Building a plane someone else designed would be so boring....I appreciate your persistence and confidence-it is not a mistake if you use it to improve your design....and it worked. Thank you for expressing your enthusiasm and determination, very refreshing!
How you don't have millions of subscribers I don't understand. You are one of the most entertaining makers, down to earth, clumsy at times, and always funny. It always makes my day when there is new video to be watched! You can practice flying with a mini-drone maybe. Or is it very different? Your video actually reminded me and my family spending days to get my DJI Spark down from the top of a 23m tree. To the patience of my family we finally succeeded, so now I can get it into even harder to reach places!
I watched his vacuum video two years ago on a different computer. Back then I didn't have a youtube account or might have not realized that he does stuff like that on a regular basis. Luckily, I saved the browser tab and just noticed my mistake :) P.S.: I'm from Germany and lots of stuff somehow reminds me of home, although it is Poland, that's funny. I really like the oak trees he has. It's cool that he talks in English so I can understand it :)
I didn't see you mention this in the video, the motor produces torque which makes the plane turn in one direction, like what was happening earlier in your tests. If you orient the motor to point a few degrees to one corner (I believe it should be left/up judging on your tests) then it should help cancel out that roll and you would need less dihedral.
@@nikodembartnik super! Cieszę się ze mogłem pomóc. Wpadł mi jeszcze jeden pomysł. Zamiast przerabiać mocno cały model może dołożyć lotki? Dwie sterowane na jednym serwie . Serwo nad skrzydłem, dwuramienny orczyk do lewej i prawej lotki. Żeby wzmocnić model można okleić go taśmą pakową i wprasować ją żelazkiem (najlepiej starym, bo potrafi się klej z krawędzi taśmy poprzyklejać).
I have the same exact glider. Now I'm going to try a conversion with spare parts. I've had the thought, but wanted to see one done on the exact foam fuse, so awesome and thank you! Great job!
Just got all the exact components but off Ali express. Just recently got into planes after now been doing fpv with multi rotors for years and have 8 quads. And one plane so can’t wait to build this guy, everything the same parts as you
kilka miesięcy temu myślałem nad zrobieniem właśnie takiego samolotu i dołożeniem arduino nano i podłączyć reciver do portu pwn razem z serwami i esc, i spróbowac zrobić autopilota(automatyczne utrzymanie wysokości). Myślę ze to to fajny pomysł na odcinek. Robisz zajebiste filmiki pozdro z Torunia.
Great idea, really liked your perseverance. I've built a few flying contraptions from scratch and would like to point out a few things. When testing a RC plane, it is best to first do a bunch of glide/unpowered tests, that'd get you info on how the plane behaves on its own. It'll also let you know if your GC is right or not, if your plane tends to roll, if your control surfaces have enough authority. Adding power can induce new variables like torque and yawing due to that torque, attitude changes, etc. Also, bending the wings like you did will introduce added drag and will reduce the wing's lift capabilities, shopping the wings in half and adding bracing to add dihedral would have been a better solution. In a rudder and elevator only plane, always shoot for bigger rudder and elevators than on a aileron, rudder, and elevator plane. Also, your plane is a bit tail heavy, that's why it was so twitchy to controls input.
Congratz on getting such a small plane to fly and be controllable. There are smaller electronics available, such as 5 gram servos, which will add little to the price, any weight reduction is huge for the performance of small aircraft. As you noticed the servo placement in foam will weaken the airframe, you can use the weight of those servos to move the CG forward (long push rods are lighter than long servo wires !!!). Very entertaining, well told story. Kudos for showing your failures along with your successes.
Good idea ! I have think to build the same from this low cost airplains. The contruction is on the way good, but the Problem is the draw torgue of the electric motor.
Huh,small world! I've just bought a foam plane, one just like this, and I've had the same idea of converting it into an rc plane! And this was one of the first videos that I've found regarding building a styrofoam rc plane!
To retrieve objects stuck in trees, a weight attached to a light string allows you to throw it and shake the branch its stuck in. Here is an example video by a professional tree climber using a throw weight and line. You can use any light string and anything for a weight, ie kite string and some washers.
Build a high wing training style plane with slower flight characteristics. Amazing project, but that little bird will need to move quickly and will be very twitchy to control!
My other comment somehow disappeared after I added a link. I planned to build such a plane since before Corona. It might have been summer 2018. Now I have a model how to start and I just found an article about 1km long range wifi for the ESP32. I just won't link it, to prohibit my post from disappearing again. Do you think, that there might be a path using even smaller DC engines? Using two of them could save me from using the rudder. Technically I should start copying your motor-propeller test setup first ^^
There is a lot guys already made such foam glider conversion, why you not used their designs? - that could save you a lot of time. For example "Ground Control RC" made this conversion in few ways
There is a huge difference in satisfaction when doing a 'copy cat' or 'reinventing the wheel'. Sweat and tears are quickly forgotten when that wheel start to turn. In case of Nico, I am quite sure that his main objective is to learn and to 'get there' not just to make a quick mindless item. Dlatego czesto wspominam Norwida 'Popiol i Diament'
heeeyyyyyy. brother not seen the vid yet (bcoz only one second passed). am making the same thing bought the gider and was searching for proper vid. from a month. and YtB recomends indyman.yeahhh
Thanks for this DISASTER video. This will helps me to do a right rc plane. First thing to be considered, the center of gravity then You can locate parts in the right place. The wings, why you bend the wings... this is a plane for hand throwing, first, you should test plane in the original shape... so you can fix those bends did from packing delivery.
Minds without any hero using a light weight receiver and as a provider going up on a catapult catch us thermals Course I don't have any wing warps and I'm an experienced contest glad a pilot... I've got the glider version from 3 years ago before it put in the the second slot for the elevator they fly much better than the ones that are sold on ebay now
information. at 5:14, the vert-stab is larger than needed; thus its Mass Could be reduced; by reducing its height, by say one inch.!!!! at 5:40, that is a WEIRD, OVER-large and heavy prop. the model seems under-powered; it is very probably heavy for its size. use the Lightest possible battery.! the prop is Too large for that motor (and for the model). an E prop Should be used; choose one whose diameter is equal to about 22 to 25 percent of the wingspan. MATCH the motor and prop specs. it would be nice if a LIGHTER esc could be used. googletranslate
at 4:23, WHY WHY WHY !!!!!! put the MASS of servos NEAR the cg.!!!!! control surface lengths should NOT BE TRUNCATED; as the rudder and elevator are.!!!!!!!!
