So to build in space you need everything AND the kitchen sink!
@azrobbins01

They added a new "Conduction Panel" that transfers heat between buildings in space. They can take liquid input if you want to take the heat away, but you can also just use them to transfer heat between buildings and the surrounding tiles without any coolant, if it were just attached to the surface of the planet, for example. No need for a liquid transfer medium anymore.

Oh interesting, I'll need to take a look at that. Thanks!

I was thinking about it when you were pumping the water up and laying down the drywall tiles. The new conduction panel transfers energy like a radiant pipe, but it works in a vacuum. Perfect for space biome. I think they’re also the same width as the blast shot cannons. Don’t quote me on that, but they feel perfect for each other nonetheless. I believe it must be made from steel and their is only a liquid pipe version of it.

@@MichaelSayer-sf7gu Wiki says it is 3 tiles wide and can be made of any refined metal. Meteor Blaster is 5 tiles wide.

I wish they would add more usable/buildable furniture like the chandeliers and couches, etc. to make nice recreation rooms for the dupes. Love the new series! No criticisms, only suggestions. Thanks for making these!
@azrobbins01
@azrobbins01 11 месяцев назад
You might mention that window tiles, gasses, and liquids reduce the amount of light that passes through them. This becomes a larger issue in spaced out where many of the planets have very little light that reaches them. So, building your solar panels underwater to protect them from the meteors won't help, for example.

They added the "Disconnect" tool so that you can disconnect pipes/wires/rails without the need to deconstruct them, for example when you extended the cooling loop to the other blaster. You can just cut the pipe without needing to deconstruct it. It looks like a pair of pliers at the far right of the tool bar.

Totally, I learned that after this video was filmed. I'm using it a lot more lately, thanks for pointing me toward it, it's very helpful!

They added a new "life support" dev building that provides heating/cooling, O2 production, and CO2 deletion. It makes setting up testing facilities a lot quicker. I think you must be playing on the hardest difficulty setting since the Great Hall, Nature Reserve, and Berry sludge had no effect on their stress levels. There is a mod called "Modify Difficulty Settings" that allows you to change the difficulty settings in the middle of the game. Not recommended for normal gameplay, but it makes it convenient if you started a playthrough with the wrong setting. Also, I know this series is not about Spaced Out, but you might mention that in the DLC, the meteor showers are usually not boiling hot regolith, so they are not as detrimental and do not pose a significant threat like they do in the base game. Also, they are not present on the home planet at all, so it makes getting started in space a lot easier.
@michaelsorensen7567
@michaelsorensen7567 11 месяцев назад
That alone might make me shell out for the DLC. I always run into trouble about when I'm looking at space and don't have solid enough understanding of game mechanics to properly stabilize, so adding tons of hot rock in space always makes me frustrated enough to give up. Lacking that, might actually make it

I will definitely make Spaced Out content, and some of the meteor scenarios in that are worthy of their own Let's Build videos, for sure.

You can also just put a weight plate under the output tile of the blastshot maker so that it turns itself off when it has a few tons of blastshot sitting on the ground. That way you do not overproduce or use up all your metals or waste duplicant labor needlessly.

I wanted to make a mini game out of the blasters. Build a few glass domes on the surface and defend them with blasters.

If you double up blastshooters on a "platform", would it still have coverage if you likewise nearly doubled the distance between platforms? I like to try and get one auto sweeper to deliver to multiple stations instead of 1:1, so trying to figure how to make it work without being expensive or swiss cheese defense 😝
@azrobbins01
@azrobbins01 11 месяцев назад
I am sure that having multiple cannons overlapping the sky would help, but there is still no guarantee that they would target different meteors. I seem to remember reading somewhere that they were specifically designed by the devs to not be 100% effective.

@azrobbins01
@azrobbins01 11 месяцев назад
@@michaelsorensen7567 The only time you will have trouble is when 2 or more meteors are in range of a single cannon at the same time. It can only target 1 of them so the other meteor gets through. I do not know how often this happens, but there is no way to reduce the chance to 0%. If you are looking for a 100% safe and maintenance free method, then you will need to use a C-miner setup. Adding 2 cannons overlapping means that instead of a 100% chance of a meteor getting through, you now have a 50% chance for one to get through. Adding more cannons just reduces your chances of a meteor getting through, but it will never be reduced to 0% chance since they all might still target the same meteor, even if it is very unlikely. As far as spacing, they cover 33x33 tiles. I think the default world is 256 tiles wide, so you would need 8 of them, or 16 if you wanted double coverage.
@Magnet_MD
@Magnet_MD 11 месяцев назад
You'd probably get a little better coverage that way. The spacing I'm using is by no means a scientific optimization, so I'd say it couldn't hurt to try! Also, to be clear, the blastshot is loaded straight into the meteor blaster via conveyor rail, so you don't need to rely on an auto sweeper to do that work.

I feel like you don't need to 'force' your dupes to build if you're showing us a build guide. You can use the sandbox elements and just get it set up in the proper steps...
@Magnet_MD
@Magnet_MD 10 месяцев назад
Yeah, this one was really clunky, but I have a better handle on how I'm gonna do these going forward. I do still want to build with dupes just to keep it grounded in how a real game will go, because so many builds I see are done in the sandbox without considering how dupes will actually do it and interact with it.

"If you can keep your water at 2c that would be perfect". Um yeah... Getting Polluted water to 2c isn't a big problem. Getting Water to 2c... You realize that is impossible for all but the most experienced players... right? An Aquatuner will freeze the water. Anything past an aquatuner is beyond even mid knowledge players. Counter flow heat exchange between gas and water... will fail, unless the gas is super cold, and the water is starting at less than 10c. The most feasible means being a steel door thermocouple between a Colder side and your 2c water tank. Which would take forever... depending on the temp of the starting water. You should really have recommended Polluted water, which is a superior coolant to water in every way except that if can offgas.
@brianzmek7272
@brianzmek7272 10 месяцев назад
Salt water and brine are similarly superior though they don't offgas
@Magnet_MD
@Magnet_MD 10 месяцев назад
I'm being purposefully vague only because the concept of cooling water warrants a potentially several-hour discussion. I'll cover it in detail in another video, but so many other setups will require some form of cooled liquid that I can't cover it each time. I could have used a more realistic example though, you're right.
