The only thing Ive ever found in a sediment trap is thread cutting oil from the the guy who put the pipe to begin with

The yellow gas line should come out the wall pointing down to a T striaght to the sediment trap right before it connects to the water heater. In other words it needs to be on the opposite side. !-[]

Once you tighten up gas pipe you should not go backwards make another full turn

I looked at 2022 cpc 1212.9 and effective date is jan 1 2023 . Sediment trap needs to be downstream of shut off valve and as close as practicle to the appliance. Im not following any mention of being upsream of the flex connector in the code? I think 2016 and 19 code requires the flex line upstream of trap and that should be winding down whenever jobs start requiring the 2022 code
