RAS is set at 90° only because changing the angles throws the whole thing out of square. I'm hoping to build a miter saw station that incorporates both saws here in the near future.
I have the Hercules HE78 HarborFreight miter saw. It’s a great saw. My only issue is the sliding rods protrude about 9”-10” past the standard size to about 44”. So I’m trying to figure out the best way to configure the miter saw station. I really don’t want to build a 40” deep base cabinet because it’ll take up too much space. I’m thinking about putting the whole station on wheels so I can roll forward when I have to make straight cuts. Any thoughts I’d appreciate it.
I have a very old Dewalt that doesn’t slide. I know from other things you said that space is a concern so I am curious why you didn’t pick the Bosch GCM12SD?
I recently bought the Metabo 10" miter saw. It has the same side slide system as your Makita. It seems to be fine so far. I'm NOT impressed with the dust collection tho.
Man sakes alive! This build is summore purdy! Lol. Love it brother! Great job! My favorite part is that inset drawer closest to the saw. Again Brother, well done!
I was going to build a long bench along the west wall of my 16 x 32 small shop. I need cabinet space bad. Now I am building two of these. A left and right, one for my sliding compound miter, the other for my radial arm saw. Some may ask why I need both saws. Well I love cutting plywood with the radial arm saw in belly buster mode. LOL No I just like straight crosscutting much better on my RAS. Small pieces of like 1 1/2" long dowel my miter saw flings it as it finishes the cut. My RAS it stays right where it was cut. I even made a nice oak plywood table and fence on my RAS. That way I would never be tempted to cut miters on my RAS unless I just have to. I can use two of these to support longer boards. Not to mention if I want to move my shop around this would be much better.
I have the Bosch 12 inch mitre saw which I still have to make a station for and I'm now going to look at adding the wing to the cabinets which is what I like about what you did
12 inch rigid and basically all my tools are rigid from drills to my 13 inch planer except for my 14 inch bandsaw. I have just built a 12x12x12 work shop and am looking for different ways to organize it however I might leave my table saw in the garage to save on space. As always thanks for the videos eph 2:8
I just bought the plans as I think this will fit much better than the junkie one I built a number of years ago for my 14' x 16' shed shop, I use the Worse Task Force 10" mitre saw
I have that miter saw, but I can't seem to adjust it so that the scribe cuts line up with the plunge action. They are off enough that it's pretty visible and I rarely use the slide action. ;( Disappointed, and I went through a few of them and they all had the same issue with each. Does yours have any alignment issue between the plunge and slide action?
Thanks to assholes telling everyone that pocket holes are ghetto garbage, now everyone feels obligated to say "pocket holes are fine for this use"... just use them where they make sense, and tell the haters to piss off.
Not only are you an excellent teacher and wood works ng specialist, I love your witness you silently portray in your clothing! That's an amazing part of your videos , together with all your skills. God Bless!
Hey matt your plans for this miter stationgives 2 different measurements for the cabinet side a the cut sheet say 25”x37” and the description page 5 says 24”x351/2 “ which one should I use
Im a big fan of your builds and channel style/personality. New sub here from Australia. Lots of inspiration and great honest processes without all that typical over hyped stuff of other channels. Keep up the great work and God bless 🤙
Matt, I have to admit the first time I saw this video, I wasn't in love with the mitersaw station. It's a great build it just didn't fit some of my needs, but I just watched the video again looking for ideas and seen how you did you top with the drawers. It's genius!!! It's just what I've been looking for. Thanks for the great idea. P.S. I'm trying to build it from 90% reclaimed materials, so I've named it my Frankinstation!! Lol
So what is the safety height that the miter saw and table saw should be? I’m short and the workbench that my saws are on are to high and make it awkward and uncomfortable to work safely. Chest level waist level? I want to build a table for both miter and table saw but I am clueless on the height. I’m at 5ft if I round up. 😉
It's a personal height. For me, my Miter Saw Station is 40" high but I am 5'11". My workbench is about waist high to me and that is comfortable to me. The miter station is about halfway between my chest and waist.
roughly how many sheets of plywood did this take to build? I only have one kidney to sale so need to make sure I will get enough before buying plywood.
I'm about to build a workbench, but I am like a lot of people and I'm working in a very small space. My workbench has to stored against the wall of the garage so the car can be parked inside. In order to maximize the top surface area of the workbench when it's away from the wall and in use, I want to add an extension. I like the way you did yours because there are no legs to trip on, but I am concerned that my extension may not remain level if any weight above 40 or 50 pounds is place on it. I will likely sit on a stool at the extension similar to a kitchen island, so I may go with legs that fold in and I'll use leveling feet to ensure that the extension remains level with the rest of the workbench. Love the content! It gives me lots of ideas!
@731Woodworks, you need to get the Dewalt right angle attachment that has the flexible extension piece. Check it out it’s model # is DWAMRASET . They sell it at home depot & it’s a major upgrade from the one you used in this video trust me!
Hey Jeff. Yes, I'd say it is better than the DeWalt in some ways. But had a few minor annoyances I didn't care for so I returned it and purchased a Festool Kapex.
Nice station. Too bad I don't even have that much room in my little shop. I've been using the HF Hercules Sliding Compound Miter Saw for about 2 years now and it's never missed a cut. It's accurate and stable. Well worth my investment. I've cut thousands of cuts both 90 degrees and 45 plus other cuts. All accurate. It'll cut a 5 inch block like its melted butter.
You asked about miter saws. I currently have 2. My 12" dually slider Delta is currently at our cabin in West Virginia while I'm finishing out the cabin build. In the meantime, I picked up the 10" dually slider Bauer from Harbor Freight, and the adjustability and solid construction of that saw was a pleasant surprise. I really like it so far. Had it a couple months, and I feel like it took me three tune-up sessions to get it dialed in completely. So far it's perfect enough.
Very cool. I'm going to be attempting this with some minor changes (no wing - yet, and a few drawers in the smaller lower cabinet). My question is, did you just put the 1/4 plywood back directly on the back of the cabinet carcasses? It looks like you did since it seemed to be one solid piece. Thanks for the awesome content. Definitely learning a lot.
Matt, thank you for sharing this idea. My shop is even smaller than yours and uses about 3/5 of a one car garage. My miter saw is currently on what I believe is a cabinet that used to be in the kitchen next to the stove. I added the extension wing onto my miter saw station and because I don’t have any sort of in feed table, I actually added a drawer slider so that I can extend it even further, and it gives me an extra 24 inches. Because of the drawer slider it wound up being a little beefier than your build but I love it. Thanks again. You just helped make my shop safer.
Best visual feature: featuring plywood face grain with walnut accents. Got a Craigslist Festool Kapex just completely rebuilt under warranty. I like your design but have a different set of requirements and materials on hand. I make a beeswax blend finish, too, though I recommend it only for kitchenware and intend to apply multiple coats of slightly thinned and finely sanded water based poly followed by traditional Johnson's wax to my shop furniture.
My pastor just gave me his old miter saw: an old Ridgid he used at the youth camp for years. I'm looking to build a miter saw station for my small garage shop now. Thanks for the tips!!
Nice and compact with plenty of storage. I love that! Especially since I don't have a lot of room at the moment. You can always get some plugs to hide your pocket holes if it bothers you that much. No one else would probably notice them, because the entire set up looks so nice.
Matt, how well does the Festool dust extractor collect dust from the Makita saw? I'm looking to buy one, and I'm wondering if this is adequate. Thank you!
It worked very good. Especially when not sliding the saw. When sliding, the design of the Mikita throws up quite a bit of dust. But when not sliding the dust collection is one of the best I’ve seen.
@@731Woodworks Thanks much. I have just bought the Makita and am looking to build a cabinet something like and learning from yours. This is helpful too. Many thanks. I enjoy your work!
