Crazy thing about this is... I play for a semi pro league, and I'm that one guy on the team who knows he is better than everybody else on the team, but has trouble proving it when the lights come on. I'm also that 1 player that outworks everybody else on the team but it never translates to how I play on the court.. I realized that my FEAR, not confidence, is the reason for me being so passive on the court. Once I can figure out what exactly I'm afraid of, then I truly believe everything else will get out of the way
Facts bro fear is the biggest enemy. Can definitely relate when u know your the best but that fear cripples your game. If you look back in the past you’ll realize what was the point of fearing
Looks like your holding too much of an “image” for yourself, might be afraid that if you fail your hurting the team and that if you keep failing you’ll go downhill. Just go full send! Its a team sport so if you’re afraid know there’s 4 teammates looking out for you
@@637jackyy He said he’s less physically gifted and Giannis is 6’11 with a 8’0 wingspan and has the 2nd biggest hands in the league 40 inch vertical and is faster than Ben
38:50 Was a wake up call. Accept all challenges in life. I remember Drew Brees saying To Be an Ultimate Warrior means to fight hard no matter the circumstances.
When you defined outside sources as an unreliable source of confidence, that personified me. If I have a "good" game, I was happy, but a "bad" game sent me spiraling into sadness - even despair - and heaping on harsh judgement of not only my game, but chastising myself as a person. But now, you've given me a roadmap to creating my own code to play the game and to live my life based on a code of values I've created. Thank you so much from this 75-year-old baller still in love with the game!
Your word really touch me when you said "BE YOUR SELF" because everyone really denys me for who i am but when everyone rejected me i still am being myself even through all the pain of what they said but this talk really had me emotional cause i dont know i can't say it but coach thankyou for all the things that you said it really change me for who i am 💗💗💗💗🏀🏀🏀🏀
When asked about what my code is, I thought about what Ive always wanted, Freedom. At a point in my life without realizing it Id already developed this code to live by the mantra Mantra: “Ill do what I want” So Im going back to that. At that point I was the most confident Id ever been. My reason for choosing freedom is because its a big umbrella for things like Integrity, courage, etc. Just by wanting to do something, Ill do it Ive always hated being held down and being limited by others so thats where it developed from
U have...no idea how much this has helped me....I watched this a year back but it was now I fully understood wat this talk was about.... coach Tyler thank you so much....I know that's as much gratitude as I can give u but I'm forever thankful...u brightened up my perspective nd I'm goona make sure ur had work doesn't go in vein ❤
This shit is perfect timing ive been through it all so I understand every single freaking word you said, there are games I would miss every shot and the team will win, and there are games I make the first 2 buckets and then shit just falls apart and I don’t score for shit and lose, interestingly enough when I look at PG I think of him as an ordinary guy with an ordinary game that can have strides, I’ve been learning how to be more myself and not give a fuck, and this video is the continuation to that. THANK YOU!
Deeply needed this man I had tryouts yesterday I played at my best but was to hard on myself telling my self I suck but day 2 today and I’m try to use this to improve. Myself
Thanks so much guys for these videos. Now that quarantine is over, I have changed my mindset completely. Although I still recover from an injury for another 5 months, I am loving every moment I spent on the court, and with my teammates. I feel like I'm at home there, I feel so comfortable. I continue to work as hard as I can, without putting pressure on me that I want to play on a professional level, and enjoy myself in the moment. I don't compare myself in my mind to anybody, I just compete to beat myself and enjoy being there. I also shoot the ball better than ever before (I was always good at shooting), while not even being close to 100%. That's how comfortable I feel thanks to your advice. Thank you so much 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
watching this after having. 0-2 season despite me being in the gym more then anyone in my team i was scared to take a shot and never shot in the game when in reality i know i make them this day starts a new code within myself that will change me
Thanks bro tonight I played a shit game I had 0pts I got the ball taken from me whenever I drives to the basket at the moment I’m having mostly bad games but I’m training I’m playing like an NBA player it’s frustrating for me the player on the team that barely plays basketball scores more than me and I work 10x harder than him I’ve got to keep this video in mind to improve my confidence cause I’m games I put myself under pressure but in training I’m insane and I’m fine
Dang for me it is the complete opposite. Like if I'm going to a tryout 9 times out of 10 I play like complete crap and in real games were it matters I regularly get 20 point games and even some triple doubles
A real help for yourself is simple when you train you have to train against people better than you, you can train just by yourself you got to see it work on people better than you. Every time you catch up to that talent then you gotta raise the barrier.
This is a great video. I jus wanted to point out that positive self talk can increase confidence more than u think through something called cognitive dissonance, ur feelings will align with ur actions and vise versa because we feel mental discomfort when they don’t.
Thank you man. This video was a lil bit hard to understand at first, but this really helped me and this will definitely help me improve my self confidence. I might be only 16 and I struggle with alot of things like self confidence, discipline, honesty, following through promises, etc. But me personally nba or going overseas is a dream I’m definitely trying to chase and this video helped me alot. Once again thank you for the advice 🙏❤️
Thank you so much for this video. I have been trying to find a video like this that can truly help me step up my game. I feel like the one nain thing I've needed to become a better player is inner confidence. Again, you truly don't know how much this will help me
Thank you for this amazing video. Very well done brother. You’re a strong speaker and you put a lot of work into preparing this, I can tell. I’m sharing this with the high school basketball players I coach, as well as the staff at the yoga studio I work at. Amazing wisdom and deep perspectives coming from you that I’m excited to share with my community. Thank you!
You saved my life, been watching your videos and been listening to your podcast. These videos really made me change the way I look at life. Helped me more than you know. Thank you! I am blessed to be alive!
thank you this was a great message especially for basketball players that struggle with confidence in game. whenever i used to get into a actual game of basketball, i get nervous and play terrible
Thanks now I got 0 point 0 assist 0 rebound and 0 turnover at home the gym is close everywhere is close luckily I got hoop at home but still can’t be able to do any other things than shooting and layup
My code that I live by is my Biblical Christianity, wich holds, honor to authority, trust in God and yourself, helping your neighbor, discipline yourself from sin etc. So when he said how much confidence you have is based upon your code, for me that means for how well I am living my Christian life, big eye-opener.
It may help if you can term those more general terms into more specific measurements. For instance, how do you know in any given moment if you are honoring authority? What does that mean, in action form? Simon DeepGame
@@DeepGameBasketball Honoring Authority in action form would mean for me, would be respecting my coaches my teachers, when my coach tells me to do something I do it, I uplift my parents, essentially i trust them.
@@DeepGameBasketball For helping my neighbor, that would mean helping anyone I see if there is a need, no matter who they are, where they come from, or how they treat me. Having a continual spirit of helping and being there for others.
@@DeepGameBasketball And disciplining myself from sin would be, Knowing what sins that I struggle with, knowing wich sins I am tempted with daily. Then putting myself in the situation to not sin. And through integrity sticking and holding to my code.
@@DeepGameBasketball And respecting authority at any given moment would mean that inside myself I completely trust the people that God places over me, no matter who they are I trust them and respect them because God put them there.
Great lesson thank you! I've experienced both the roller coaster of outer confidence and the stability of inner confidence. I will be sharing and discussing this with my children.
i really liked how he put damian lillard as an example and now (apart from his abs injury) i really believe he is struggling with his confidence, in the end it can happen to even the best players in the world
I think i created the most powerful mantra that i could. This video helped me A LOT. I have a pretty though game tomorrow and i have to put those tips in practice since today. thank you so much for this, it is life changing. anyways, my mantra is: If they doubt, i do it but if they don't, its because they know i already did.
You may benefit from a mantra/statement which is more concise, and based more off of your own actions rather than others' perceptions. You can play around with the one you have and experiment with it, though. Simon DeepGame
@@DeepGameBasketball thank you Simon, i got you, i'll try a better one. An update about the game, i played a solid 30min , and was consistently, we won and i was having fun the whole game cause even if we lose and i play bad, i was still following the code i created watching this video. Thank you again, this content is elite.
Omg thank u so much I don't rlly have confidence issues but Injured my leg bad and after it Heald I was so scared to move it but now I'm more mobile with it like I used to be thank u
If we replace succes with courage, validation with integrity, would comparison be replaced with personal growth or does it also get exchanged d for integrity.
Hey Coach Taylor, great video. These are gems and this video probably took years of experience and failures and trials to get out and I appreciate you so much for that. Just one question, the three outer confidence "variables" are success, validation and comparison. So for success, it's having courage regardless of success or failure. For validation, it's always having that intergrity so you don't need validation from others because you know who you are. For comparison, what would the value be? Instead of always downing your self trust and saying you are the best at the court, knowing you may not be damages your self trust. So what would be a moral code to help make comparison an inner confidence thing?
The simple answer to all three of these is that we want our confidence to be internally generated, rather than externally. Of course, external confidence will come and go, but ideally it should really only be the final 1-2% if even contributing to your confidence at all. In the case of comparison, the answer is to just not compare at all =) Understanding that each person is different, will have different hurdles to overcome, and different innate strengths as a foundation. Seeing things that way, it's pretty much meaningless to compare your external world to others. Simon DeepGame
