I've been into tiny houses for a while now. While their popularity has grown, there still aren't a ton of resources as far as seeing what it really takes to make one, start to finish. This is an awesome series and it's great that you're sharing each step and tips along the way. Good work!

Free design plans, step by step overview for the novice AND a cut list to cut everything at once and get going. You guys are amazingly generous!

I've seen a lot of tutorials and step by step builds for tiny houses and while this might not be the most comprehensive, the depth you guys achieve in such a short time span is enough to answer most peoples common questions. I'm impressed, earned a sub.

We can really see where your experience with editing and video presentation for your DIY projects is standing you in good stead. This is by far the clearest and easiest to understand series on any tiny house I have seen. I am not going to build a tiny house...but I was raised in a trailer (8 X 35 for 3 years and then 'the big house' 8 X 46 for the next 10...Navy family..so the only way to own something and not lose money reselling a house every 2-4 years). Having that experience..these sort of make me nostalgic and I am always interested to see the solutions for storage and room configuration. Thank you so much for all the tips and details. I am going to redo a wall in my kitchen and this info will make me feel a good deal more secure as I have only built furniture and shelving up to this point.

Nice job! I like the idea of building the walls along the eave sides in 1 whole section. Just an idea though. You could omit those oversized headers and put a 2x on the flat between the king studs. There's not much load above and this would reduce weight and thermal bridging. Looks great though!

Ana you are my hero! I've been following your projects for years. I'm so excited about your new show on HGTV! And I'm thinking about going as you for Halloween if i can think of a way to make that costume happen lol.

Can't wait to see your choice in doors and windows. I would imagine you need great insulation value in your climate. Did anyone ask you about your choice of trailer? Where you find a good one, what you'd avoid, and what to look for in reinforcing at the front end to be sure it can carry the weight. I frame like you do. If I had that shop space, I'd put in an overhead crane (even if lightweight) and lift the walls. Can't wait to see your progress.

Super cool video guys! A carpenter I know uses a router to cut his plywood out of his windows, not sure what bit, but it's crazy fast and leaves clean lines.

Hey there, please tell me if this is a bad suggestion, but another way you can get the openings is by drilling a hole once the plywood is up and then using a router. This way if you are not comfortable using a circular saw, or are weary of your lines, you will have an exact guide for the cutout. Finish rounded corners with a hand saw.

We are in the planning stages right now for a shed conversion into a tiny home but this has me thinking that putting it on wheels might be a better option. Love the design, just needs a bathroom! Thanks for going over the "why's". One question, are you concerned about movement or racking in your windows/doors? That's always been my big question about tiny homes that travel.

Great vids guys! I have a request - Some tiny house builders go with 16 on center and some 24 on center. Can you discuss a bit more about the pros and cons of going with 24? I'm trying to decide which is best for mine. I'll be moving it twice a year from so cal to nor cal.

Ana, I grew up in a carpenter household, but my dad wasn't keen on letting me use anything with a rotating/reciprocating blade lol so I never really got much experience with it. And though I don't scare easy, I can't say I'm super confident when I think about picking it up to start doing my own projects. Any hints to help? Also, I haven't held a nail gun in my hands for about 8 years now and even then it was more of my dad pointing, and I was shooting. I know you said you guys had other projects coming up, but I wondered if you could possibly do some how-to basics some time in the future? In this vid you went through the wall process of this tiny house, but if there could be a tutorial series that were more detailed on things for improving on existing structures? For instance framing out a wall, interior and exterior. Hanging a door, interior and exterior, and windows, etc., and what details there are for each, why you do it this way or that, just like you do how you do. I want to enclose our back porch and make it a work room, this would move the current back door from where it is now to the new back wall. I just need to create 3 walls, 1 exterior door and X windows. It's just a box up really, it's already got a roof. I know it's not impossible if you know what you're doing. I just... don't exactly lol I've never asked anything like this of anyone on youtube, you're the only construction instruction person I can watch. For my dad it was Bob Villa lol I'll take you for my generation!

How are the walls anchored down to the floor? I saw the floor video which you used large bolts to fasten it down, but won’t the walls take the most of any wind/movement on travel and need to be anchored well? Did you bolt them down to the trailer frame somehow as well or just nailed down to the floor joist?

how much wood did you'll use total for the main parts for the structure? all the way around for foundation and inside and out? and yess thanks because this was amazing to share as well as complete all at the same time.

We bought 4x8 7/16 8" LP smart panels primed for siding and are contemplating whether we need to sheath with plywood or if we can just use the smart panels as sheathing and siding. What would you recommend?

Do I need to do anything specific in terms of strengthening if I want my tiny house to have two levels and have a goose neck look with a room over the connection that attaches to the car?

Great videos! Can you attach wall frames to a floating floor thats been framed? We have a solid metal floor (bed) that we will be building on top of. Curious how to secure the floor or will floating be ok? We want to make sure the house won't move while driving.

I have been planing for 8x20 trailer for small shop but I was thinking of going all metal framing and metal outer siding. I haven't done any cost or weight comparison. Did you do any comparison as to metal vs wood? and if so how much of a materials price / weight difference was it? If you don't mind me asking.

Instead of using the typical stud build technique what about composite material not sure if I am using correct terms but it is a plywood foam plywood pressed together which is supposedly very strong, uses less space and is energy efficient plus weighs less. Is this something that can be used? Thank you again for these videos.

Does this work as well with steel studs? Meaning can I adapt your plans with steel 2x4 with wood headers?

hello you guys look like u do amazing work I have a few questions. I have a unfinished tiny house and its a wreck. It was partially built by my ex husband. he wad not a professional at all and one thing u said that really worried or two things is it was not leveled out when we first started even though I told him it needed to be and the framing is horrible due to the fact that it is only put together by screws. I have no clue where to start to correct these major problems without starting all over. I need alot help and advise.

I saw that you mention something about plans on your blog, but I didn't see the ones for the walls. I love the way you laid out this project. Could you guide me to where I might find this. Hey! Thanks for providing these videos and the blueprints. I'm actually in the process of making my own, roughly based on your plan. I've got the sub-floor complete, and I'm in the process of framing. I have a question though. How did you secure the framing to the subfloor? Did you just nail it all in place?

Looks good, but if this is going to be mobile wouldn't the glue and screw method give you more longevity in the structure? Even ring shank nails would allow more movement in your structure.

I noticed that there aren't any diagonal beams to help keep the house staple when driving it. is there a reason? all the other tiny builds I have seen they have put diagonal piece of wood in to help support the structure from twisting and moving around when driving.

Probably want to avoid trimmers and use Simpson metal brackets with SD structural screws. Saves lot's of weight.

Router with a cutoff bit works best for window and door openings.

what did u end up getting for a first floor ceiling height and a loft height? does your trailer have 4 inch drop axles? I'm really wanting 7 feet in height for the first floor therefore allowing standard sized upper cabinets, sinking the cut down exterior door to 78" and flush sash, I just can't seem to get my head around a 42" loft. that's even with a four inch drop axle.

Hey Ana, I was wondering where did you find the land to be able to do this? I have been looking for warehouses and factories to be able to build my tiny home, but no luck so far. Any tips?

Something just occurred to me and would like to ask, if you could go back and change 1 thing in the design what would you change? because I just notices you has a huge potential chance for massive storage in the floors the space between the trailer itself (lined with 1in thick plywood) and the top of the trailer wheel arch. And thus in turn you can easily fix in a slide out steps from within this gap in the floor space for steps to your door. Just curious :)

I have been doing some research on Wall sheathing and I was wondering for a trailer build did you gap the panels by 1/8 in or go with a tight fit?

I am Framing on 24 inch centers as well for my 32 ft 5th wheel tinyhouse. I also will be doing staggered horizontal sheathing but with 7/16 osb instead of 1/2 plywood. I do have a question though. Do you think it would be a good idea to add blocking to the horizontal sheathing seams? Or do you think that is overkill?

In the 7 minute to 7:40 range - Window and door cutouts with drill holes and a circular saw: I prefer to use a router with a flush-cut bit to cut out openings. Sharp corners need trimming, but the process for me is faster and (usually) cleaner than drilling holes & cutting with a circular saw. Is there any specific reason you use your method instead of the router method besides personal preference and habit?

Would it be OK to use metal brackets and screws to support a header instead of a jack stud? I'm trying to save weight.

Hi Ana, My Husband and I were wondering about the type of thermal insulation you've put in your tiny houses, your walls seems so thin !

when you build your header over the wheel well, do you just have it flush? Also, does that not cause a problem later, having your wall not follow the line of your floor joists? I hope that makes sense. I'm almost finished with my subfloor and I don't want to end up with gaps because I build over the wells.
