Hi everyone, this video will show you how we built our awesome backyard hockey shooting pad.
Keep watching for a quick time lapse video of the build and check out the other videos in the series to get a more detailed explanation of each major phase of the project and an in depth review of the training materials used.
We're not professionals so this is a DIY project and I'm sure there are things we could have done better.
Hope this is helpful for your project.
Enjoy!
Coach Simon

Nice. A green carpet and another net and you could have a driving range and a batting cage.

I love the mesh walls. Metal wire mesh ? My family has 3 carpenters. This is better than my vision plan

This is Awesome, thanks for sharing. We are looking to do something similar in our backyard for our kids. Great Idea with the netting surround. I'd love to know where you got the net and what material did you use for the floor?
@coachsimon4472
@coachsimon4472 Год назад
Sorry for the very late reply, I purchased the net from: www.mybackyardicerink.com/. Here are the specs: - Type: N-225B (black) - Dimensions: - Piece 1 (sides and top) - 367 inches x 96 inches - Piece 2 (back) - 115 inches x 137 inches

Great video and design. Curious now it's almost a couple years in, did you end up adding a border to prevent pucks from sliding off?
@coachsimon4472
@coachsimon4472 Год назад
I would highly recommend a higher border than what we used. I would go 6" all-round.

Great work. What are the dimensions and any reasons why you chose that size? Already planning my own based on yours!

As a professional contractor, all I have to say is👍🏼…. My only recommendation is to make sure that the base has a small slope for water to runoff, and I wouldn’t be opposed to installing a waterproof membrane/ ice and water shield under the white floor
@coachsimon4472
@coachsimon4472 8 месяцев назад
Hi there, I'll certainly take that as a compliment. I am certainly NOT a professional but did quite a bit of research. You're right on the water shield. At some point, we had to cut off the expenses and for its purpose, there's only so much I was willing to invest. Thanks for the feedback and tip, totally agree.

Looks good. How much were you all in on materials for this build?

Hi Shan, sorry for the delay in responding. Total was ~$3K (50/50 building vs. training materials).

Just checking in to see how the shooting tiles have stood up over the last few years.

We eventually ended up getting rid of the pad to make room for a backyard renovation. I’m sure the tiles would have held up as long as they are cleaned and polished once or twice a year.

As fate would have it, the buyer of the shooting pad sent me a video of the pad still in use. No issues.

I ordered a custom net from www.mybackyardicerink.com/. Just give them your dimensions and they'll fabricate it. - Type: N-225B (black) - Dimensions: - Piece 1 (sides and top) - 367 inches x 96 inches - Piece 2 (back) - 115 inches x 137 inches

What do you guys do when it rains?
@coachsimon4472
@coachsimon4472 2 дня назад
Most of the rain glides off the pad (which is angled slightly specifically for drainage). Any remaining water is directed away from the pad using a squeegee from Home Depot. The rest dries off pretty quick.

what do you do in the winter

Simply brush off the snow and keep practicing. It was built to be four seasons.

@@coachsimon4472Very cool!…we live in Minnesota, and I have shooting tiles set up in our basement, but the space really isn’t that good. Will the shooting tiles handle the winter climate?
@liamsullivann
@liamsullivann Год назад
Can you skate on it?
@coachsimon4472
@coachsimon4472 Год назад
No. The tiles we installed are not synthetic ice. We could have opted for tiles to skate on but chose not to. They are more expensive and put more wear and tear on skate blades. You'll be sharpening skate blades much more often on synthetic ice.
@chrismcallister3495
@chrismcallister3495 Год назад
@@coachsimon4472 its only about 15% more wear than regular ice. its not as bad as people make it out to be. most people claim its impossible to skate on just after 1 session. this is wrong. if you skate 10 hours per sharpen, you can now skate 8 hours per sharpen for synthetic according to all company standards who sell synthetic ice.
@garretthoward2226
@garretthoward2226 8 месяцев назад
@@chrismcallister3495not to mention who wouldn’t want to be able to skate in the off season. Plus if people can afford synthetic then they are more than likely able to afford the sparx sharpener lol
