Bit late but I have a couple of suggestions for the rear point. For my godson's layout I tried piano wire with newspaper wrapped around it and coated in PVA, work the wire back and fore as it dries, you get a nice wire-in-tube point control. I used cheap 5mm floor insulation sheet (the green stuff, you have to score it with a knofe to glue it down) but I also did something similar with 'insertion jointing' intended for concrete roads and empty biro tubes for the wire which survived for years outside. Both can have a groove cut in them for the tube. For another layout I used heavy nylon fishing line (I think is was good for 40lbs), one to each side of the point lever (that one was Fleichman track) routed down through the baseboard and out through the front fascia with coloured beads on the ends.

Nice little layout. I actually had the same signal box on my first layout and also some SIKU vehicles. One small idea that I had while watching the video is that on one side of the tunnel you could have placed the tunnel portal after the points, making it seem like there is a second (or third, if you consider both tunnel ends to represent separate tunnels) tunnel that branches off. It could be the start or end of a branch line, a connection to another railway system, or a connection to an industry. Mining goes well with tunnels and narrow gauge, but it could also be something different, like for example a maintenance access to a dam in a difficult to reach location (as can be really found in Japan). Anyway that's just a small idea I had while watching since I'm currently thinking about layout planning myself.

Hey The layout looks like it's beginning to take shape and looking great. And I like the idea of bigger videos, my layout updates are bigger as well, they allow people to track (forgive the pun) progress a little easier. Can I ask where the first taller signal box went? Cheers Olly

For the drill for the flexitrack, try using a 0.9MM bit for the Peco track pins

Good Morning Mike, What a fantastic layout.. packed with lots of potential. If I may just add some constructive advice .. with narrow gauge layouts “ More is less” 😎👍 Kindest regards Dan

Hi Dan, thanks. Yes we are a bit unconventional and like to cram lots in, personal preference I guess.

Hi Mike, Hope no offence was caused by my earlier comment.. was Never intended that way. My sincere apologies if you were offended 🙂🙏 Every modeller is different and diversity is certainly what keeps this fantastic hobby growing all the time. Much like you guys, I like to give different perspectives/food for thought. Kindest regards Dan

Hi Dan, totally no offence taken at all, like you say its diversity that keeps the hobby going and fresh, if we were all the same the hobby would be really boring!

I'm looking at real railways and you will find sidings nearly alway run parallel to the main line. This would give more space for industry, town or docks and canals..what do you think ?
@BudgetModelRailways
@BudgetModelRailways Год назад
On my model railways sidings tend to have to go where there is room lol

I know this layout is on hold at the moment but what I would like to know is what track brand of track are you using? Also how much was it as 009/H0e is still up and coming there is not a lot of 2nd hand track.
@BudgetModelRailways
@BudgetModelRailways 6 лет назад
It's actually N gauge track made by Peco bought second hand. The sleepers are wrong but I simply couldn't afford to buy new 009 track which would have cost £80+ , and have never seen second hand 009
@alexhill9169
@alexhill9169 6 лет назад
I was considering buying N track 2nd hand and butchering sleepers off it to make it more in line with 009, just because I costed my small layout at over £120 for just the 009 track.
@BudgetModelRailways
@BudgetModelRailways 6 лет назад
I toyed with at least cutting away every other sleeper. Two other options are to model a dockside so the track is covered by concrete/cobbles etc, or hide it with ballast and lots of static grass for an over grown look. Or as I did, just ignore the difference?
