100% agree. The people who stick to the gym for years and years on end are not those who need to rely on motivation or dedication, it’s those who just simply love working out.
@BGeezy4sheezy
@BGeezy4sheezy 5 месяцев назад
It’s one of those things that the more you do it, the more fulfilling it becomes. I get insane amounts of pleasure and satisfaction while working out, but that’s because I’m in good condition. If don’t go to the gym for a week or two because of vacation or something, the idea of working out sounds horrible, and it’s mostly hard and unpleasant when I’m starting back up
@M-su4mh
@M-su4mh 5 месяцев назад
I agree to an extent. I love working out and have been consistently for about 9 years, but there are times where I've had to practice discipline to go because there are those periods where I don't feel like dialing in my diet and training because I get burnt out. It takes a lot of work and can be a mental battle if you're serious about making progress.

@paulg2059

He just uses swear words as filler words, as does Chris. For all the talk about self improvement and discipline, apparently it doesn’t apply to their public speaking skills. Using the same swear words over and over is the same thing as saying “um” and “uh” when you can’t think of what to say. These people should hold themselves to a higher standard if they are going to be professional public speakers. At least try to make up some new swear words or find better ways to describe intense and frustrating events. I am underwhelmed by their lack of discipline.

@@paulg2059I absolutely agree. I couldn't even finish this video. I wonder if he realizes speaking like this lowers his credibility with some people. It comes across so lowbrow. It certainly does take that extra motivation. As a personal trainer, when I was single it was so easy guaranteeing 5-6 days a week. Then life got in the way (school, kids, marriage, injuries) and it took me reaching my highest weight ever of 195 to be absolutely disappointed with what I let my body get to and find solutions to all those excuses. Now I have that "addiction" feeling again and can't imagine stopping even with all the new barriers to exercise.

My thoughts are, unless you are training for something in particular, a show or some sporting event, forget about numbers and what is optimal, treat the gym like a playground. Once you incorporate a sense of fun into your workout, you’ll finish each workout with a sense of excitement for the next workout and you’ll never have to worry about a lack of intensity. I find functional fitness is the best for this approach, although, towards the end of last year and all through January, I went back to good old fashioned bro splits and put on a good few kilos of lean muscle before I decided it was time to start running again.

How do you get from hating the gym to loving it? (1) don’t torture yourself. When you first get started lifting, don’t diet at the same time. Eat. Then once you’re in a routine add stuff on. But if you’re weak and hungry and miserable, you’re going to quit. (2) surround yourself with encouraging people. People who believe in you and support your goals. Not their goals. (3). Do what you like doing. Not what’s optimal. At least at first. Try new things. You never know what’s going to click with you. I love climbing. Wouldn’t have expected to. But it motivates me in the weight room because it makes back day just an absolute joy. If nothing else, on back day I’m in there to work. (4) have non-weight related goals, small victories (5) make it easy for yourself. Pick a gym that’s close. Keep things in the house that you can use when you can’t make it to the gym. Lower that barrier.

I take the addiction recovery approach: I am not in control, and even though I don't want to exercise and have thoughts telling me to quit, I listen to those negative thoughts, don't hide from them, but then trust in my higher power, in this case, the gym lol. You can do it with lots of stuff. Helps you ignore yourself and do things.

Personally it depends if you want it bad enough and if you have goals. If you just go just to go because it's a positive thing, I feel like it's easier to say no. Whereas I want to get aesthetic and use it to either become an online PT or just an influencer. I haven't had a single day where I didn't want to go workout for close to a year now. Even on days off, I have this urge just to go workout. I struggle on rest days not on workout days, opposite for me.

I've never liked working out, i still don't. I go 5 days a week to the gym nonetheless. What works for me is thinking about my future self, a guy who is more healthy, in better shape, who has more energy. The version i am working on to become. That idea makes me disciplined and go to the damn gym even when i have 0 motivation. Motivation isn't always available.
