Note: I select clips with insights from these much longer conversation with the hope of helping make these ideas more accessible and discoverable. Ultimately, this podcast is a small side hobby for me with the goal of sharing and discussing ideas. For now, I post a few clips every Tue & Fri. I did a poll and 92% of people either liked or loved the posting of daily clips, 2% were indifferent, and 6% hated it, some suggesting that I post them on a separate RU-vid channel. I hear the 6% and partially agree, so am torn about the whole thing. I tried creating a separate clips channel but the RU-vid algorithm makes it very difficult for that channel to grow unless the main channel is already very popular. So for a little while, I'll keep posting clips on the main channel. I ask for your patience and to see these clips as supporting the dissemination of knowledge contained in nuanced discussion. Colin Angle is the CEO and co-founder of iRobot, a robotics company that for 29 years has been creating robots that operate successfully in the real world, not as a demo or on a scale of dozens, but on a scale of thousands and millions. As of this year, iRobot has sold more than 25 million robots to consumers, including the Roomba vacuum cleaning robot, the Braava floor mopping robot, and soon the Terra lawn mowing robot. 25 million robots successfully operating autonomously in people's homes to me is an incredible accomplishment of science, engineering, logistics, and all kinds of entrepreneurial innovation.

Lex Fridman My dad is a Civil Engineer and I’m almost done with Engineering Physics, I know there is many many complications, with building robots for AEC (Architecture Engineering and Construction) but I find this to be real problem, as I know with first hand experience that the Construction Industry Project either always go over budget or over time. (The Schedule in which the project was to be done. What do you think? We definitely need this to accelerate, us building a City on Mars.

Rule number 1: Solve a real problem

Mowing grass, cleaning drive way, cleaning trash on sidewalks and along highways, cleaning trash in the ocean and on the beach, pushing trash cans to end of street or to a dumpster, cleaning toilets, cleaning public restrooms, cleaning cars, delivering packages, delivering mail, cleaning and sterilization of emergency rooms, running food from kitchen to guest, getting up in the middle of a movie to go get some more snacks and drinks, taking your dogs out to play and poop and pee in the middle of working at home, catching a venomous snake or pest safely and releasing it back into the wild . Just simple chores that take up your time and push you out of flow state or anyway that can help handicapped people

And then there is the vacuum company Dyson. There are lots of great vacuums on the market. Oh well, the Dyson vacuums are good, I know from personal experience because my boyfriend bought one. So he bought one and it is harder to use than mine. 15 year old dirt devil upright, and in my favorite color, purple. When I bought it, it was expensive it was 80 something dollars. They were dirt devils that were less expensive but they weren’t purple so I bought the purple one. 15 years later, it still works and it’s not only just as good as the Dyson that my boyfriend bought but it’s easier to use. That said, I think Dysons real power is that they do a lot of advertisements. I think advertising is there a real model. They were very successful company. But for the money you could buy a dirt devil or a lot of other vacuums that are much cheaper work easier I don’t cost nearly as much. I say all this, because yes, solving a real world problem is what is important at the same time there are technology driven products on the market that really are not any better, are far more expensive but are successful because they do a hell of a lot of advertising. The Dyson vacuums are one of them.

ok yeah thats great and all but real world product roomba (vision) vs Roborock (LIDAR).... Roborock is cheaper and in 3 party testing the roborock does way better price performance.

I learnt from after meet up several customers. They want something cheaper than human. And the fact is, human salary is super cheap compared to robot solutions. And those people who actually need like very intelligent robot are the ones who dont have money. Customers who are rich, that means they already have an automated business that they dont need one robot can do multiple tasks, they can build factories and make manufacturing machines and lines with automated machines that are doing only one task each machine. So, do not make robot, make automated machines is much more easier and more chance to meet correct clients. Otherwise you will be very tough to survive. Or, if you was born in a rich family or you have relation with government such as communist China that they use unfair funding tactics, then you may survive
