Tip: if you have a bad habit I.e. Running late, binge eating etc. Try not to identify yourself by that habit "I'm the kind of person who runs late to everything", instead say something like "I used to be the kind of person who ran late to everything" - even if it's aspirational. Otherwise you're at risk of accepting your bad habits and letting them own you. I learned that from PickUpLimes!

My habit in the morning was checking social media, first thing. It took me roughly about a month to change and now the habit is making a cup of tea in the morning and going for a walk. That time I used checking social media was taking such a huge chunk of my morning 🙄🙄 and I didn't even realise. I thought I was being productive!

Ade V I just prolonged the time that I went to check it. I first started putting my phone on the other side of the room and went about making a ☕️. Then a few days later I was like, I've got time to go for a walk. So I went for a stroll, and kept it up for a few days,. Don't get me wrong I broke the habit a few times, but when I glanced at my phone I was just like "you idiot, put it down! " Just doing small steps can replace the habit. :)

I improved my outlook on pretty much everything, by changing the words I use on a regular basis. Instead of "I have to..." I say "I want to" or "I'm going to." I made a whole list of negative statements I found myself making and flipped them into positive statements & I'm amazed at how effective it's been!

I just love videos about habit forming so much haha ! Thank you for your super useful tips ! The other day I watched a video from a youtuber and she said : what do you want to future self to be like ? For instance, if you want your future self to be a bookaholic, you need to start building the habit of reading regularly NOW. If you want your future self to practice the piano, start now. And I just love the idea of building your future self NOW.

In terms of listening to negative thoughts, sleep works wonders for me. If I haven't gotten enough sleep or it's the end of the day and I'm tired, my mind tends to go to a negative or harassing place. Proper sleep is key for me.

Great video! I started waking up early about a month ago and it's amazing for me. One of the things I did to make the habit stick was on the days when the bed was soooo warm and I did NOT want to get up, was to take ONE small step (in this case, very literally). "Just put your feet on the floor, Tawny". One small step in your habit forming routine will get the whole ball rolling. Wanting to run? The first step is to put your running gear on. Once it's on, why not go for that run? Just my thoughts on those hard days!

I seriously RESONATED with this video so hard! When you talked about habits becoming your identity, and how you haaate when people make assumptions about you I thought, "Hey! That's what I'm stuck in right now!" But I've let it dictate my decisions a little too much. Thinking I can't "do it". But I can and I decide what my identity is! Thanks babe!! xox

This is great advice! Thank you soo much. I've successfully broken the habit of being a people pleaser. It was the hardest habit to break and made the most difference in my life. I started by basically saying no to everything which is a big extreme I know! Lol and I don't know if it will help everyone. But I was so used to the knee jerk response of yes that this I think was helpful. I could always go back and change to a yes which allowed me freedom. Going from yes to no was very difficult and I almost never did it. Anyway the main way I rewarded myself was to tell my sisters or a friend about it after. Feeling their support made me feel better about the choice. Instant gratification. I think the reward part is the most important for our brains.

Hi Michel, I broke a few bad habits in the past 1,5 half and created new once. I used some of the techniques . you described. For example, I quit drinking alcohol. This was something I wanted to do for a while, and tried a few times, but failed several times, because i was relying only on my willpower and I also did not change my surroundings or environment, where everyone was drinking alcohol all the time (I live in Berlin, Germany, you have been there, you know what i am talking about...). So I listened to the speech of Anthony Robins about habits and identity, and applied that. I just decided that I am not a drinker, I am somebody who does not drink alcohol. I just started thinking this way about myself, and suddenly this (combined with my real desire to quit drinking for many healthy reasons), really worked. Another habit that I started is doing yoga every day. I tried that before as well, but it never worked, until I told myself that i am making a 90 days yoga challenge. I am very competitive, so when I had to actually track my progress and put a 'done' button on my phone every day for this, it really worked. After about 20 days I was so into it, that I did not have to force myself anymore. I just wanted to do yoga. After 30 days, I saw that my body was changing and I was gaining some serious lean muscles so it kept me motivated even more.

Starting new habits should be very similar to setting new goals. Find your "Deep Why" AKA The realest, deepest, most authentic reason as to why you want to accomplish this goal/habit.. Write it down, and develop a form of self accountability. (ie. how do you remind yourself of this goal/habit.. Putting in on a calendar you see everyday? Setting a reminder in your phone? Finding a friend with like minded goals and using a buddy system? It doesn't really matter, just find what works for you.) More importantly on the self accountability note, set a reward, which Michelle did mention, and set a repercussion. I was actually really inspired by both of your channels, and I'm in the process of writing my first three episodes, one of them is going to be about staying motivated and goal setting! So, thank you, and keep being awesome!

One of the things I have done that works very for me is whenever the negative thoughts enter my mind I respond to it in a positive way as if speaking with a negative person. I definitely dismiss negative thoughts well. I started that practice my not associating them as coming from myself in the first place. I named the critical voice Linda I'm pretty sure, and then I would tell Linda to shut up. I remember a night where I couldn't get the negative thoughts out of my head, so I called a help line and they helped me talk through why the thoughts were wrong, why I didn't believe them. Really it's just a habit of having faith in myself and being kind to myself. On days where I feel gross, I look myself in the mirror when I wake up and say hello. I'm instinctively far nicer to my friends than myself, so I treat mirror me like a friend and that gets the ball rolling.

I live by the path of most energy-efficiency, for example: if I do not respect a person or value their opinions their negative thoughts are not worth my energy, and if I do respect and value them then I may want to reflect on the things they are telling me I may need to work on. This extends to almost every single area

Just have a waterbottle next to you when you go to sleep. I find it super helpful whenever I'm thirsty and honestly don't want to walk downstairs to the kitchen to get myself something to drink.

Love your videos! Your skin is so beautiful, can you share what foundation you use? Any moisturizer you'd recommend? Thx!

Music is a little too loud. I don't speak English naturally but I understand almost everything and I think the music in this volume made your words sound less clear, for someone in my situation of course. Just a little tip. Anyway I loved this video, it's super complete. My habit is drinking a cup of green tee everyday
