This really is a great video. At the beginning and I saw your diagram/plans I thought… no way I’m gonna be able to do that. But you do such a great job at explaining the system and why you have the holes where you have them. Great explanation. I sent you an email requesting the diagram/plans.

Thanks Peter. You were responding to my request just as I was watching the video again in order to get the overall dimensions of the two tops. The supplier will make one cut of the MDF for free, so I will ask them to cut the sheet 68 inches with 28 remaining. There is a northeaster headed into New England tomorrow and I would like to get the material into my shop before I am snowed in. This is perfect. Thanks again.

Hi Peter I watched this again as the first "cutting station" I made was a bit off for a couple of the rows. I didn't pay attention to locating the critical first rows carefully enough and certainly didn't clamp the rails. I need to make another one and will be careful to follow your advice precisely to make sure I get it right this time. A bit too much haste initially has made for a lot more work in the end! Mike

I have been waiting for this video so I could build an "Official Parf Top" I have the Parf 2 Kit, (2) Parf Fences and I have made (2) previous tops but I never really have had a pattern that worked well with the two parf fences. I remembered you said in a previous video you were planning to build a new table which would utilize 2 parf fences and now you've done it. Thanks. Now off to my shop to build mine.

That cutting station is a brillant idea! I'm going to build one on a torsion box that can rotate to serve as a clamping / gluing table, inspired by the multifunction shop cart designed by Thimothy Wilmot. I should stop watching videos and start cutting wood though: almost everyday I find new ideas and then spend an indecent amount of time modifying my plans.
@nathanduitch2521
@nathanduitch2521 3 года назад
I thought about this but how do you support the top and still have room for the festool clamps to be able to spin 360 degrees underneath the top? With 96mm centers there no room, if you did double the space between the holes there would be room for clamps but farther space between holes.
@chipsterb4946

Bragon I’m in the same boat! I keep watching videos, saying “well that’s brilliant” but don’t fit all of the tidbits together into a functional plan. I’d like an assembly table that incorporates a cutting station in part of the top…

I’m home with a shoulder injury and have nothing but time but to plan out a multi functional work station that would serve me well. Good point about the drill guide twisting in a new Parf stick. I ordered a third stick just because I wanted one, and had to do similar to fit the drill guide into the 3mm hole. It is very very snug. I also substitute the Parf dogs with tall dogs to drill the 20mm holes.

I'm new to woodworking and as such, I've decided to educate myself as much as possible to get a great setup from the start. I've been watching many videos from other RU-vidrs discussing various UJK products and I am convinced that UJK makes the best products out there and from what I can see so far, you are responsible for that, so I thank you very much! I am definitely intrigued by your table setup, as I have noticed it in an other video I just watched, and I'm very excited to the prospect of receiving your plans for it. Hi Peter I followed your "obsessional" repeating of the need to locate the pins and guides very carefully and clamp the Parf sticks at the early stages. I am quite sure that failing to take proper care over this was the cause of my first cutting station (about which we corresponded) being slightly " off" on two of the rows of holes. I will make sure I take as much care when I make the next one and on the Paulk or Dennis benches I am going to make next. Thanks for the extra careful tutorial this time, a lesson well,learned. Mike PS you could use the long piece from the side of the board as a Paulk sacrificial strip to protect your smart new cutting station for a long time.

Hi Mike, I wish I had made this video ages ago. I had serious problems editing, first because my video camera decided to choose its own white balance (probably finger trouble on my part). and then because I had produced so much footage. I had to do some savage cutting which does show I am afraid. Take care. Peter

New Brit Workshop Actually not so Peter. I suspect that you are more critical as you know what was edited. It all hung together very well and the strong emphasis on the critical details was important and will certainly save a few mistakes ( like mine). It was a really helpful video and I learned several critical stages which will be very helpful on future projects. Not sure I am quite up to the extra isometric holes but I will look at that later. Could you send me the plans for the new layout.

Peter I enjoyed your design here I purchased your system and are going to build my first cutting station and would like a copy of your design. Also if I could recommend a design to promote your sales I would recommend you come up with a design utilizing Bench dog UK quad dog hing rail guide. They selling there own tool for drilling the offset holes to place the mounting holes. As your system supports the 48mm offsets you could show that your tool provides the spot on locations that there tool would not be required. If I follow the design correctly first holes 35mm from the edge then next 48mm between row then standard 96mm spacing. Same on the opposite sides. this could support from anywhere on the top either end or edge. I have all my assortment supper dogs and guides I just want to expand the designs and options for all these accessories for a top we make using your guide system. Thanks again

Though i think that setting up my track saw and cut is taking very long time every time and if i want to cut many things at the same time they never bee that accurate. So i think this is brilliant and thinking of making my own. Love the idea of having master pins for hooking up the ruler is brilliant, i were thinking on something like pins that fit the groove under. But it makes it hard to adjust the height. Will se if there is some hooks that fit my Makita ruler and then i might be able to make my own cutting station at home :D

Hello Peter, i am watching your channel since the first episode. You are doing a great job 👏!! Since then, no small thanks to your tool inventing ingenuity, i became a good customer with Axminster. I do own the MK ii and have build some small cutting benches. One irritation i have (and i did already buy a new second 20mm drill) when setting it in the 3mm predrilled hole and starting the cut, it wobbles (it actually shakes the drill guide). This happened with the brand new one out of the box as well. I tried using different drill machines, but did not improve. I did not see your drill guide moving in the video, so i wanted to ask, if you habe any advice? Thx so much, and keep up the fabulous work. RGDS from Germany K.

Hi, I've been watching several videos lately and am now on a waiting list for the MK II Parf Guide System, hopefully within a couple of weeks. I've been planning on building a station, and from watching a few videos on different systems, this system does appear to be the best setup and most accurate across the whole top. Peter, thanks for all the videos. As a novice woodworker I have been learning a lot. This is a great video. I am in the process of making my own cutting table. At 3' by 6' I'll be modifying the layout some. I am curious about some of your choices. (For example, I understand why you put rows at 1, 5, and 7, but other choices aren't clear to me.) I think another video explaining your choices and showing how you use it for different cuts would be very nice. One choice I'm very curious about is positioning of the guide rail. The MFT puts it off center but you have it close to center.

Hi Peter, Great video. Just received my MkII directly from Axminster (wasn't available anywhere in the EU). I'm currently figuring out how to layout my table. I really like your layout. Offers everything I need, but i will probably add a few more holes for 45°. Wouldn't it be better to have the isometric pattern based on row 7 so you can acutally have the cut fully supported on the table? Or shifted two rows to the right? In your layout it seems the material and saw would be of the table for 60°cuts. Thats assuming you angle the material and not the track.

Hi Peter, thanks for the video! I must have watched it 5 times now putting plans together for my workbench. One question - as the isometric lines are in reference to the line on which the guide track attaches, rather than the kerf line, would this not cause an issue with material overhanging the bench at the top (and the saw off the table when making the cut) when making cuts along the whole width of the material? Is the intention to move the track onto the isometric lines rather than referencing the material against those lines? Think I will make the isometric lines in reference to the kerf lines, do you see any issue with this? Many thanks
@NewBritWorkshop

Hi Mark, I must confess that the Isometric lines are just a starting point and more may need to be added. My idea is that one has the guide rail (and so the kerf line) in the same place for all cuts. Peter

Hi Peter . Received my plans thank you. It may sound stupid but if i put a piece of timber or board on the 60 degree line and make a cut don't i get a 30 Degree angle cut on the piece of timber under the track, you only the 30 degree cut on the piece that is cut off, and vise versa for the 30 degree line get a 60 degree cut. so if you want a 60 degree cut on the piece your cutting you put it on the 30 degree line. Hi Peter, I wonder if you could clarify something please. I obtained the plans from you some weeks ago and finally got around to creating a cutting station today. Or should I say partially thanks to the rain. I've got as far as making the isometric holes for the top, using the equilateral triangles, and I think these are for the 60 degree holes. However, when I've looked at your video again I've noticed that around 26:40 into the video a further isometric line appears on your cutting station, just to your right, which I think is for the 30 degree line, but unless I'm mistaken there's no comments as to how it gets there. I'm presuming, for accuracies sake, that you've used the parf system in some way or was it simply done by dissecting the side of the equilateral triangle and drawing a line back to the point. I'm sure I've probably missed something along the way, so I'd be grateful if you could just clarify it for me as my brain seems to have gone into meltdown. As always, thanks for the great videos that you produce and thanks in anticipation of any guidance you may be able to offer.
@NewBritWorkshop
@NewBritWorkshop 3 года назад
Hi Jon, I made the 30 degree lines as follows. First do the 3 mm holes that form the 60 degree triangle which has the side parallel to the top of the piece of wood. Next do the two 60 degree lines that meet in a point at the top left of the guide rail. Let us call that point where they meet "A".If you now look carefully you will see that the holes that are on the two 60 degree lines (that meet in a point A) that are 3 times 96 mm from point A lie on a horizontal line where the spacing is 96 mm between hole centres. Place a Parf Ruler across these, using the 3 mm pins to secure it in place. You can now drill the 3 mm holes that are on the 30 degree line, first on the left and then moving the ruler to do the one on the right. Once these first 30 degree holes are done you can lay a Parf Ruler along each of the 30 degree lines to do the remaining holes. Peter

Very nice system indeed! I have a question and a recommendation if you dont mind: why 96mm spacing between 20mm holes and not 100mm? Any specific reason for this? Also I think the next upgrade would be to create a miter gauge that would perfectly fit this system and would allow for any degree cut apart from 30,45,60,90.
@NewBritWorkshop
@NewBritWorkshop 4 года назад
Hi Aristos, Thank you for your suggestions. The 96 mm spacing is based on the Euro standard and makes setting up for modular kitchen and shelving units very easy. It is possible to get near perfect 30, 45, 60 and 90 degree cuts with the top. A mitre gauge would be less accurate - for example I get 90 degree cuts to within 0.00016 of a degree and getting a mitre gauge that can be set to that accuracy would be tricky. Cheers. Peter
@aristosandreou267
@aristosandreou267 4 года назад
@@NewBritWorkshop I understand and indeed this produces some impressive results. Nevertheless apart from dead accuracy there is also the productivity point of view. If I spend the money to purchase this system (which i am seriously considering as I own a Makita SP6000K) then i would love to be able to use it at its maximum potential. A detailed engineered miter gauge might not be as accurate as the standard angles but is the only thing missing for this system to be used as a true table saw replacement.
