finally a video that is 100 percent the correct way to do this application. The tricky part here in NY is that ready mix companies like to send you a hot load of concrete and then it becomes a nightmare. Also did you find it relatively easy to float in the aggregate to be exposed or did you have to really work it in to get it to sub level. please advise. This is the best job I have seen. from the steel layout to the dead men piers. Really well thought out plan. thank you. also post a update!!!
He didn't do the job, he is the customer, owner of the house where the workers did the job for him. But he made a very good video with a very good description of the process. .
How long should you wait? Exactly 1 hour and 10 minutes and it will be ready. Give me a break what a stupid question there's so many variables how dry did you pour it or how hot of a day it is is it in the sunshine is there a calcium chloride there's as many ways as there are finishers to do concrete and their way is always the best way
jermzdee It depends, spray a retardant (sugar water with dye) on top of your normally finished concrete minus your broom job. Then come back several hours later and was off with hose. Depending on weather you may need a pressure washer or you may even need a broom. It's actually a very easy process. You can order your mix with pee gravel or just a regular concrete mix however you choose. This is one way to do it. Also some people cover the concrete with plastic after they spray the retardant on (depending on weather, temperature, humidity etc.). You may wash off same day, or come back the next morning and wash off. Then some choose to come back a week or so later and do a acid wash (muriatic acid). I hope this helps.
Every time I've hired a concrete guy to pour walkway, or patio for me, I get into argument with him over the use of 2 inch dobies. I don't know what's their problem, either they're stupid, or trying to cut every corner to cheat me! Last walkway, I ended up buying a couple dozen from H.D the night before myself, because I knew the sun of a bitch contractor wouldn't do it, and I was right. Now, they insist that "oh you don't need it!" because as they pour they reach inside the mix, grab the rebar and pull it up. That is plain stupidity. You can not ensure consistent height of rebar matrix over the entire slab, you might pull up a spot and feel like you're done, but you're missing the whole point of using rebar. If the wire mesh, or rebar does not sit near the mid section of the slab, it WILL CRACK! In fact, I've seen demolitions where idiots didn't use dobies, and guess what, the rebar's not even embedded into the mix, its sitting in the dry gravel below, and that does nothing to reinforce the concrete. Concrete contractors are dicks like Jeff, that's why everyone want to do everything DiY, not to save money but to avoid dicks like Jeff and a couple of Tom's here.
A one man job? You clearly have no idea the manpower needed for pouring and finishing a concrete driveway plus walkway with exposed aggregate requires. For a simple concrete driveway you need at least 3-4 persons; concrete will not wait for you. .
